Excellent! Lunch or dinner both are great!

Did I smell?  I sat at the bar (was famished) and the bartender ignored me. The bar wasn't busy -many empty seats. She swore at the tap when it ran out. Sometimes it's cute when a girl swears, but she couldn't pull it off.

I felt like I was a nuisance, not a customer. I left. The kid at the front desk was cool.  Now I'm in my rental trying to figure out where to eat...should stop typing now.

Went here for the first time last week..my experience described below..

    - Very nice atmosphere, liking the decor
    - Was greeted immediately with a smile and seated
    - Noticed there is a bar, which is always good
    - Menu looked delicious with a lot of options
    - Prices were good - not cheap, not overly priced
    - The waitresses were friendly but I would change their outfits. Too formal if you ask me...girls wearing ties a bit weird.
    - the food was good in taste, but it was plated poorly. I would work on the plating presentation.

All in all I will eat here again. Nice place, good food in downtown new bern.

Met a buddy here for a late lunch. The staff is well dressed, everything is clean and nice. The atmosphere was great, you could be in shorts and a t-shirt or a suit and you still fit in. The service was great, the wait staff very attentive but not intrusive. I will be back to this establishment.

Good selection, great atmosphere, and friendly staff but food quality did not impress. Would actually give 3-1/2 stars if I could but giving benefit of the doubt because I'm a picky eater.

In town for a business trip and had dinner at Morgans with my client. The menu was good and I was told the steaks are great. Despite being a bit sick and not that hungry, I went for the sirloin and was not disappointed! I started with the French onion soup which was piping hot and delicious. It wasn't too beefy or oniony or cheesey-just right. I had the daily veg as my side with the steak. They were simple steamed squash, not bad. The steak was absolutely delicious, tender, and cooked perfectly. My biggest rave about the place was the service. Our server was so attentive but didn't hover. When they served our food, she asked if I would cut into my steak to make sure it was cooked to my liking, which I appreciated.

    Recommend!

Ate here the first time we visited Historic New Bern. We loved the atmosphere and all the decorations. The chicken salad on a croissant was to die for. Very light and flavorful. My Dad tried a roastbeef sandwich and said it was good. Very pleasent place to enjoy lunch.

Nice ambiance.  It was New Years Eve and they were really busy but the staff was very friendly.  I ordered the lobster bisque and it was pretty good.  I also ordered the crab dip but didn't care too much for that.  I ordered the tilapia and shrimp as my main dish and it was ok.

I continue to be disappointed by the speed of service of places I have been recently. This is no exception.

Yet again I am in an near empty resturaunt and I am waiting for a simple salad. It has been 27 minutes since I ordered and nothing yet.

The salads came after 45 minutes and they were delicious and amazing.

No one does Lobster Bisque better! The applewood smoked bacon cheeseburger was so large and delicious, it took me 3 days to eat it. I guess I couldn't help filling up on the honey buttered croissants. This is now one of my favorite non chain eateries when I visit New Bern!

Had a late lunch on black Friday with 9 in our party.  They were busy,  but able to seat us at adjacent separate tables of 4 and 5 quickly.  I had a good Greek salad and some beer battered onion rings, which were thick and hot when served.  Others were very happy with chicken sandwiches or burgers of various kinds.  Service was excellent, we were impressed by the variety of folks that stopped by to refill drinks or deliver bread (croissants with a honey drizzle) yet they were well coordinated so there wasn't duplication or extras brought. When waitstaff communicates well customers like us  are happy.

I love love the pork chops and the crossiants are my fav too. Overall my experiences here have been good. Service has always been consistently good. I like the layout of the restaruant, has an open feel, but they have little rooms off the sides with about 5 or 6 tables each. I think it really divides up the noise and gives it a cosy feel. I've had better steaks, but this is a good restaraunt for New Bern.

Great for larger groups and they take reservations. The outdoor seating when the weather is nice, is really good. They even have a dog bowl with water if you have your dog with you walking downtown.

I had this dish below and it was quite scrumptious.

    Cajun Chicken Pasta
Fettuccine tossed with our home made alfredo sauce & topped with blackened chicken tenders. Served with a side salad.

