Flew into Seattle as I was supposed to do a job there and another in Pasco, so the drive was worth it for the better airline points. Seattle job got cancelled so I drove to Pasco. Saw the sign for Mountain High on the drive over, but it wasn't time for lunch.
Another job came up in Selah, but had the weekend to play so I went back to Seattle to see my cousin and his fiance. Bingo! - lunch time when I came near Mountain High so I stopped.
Exactly what I envisioned - small old building that looks perfectly at home among the pine trees, small crumbling parking area, and a half dozen picnic tables out back.
I got the Mt. Adams minus the relish and mayo and the onion rings. I'm really giving 1 extra star for the location, quaint interior and outdoor seating, because the burger really wasn't that special. The onion rings were pretty good, but far from the best I've had. The milkshake selection did look awesome though.
All in all, If it works out I"ll stop back by on the drive back to Seattle (getting a shake this time - screw the diet).
Was looking for a quick place to stop and have lunch and found this place on Yelp so decided to give it a try. I went thru the Drive thru because it was packed inside. I ordered the Mt Stuart burger (meh), small fries (good), fry sauce (not mixed together...) and a  peanut butter shake (yummy!).  Overall, just ok for the $13 it cost.
Review Source:It's down the street from the Shell gas station. Love the food. Perfect summer eating with benches outside. I recommend the deep fried zucchini chips, raspberry iced tea, and the Mt. Adams burger complete with bacon and cheese. Yummy!!! So good especially after a swim at the cold lake nearby.
Review Source:Good food. Friendly service. Horrible horrible coffee. I had the fish and chips and while they were rather heavily battered for my taste, over all they were pretty good. Â However the coffee was unthinkably bad. Â If I'm stuck in traffic in that neck of the woods I'll probably stop there again but only for the food.
Review Source:Seriously, so freaking good! I don't know what it is but their meat and buns are awesome. If anyone knows what an Eagans burger is like, these are better. I had the Volcano burger with jalapenos and onions and my husband had the one with Canadian bacon. We will be stopping by every time to the mountain that's for sure. I originally found the place by yelping restaurants near Lake Easton Campground and saw it had pretty good ratings. When we pulled into town we gave it a try and sure glad we did, thanks for not letting us down. The only tiny thing I didn't like was the fry-sauce.
Review Source:This place is GREAT. Instead of getting a burger like a normal human, I got the fish and chips, which were wonderful! Mom got the grilled chicken sammie and dad got the Mount Stuart burger. Yum all around! The fries were really well seasoned and not too fat. The onion rings were ahhmazing. We shared a plain vanilla shake, too, which was delish. SO SO thick. Overall a great place, and if we're in the area again, I'm sure we'll swing by.
Review Source:My wife and I were on our way back from a weekend trip in Seattle. We were hungry and saw a sign for this place while we were on our way through the pass. Upon seeing it, I wasn't expecting much. We were the only ones there at first and it looked a little run down, but I was really craving a burger. As we waited, more people began showing up. the dining room filled up fast and the drive through line grew pretty long. My expectations began to rise
I got the Mt. Stuart burger. It was fantastic. I really never would have expected to love the combination of 1000 island dressing and BBQ sauce as much as I did. It was so good! I also love the fact that their fry sauce is a combination of ketchup and tartar sauce, in stead of the usual ketchup and mayo.
After having the delicious burger, I had to try a shake. I got an oreo and toasted marshmallow shake. Holy crap! It was the best shake ever! At a small diner like this, I would have expected all of the shakes to be flavored with syrup and artificial flavors. Not the case here. I knew i would get oreos in my shake, but i didn't think they would throw and ass-ton of marshmallows in as well. It made it that much better.
There is no questions, I will be stopping here every time I go to Seattle from now on.
De-flipping-liciousness.
Came in a little after 1 PM. Â Place looks like it is inside a former house, which gives it a quirky feel. Â You can do drive through or eat inside (seating is limited). Â They also have some picnic tables outside if the weather is nice enough.
Patties are a bit thin, so you may want to get one of the burgers with two patties, but a single patty was fine with me. Â French fries were hot, nicely seasoned, and perfectly sized. Â And my chocolate shake was so good! Â Overall, so so good.
My only complaint is how completely full I felt a half hour later when I continued on my drive. Â It was so good I ate (way way) more than I should have!