The decor is very rustic and accommodating. Very nice. Parking sufficient. Service friendly and attentive. I thought a little pricier than I would have liked, but not extreme. Had a good wheat beer with the food, wife and I ate at the bar. The atmosphere is really very comfortable with the homey interior and friendly staff.

    No complaints at all.

I ordered the plate of "lightly breaded" scallops. You can choose a combination of seafood, but I was in the mood for scallops. The scallops were fully deep fat fried, and towards the end of eating the scallops, the breading was unbearably salty. I mistakenly did not ask for tartar sauce, and I should have. At first everything tasted fine, but I felt the scallops tasted increasingly dull as I kept eating. I also ordered a side of mashed potatoes, and they were also mundane. They were neither smooth nor creamy, which seemed to indicate lack of milk and butter; instead, they were pretty lumpy, garnished with some measly chopped chives. So far, I would give two stars.

However, attentive bartender service and tasty lobster bisque earn this place a third star. Maybe next time I should just get a bowl of the lobster bisque and choose some appetizer items instead of getting a big entree. A calm ambience in the restaurant will probably draw me back to this place.

Surprisingly good food tucked in an old brick warehouse (formerly a car shop?). The mussels appetizers is fit for a queen ... with a very large appetite. I couldn't even finish it as an entree. Portions are huge. The bread they serve before hand might be part of the culprit- too tasty and tempting right out of the oven to deny. Great for big groups and fun company, but a little too busy for a romantic spot.

Would be five stars for food and reasonability, but minus one star for service. It's a nice quaint joint in the middle of New Bern. We went for lunch and I had the blackened Chicken Pasta and a glass of their local lager, both of which were very good. The prices were also quite reasonable. However, the service was bad- we were asked if we wanted bread which was never brought. We waited for service, food, check- everything. Then as the guy was clearing the table he said "oh excuse I have to take their order first" put the dirty plates back down and went to another table....WTF? Get another job dude.

I was working in central/eastern NC for a few days and thought it'd be nice to travel over towards the coast to grab some seafood and a brew.  New Bern was an easy city to get to and Morgan's seemed like the perfect, well-reviewed place for me to get exactly what I was looking for.

I was dining alone so I thought sitting at the bar would be nice.  When I asked if it would be okay to move up to the bar rather than sitting at a high top the hostess said "okay" and pointed me in the direction of the bar and walked away.  I see what a few other reviewers mean when they say the hostesses "couldn't be bothered".

The bartender was nice enough but spent very little time "walking the line" to check on all of her customers; she seemed to focus more on one particular group of patrons much more than the rest of us sitting at the bar.  I was not impressed by her lack of interest in selling their house brews which is a big part of why I came to Morgan's or anything on their menu for that matter.  After finally getting some info on their beers I ordered the house nut brown ale and decided to have their crab cake dinner with lobster bisque; all were underwhelming to say the least.  The bisque  was described by other reviewers as having huge pieces of lump lobster in it...apparently they ran out when they got to making mine as no pieces of lobster were detected in my bisque.  The crab cakes came out as flavorless piles of crab and mush, and the beer was watery and unimpressive.  Honestly, the honey croissants and mashed potatoes were the only tasty items in my meal.

I would certainly not say this is the worst experience I've ever had in my travels, but between the lackluster food and the totally missing sense of urgency of the staff I will probably look for somewhere else to try when I'm back in the area.

I think a large part of the reason we went back to New Bern for our 2 year anniversary was because of our amazing meal & dining experience at Morgan's.  Sure the view from our waterfront room a block away was also a deciding factor, but Morgan's is almost reason enough to visit.   We ate 2 of our 3 meals that weekend here.  Saturday night, we both ordered steaks since they were so amazing our first visit.  They were just as amazing this time.  Sinfully delicious mac n cheese and warm croissants with caro syrup.  My mouth's watering just thinking about it.  Sunday for lunch, I had a french dip and tje hubby had a blue cheese burger (both served with fries).  Once again- perfect food and perfect service.  Great value, too.  And the bread pudding is to die for!  And I don't even like bread pudding!  This might be one of my top 5 favorite restaurants!  Definitely as good as it gets!

Our first stop at a recent swing through Ocracoke was Morgan's Tavern and Grill in New Bern. My wife and I both ordered fried flounder--I had a sandwich and my wife had fish and chips. Best fish sandwich I have ever had.  Nice restaurant, excellent service, friendly and excellent food. I recommend it.

Girlfriend and I visited Morgan's again this weekend.  She got herself a roast beef and cheese dip and I ordered the tavern sausage and red pepper fettuccine (uploaded a picture of it).  As always they delivered their famous honey croissants, which again were amazing.  My girlfriend really enjoyed her sandwich, she allowed me a bite of it and I too thought it was pretty good.  She chose their homemade chips as a side item and we both agreed that they were good.  My sausage and red pepper dish was very nice, and the portion was large as well.  I took half of it home and it served me as dinner for two nights!  The food was very well prepared on this visit, as is normally.  My only complaint is with the service.  It was not bad service, just the fact that it felt like we had three or four different waiters/waitresses.  I don't know what kind of program they're running there, but after we placed our drink order, two more people came by and asked if we had.  Same went with our meal, we placed our order and then two more people came by and asked if we were ready to order.  We finished our meal, and the same applied, first person stops by and asks if we left room for dessert, shortly there after another, then another.  It would be nice for them to coordinate with one another on the status of a table, so it is less annoying.  We even had two people stop by and ask if we needed boxes for our to gos.  All in all though, it was another pleasant experience at Morgan's.

Went there on a date night and it had a rustic romantic feel. The food came out fast and delicious. The dessert choices i had heard rave reviews about...so we ordered two for fun. The S'mores and the bread pudding. I am not.a fan of rains and such in my bread pudding but after taking it all out it was still very good. The S'mores were messy and fun to eat. Brought them home and the kids loved them.

Hubs and I stopped in New Bern on the way home from the coast this past weekend and were looking for something casual but somewhere with wait service to dine and break up the trip a bit. We found Morgan's Tavern and were super excited since neither of us had ever been here!

Morgan's looks like it is set in an old warehouse and has a huge skylight that let a lot of light into a room that would normally be really dark. There were exposed wooden beams and a huge open area for seating.  We were sat and immediately greeted by a friendly but not overzealous server. She told us about the Morgan's beers and we both settled on the Brown Ale which was REALLY good!

Hubs had the burger and I had the cheesesteak. This may sound boring but we were both extremely surprised with the quality of these meals. Hubs said that his burger was top quality meat and was cooked to perfection. My cheesesteak actually has cut up pieces of steak, cooked to my liking at medium rare with cheese, onions and mushrooms. Both of our meals came with cracked pepper fries- O.M.G.! These babies were so freaking good, my mouth is watering as I am typing this!

Great place to have a beer and a great quality sandwich or burger. From the looks of the menu, you can class a meal up or go casual with a fancy dining experience too. The menu had american fare to italian fare.

When in New Bern, put this on your dining list!

Why not 5 stars? All was great until I used their restroom. Yuck! Clean it up, Morgan's and next time you'll get 5 stars!

(3.50 stars)  We were here for lunch on the suggestion of locals who recommended the meatloaf sandwich.  Frankly, I was skeptical; how good can a meatloaf sandwich be?  Well, four diners all ate the same thing, with the same verdict . . . absolutely amazing.  I don't know what they do to make meatloaf taste this good.

Me and a couple friends came here for dinner after a sour day, found this place on Yelp and decided to try it. I was expecting nothing more than a sports bar when I read the name, but we were all hungry and hoping for something simple, but what we got was much more than that.

The place is really well set up, the lights are just bright enough to light up the place, but not enough to blind you, the service was friendly, fast and quite enjoyable, the menu was full of choices that all sounded good, and not to mention the bar with a whole assortment of alcohol including micro-brew. I ordered the lasagna, and the crab dip appatizer. You could almost taste how fresh they were, which is rare in some restaurants.

Though the food was a little pricey, the quality of service, food, and the place in general made it all worth while. I recommend this place for anything from hanging out with old friends, to bringing your lover for a date.