Also, they have chicken sandwiches, chicken strips, fish, and veggie burgers. Â So don't feel like you have to be a red-meater to enjoy the establishment.
If you enjoy burgers and you are by exit 70 on I-90, it is a MUST that you stop by Mountain High Burgers.
For years Mtn High has been my tradition that I always go to when I'm coming back from camping, the gorge, etc. Â It is the perfect end to a fun weekend. Â So you can imagine how excited I was when I actually went camping nearby there the other weekend. Â Those burgers were ALL I talked about.
All of my friends who had to deal with my "no seriously I can't wait for Sunday burgers" banter came to Mtn High with me. Â And you know what? Â Glowing reviews. Â DUH.
Mt Adams burger + small fries + fry sauce + root beer (pretty much the only time I drink soda) = demolished in five minutes every time.
I agree with those who say this is a solid burger place.  Nothing overly fancy, no special beef, a couple of "signature" burgers (bacon cheese, jalepeño, etc with a theme name).  The real treat is the selection of milkshakes.  I had the black cherry milkshake and it was GREAT!  The base soft serve they use is top notch so just about anything that you do to it comes out very well.
When I pass through this part of WA again, I'll stop for a burger and a shake.
I've been here a couple times during our time helping out with Courage Classic over in Easton near Cle Elum. Kind of a blessing to find this place out in the boonies (since I definitely don't live in the area) when you want something to eat.
Try to beat the crowds (yes there can be huge crowds waiting to order). Otherwise you'll be waiting for your food in the heat for quite some time.
I don't recommend ordering mushrooms on your burger, because they're from a jar. yuck. Thinly sliced, and not fresh or natural at all. The bun was cold and not at all toasted, a major burger joint no-no in my book.
But do order the deep fried zucchini chips. Breaded, crispy, & piping hot. Delicious. If your hankering for a milkshake, make sure you stir thoroughly. I ordered a Hazelnut Shake (they used the bottled syrups for coffee), and I sipped from the bottom, SOOOO not a good idea.
Anytime is burger time when it comes to Mt. High. Â I CAN NOT drive over the pass without stopping here. Â Everything on the menu is awesome and it's really hard to resist getting a shake to top it all off even though I know I can only fit one or 2 sips of it before I explode.
Onion Rings are O-MAZING.
I leave you with 2 words of wisdom, friends:
FRY SAUCE
I found this place thanks to fellow Yelpers and was thankful for all the reviews.
Good service and a great, tasty burger. The fries needed some salt and pepper but were hot and fresh. Good fry sauce. Excellent tomatoes, especially for this time of year.
They closed not long after I got there which was early afternoon - so you may want to call ahead, especially during winter hours, to see if they are open.
They had a ton of milkshake flavors but were not serving them the day I was there.
Order: Mt. Rainier Burger, Fries, and a drink
Burger Layout: Bun, Mayo, Relish, Lettuce, Onion, Bacon, Cheese, Burger, Bacon, Cheese, Burger, Mayo, Bun
Cost: Just under $10
Fries: Standard with a dash of seasoning salt
Knowing that I was going to be in Cle Elum, I did some research and found this place as a potential stop. Upon checking into my hotel, I asked the man where the best place to get a burger in the area is. His eyes got a sparkle in them, he got real excited, and I knew that this was a question for which he had a truly passionate answer. He told me to drive a couple miles back on the freeway and get myself a Mountain High Hamburger. He waxed poetic about them for a few more minutes, I dropped my bag off, and headed off.
At quaint house a few minutes off Highway 90 and a friendly gal tending to the place - I was the only one there as it approached closing time. All their burgers are named after mountains, so I went ahead and picked up a Mt. Rainier Burger (what normally qualifies as a double deluxe or something similar). 10 minutes later I took my burger to one of the outside picnic tables and dove in.
The burger is good, but didn't get me nearly as excited as the man at the hotel. Griddled patties with nicely melted cheese and thin slices of bacon on top of each. They were a slight bit heavy handed with the mayo (putting it on both sides of the bun), but not too bad. The one thing to really take note of is the size of the patties... those babies are thin. While I'm not 100% certain, it tasted a while lot like the fries came directly out of the freezer bag and then got hit with some seasoning salt on the way out of the fryer.