Service was decent for lunch, the fried shrimp were tasty.  Those fries aren't so special.  Lobster bisque was a bit thick and heavy on the cream, couldn't make it through a whole bowl.  They offered plenty of $6.99 and $7.99 specials, which made the whole thing reasonable.

It was a nice lunch, but nothing I'm real excited about.

I'm in town for work and this place was highly recommended from a few townies. I ordered the carmelized salmon with baked mac n cheese, the soup of the day (seafood bisque with gruyere? i think? it was red and tomatoey). I ordered all that for take out, but they never called me after an hour. I ended up just walking in to see if my food had happened to be ready, and it was sitting on the bar (not sure for how long). Anyways, the bartender/waitstaff/hostesses were super nice and friendly, and the price was average (total of $26). The salmon was cold and a bit dry for my tastes, and I think the mac had mozarella? on it. Not sure if that's typical for North Carolina, but I thought it was kind of weird. The cheesecake however....DELISH :) If I come back to town for work again, I'd probably come back...but I probably wouldn't order the carmelized salmon again.

When I lived in New Bern I had the pleasure of dining here a couple of times. It's pub food, with good beers and a fun atmosphere. New Bern at times can lack a bit in the nightlife department, but Morgan's never disappointed!

My wife and I recently went to this restaurant not knowing what to expect.  First off, one of the reasons I really liked it from the beginning is that it is kind of like a hole in the wall place, but once we entered and went inside, it's like the restaurant just blew up.  It is so much larger inside than I expected.  It's one of those restaurants where if you wanted to dress up nice and take your wife out you can and it is also one of those places that you can just wear jeans and a button-up.  I chose the latter.  Haha.  Also, the vibe was just something we have not experienced yet in New Bern.  Since we are originally from Atlanta, we are used to up-beat nice restaurants, and this one really did it for us.

Now to the food.  Can you say AMAZING?  My wife had the mussels and lobster bisque soup and it was so incredible.  Everything tasted so fresh and they actually give you a lot of mussels.  I had the mushroom bacon burger and it literally was so delicious that I literally was thinking of ordering another one LOL.  Also, a lot of restaurants bring out bread and butter, but this place brought out cresants (spelling?) with honey on top.  Wow.  I've never had that and it was so tasty!  The service was so great and very friendly.  That's what really helped us have such a good time is because of the staff.

Finally, the prices.  My wife and I ordered soup, appetizer, two large entrees, 2 vodka drinks and 2 margarita's.  So I was thinking, maybe like 75 dollars or more?  The check came out and it was only 50 bucks.  I was blown away.  On top of everything being amazing, the price really made us happy.  We will definitely be going back again and again!

I stopped in to Morgan's with a colleague for dinner while in New Bern on business.  She had been here but this was my first time, do I didn't really know what to expect.  Overall, I was pretty impressed with every facet.

The restaurant is very cool looking, you feel like you're eating in the middle of a small town.  Some of the dining rooms are sectioned off to look like olde time shoppes.  Our waitress was very nice, typical southern charm.  Although the steaks were calling my name, I ordered the blackened bleu burger with black pepper fries.  The burger was fresh ground beef, not some pre-formed frozen patty.  The bun was an actual roll, and the fries were outstanding (dusted in a black pepper seasoning mix).  Just enough bleu cheese to add flavor but not so much that it was overpowering.

The prices are crazy low (both of us ate for $20 including tip), but that may just be a product of me living in Chicago.  The only things that prevent this from being a 5-star are I wish the menu were a little more diverse and there were a handful of things that they were out of.  Outside of that, kudos to Morgan's.

    Another Birthday lunch outing.
I ordered the "Shrimp Basket" again. It's suposed to come with 15 breaded shrimp, but I got 22!! And a FULL plate of Cracked pepper frys.YUM-O! Husband, the one celebrating his birthday got the grilled sausage and red peppers on angel hair pasta with a side salad, The son got the chicken Alfredo. All dishes were luncheon price of $6.49. All three plates were Tasty, hot and HUGE! Enough for a second meal. The only reason Morgans Tavern lost a star this time from me was because the waiter was slower than some of the others there but he was still very friendly. A complimentary dessert was given to the husband in honor of his day.He chose the key lime pie and said it was "Just o.k". The place was pretty crowded, but there was no wait. as usual. They showed us straight to a table.

From bite one, Morgans has been symbolic to me. Symbolic second date, symbolic second meal as the "official Significant Other (S.O)" with the current S.O, and a symbolic last meal with my first real girl friend in North Carolina before she moved to Yuma, Arizona.

Located in picturesque, sleepily romantic, historic New Bern, I've eaten at Morgan's a number of times (see above lol).

The S.O swears by the croissants with drizzled honey, but you have to ask for them and he highly recommends that you do no matter the time of day or meal.

My latest trip there I ordered the burger (I was craving meat and bready carbs) mheh, and yes a mistake on my part (ordering a burger at such a nice restaurant) - I made him promise me he'd stop me next time.

My S.O had the flat iron steak and liked it - it was pretty tasty and lean with not too much marbling. On other trips I got the ahi - they didn't cook, well sear it properly so I would not order again.  And the S.O got the steak of some sort (he always gets the steak of some sort), and he is never disappointed.

I LOVE the crab dip! The mussels are good, I just wish they were cooked in a creamier sauce, but oh well they are good,  I still ate the lion share (and there are a lot of them) of them when we ordered them our second date.

I'd still recommend Morgans as the go to nice restaurant in New Bern any day.

Actually Jim, John was spot on with every visit I've ever made to Morgans. This place is simply not as great as you make it out to be and staff is usually too aloof for their own good. The best thing about this place is the croissants.

i went to morgan's consistently for the past several years and it is one of the best places to eat in New Bern.  all the food my friends and i have tried is outstanding (with the exception of the steak sandwich which was kind of mediocre).  the pricing is good for the quality and quantity of food you would get.

the wait staff is pretty much on top of things, but from time to time you might get someone that is not as attentive.  the bartenders are always friendly and succinct in serving us, but it could be because i have been a regular for a while.

i would definitely recommend this restaurant; it is somewhere i take any friends that are visiting for any i am entertaining for work.

Morgan's entrance involves walking down a pretty long, but well decorated hallway.  The restaurant is very nice inside.  At the end of the hallway is a desk where the hostesses will not greet you.  They always seem to be focusing on something in a book on the desk.  The guest almost always has to get their attention.  The hostesses are not rude, but they are far from friendly.
The bar has an "around the world club." You get a card with beers from around the world.  Each time you finish a beer, they sign it off as complete. Once you fill up the card, you get your name on the wall.  The idea is neat, but the beer is expensive and the bartenders always seen bothered to serve you.
If you get a table, you will find most of the food to be delicious.  The scallop burger is descent, but I suspect they use the cheap buns from the grocery store.  If you order a dinner entree, croissants are served  while you wait.  They are amazing!
On our most recent visit, my wife ordered the Hawaiian BBQ Chicken hoping to get the croissants, followed by a Caesar salad, and eventually her entree.  It would be the normal sequence of events for a restaurant.  After a very long wait, our waiter informed us that our meals were about ready, but they were still "figuring out this Caesar Salad thing."   Sure enough, the salads arrived with our dinners and there were no croissants.  Not to mention, my wife received the Hawaiian BBQ Chicken sandwich instead of the dinner.  The waiter proceeded to make jokes about the mistake and tell us the only difference is corn vs a bun.  He said he would bring out some corn if that would make her happy. It was late in the evening now and we were both starving.  Neither of us wanted to wait for another meal to come, so she ate the sandwich.  The chicken was small and overcooked.  The bacon tasted like precooked stuff you buy in a box.  The waiter continued to apologize and make jokes, talking to us as if we were teenagers.
The manager was receptive to our criticism and offered us a gift card.  She faulted the waiter for not telling her about the mistake.  We will probably visit Morgan's again just to use the gift card.  I would say in the past year we have been to Morgan's 10 times.  Most of those have been unpleasant experiences normally a result of the hostesses, waiter/waitresses, and bartenders.