My advice would be to skip the fries and pick up a second burger. Additionally, if you've got some extra time on your hands, head to Roslyn instead to hit up the Cruise In.
3/5
We actually plan our trips to the coast based on Mountain High Burgers. We must hit it between 11 and 1, or else the trip is a failure. One daughter has been in Europe for months and months and months, and the one thing she looks forward to is stopping by this restaurant on her way home. That's passion.
I don't know why we first hit this place. We don't tend to frequent obscure burger joints in the middle of nowhere, but I'm ever so glad we did. It's become a family tradition, and from the amount of people that are there whenever we pass by, we're not alone in our singular burger passion.
And it's amusing! The posters on the wall about snowmobiling are great. The advertisements run the gamut (did they ever find those planes that went down in the area?). Â And the very best entertainment is watching semis and motorhomes who all pull in within minutes of one another trying to find someplace to park, blocking each others' egress, and crashing into one another trying to fit a square semi into a round hole. No! Seriously! Oh, the humanity! And the young pine trees getting smashed to smithereens in the process!
All that, and great food, too. Life is good.
Great food...no. Â The food here is three stars, quality wise. Â I would compare the taste to Burgermaster.
I give an extra star because Mountain High is a great value. Â A half-pound cheeseburger is only five dollars. Â The shakes and fries are generous and cheap.
Unpretentious. Â Just plain good.
This place is AWESOME!!!  I was headed home to the west side of the mountains, when I saw their sign sticking out of the trees..so I thought "they have to be good it they are making out here in the middle of now where."  Now I know why!!!  Their  burgers are outstanding!!  The buns are warm all the way through, the meat was juicy, the toppings fresh.  The FRIES-outstanding, and a small order was WAY more than enough..I felt bad that I couldn't finish them.  I did not have a shake, but since my visit I have mentioned this place to quite a few people and the ones that have been there said the shakes are to die for.  It's funny, no one has ever told me about this place, but when I mention it, they say "yeah, you mean you've never been there-they have the best burgers around!!"  One guy even told me it the only burger we will eat..and seeing how all of these opinions come from Seattle area people, that's quite a statement. Â
I can harldy wait for my next trip over to the East side of the state,...I now where I will be stopping for sure!!!!
If you ever find yourself 12 miles east of the Snoqualmie summit, and feel in the mood for some mountain-man grub, you must go here.
OK, so there's no squirrel or venison on the menu, but there is a nice alpine theme going on. All of the burgers are named after mountains of the northwest--Mt. Baker, Mt. St. Helens, you get the idea--and most come with either double patties or bacon. The patties are a little weenie, so don't be afraid to double up. They toast the bun, which is crucial to a burger's success, if you ask me, and don't sneer at you when you ask them to hold the relish or mayo.
Then, there's the fries. Thick-cut but still crispy, with just the lightest dusting of seasoned salt. Kind of remind me of Red Robin's, except better! Not bottomless, but they give you a big bag of them. Just don't forget to ask for fry sauce or tartar sauce, whatever suits your fancy. They do charge a quarter for a little tub of it, but it's so worth it!
I've never tried them, but they do have a huge selection of milkshake flavors, and something similar to Dairy Queen's Blizzard (I think they called it an Avalanche?) And the mini corn dogs on the menu also looked tempting.
-1 star for using styrofoam cups.
The service is pretty quick; if they're slow they'll bring your order out to your table but mostly it's self-serve. While you wait, they have an excellent bulletin board full of amusing notices from the locals. (To the person who lost their parrot recently: I hope you are reunited once again!)
The perfect way to end a camping weekend at nearby Lake Easton State Park.
I'm no great campfire cook, so the extent of what I'm able to make is limited to what I can stab on a stick and roast over a fire or things served out of a can. Â OK, maybe I'm being a little too harsh on my culinary skills in the rough, but the point I'm making, is after a couple days of my camp cooking, anything different is welcomed. Â Thus, Mountain High Hamburgers fit the bill perfectly. Â
After three days campin' we were heading home and we all decided to try MHH. Â MHH is a small burger restaurant located off exit 70 off I-90. Â The building is an A-frame. Â
Our crew had two double burgers, one with bacon, and one had a hotdog and the other the chicken strips. Â All were satisfied by the meals, including the fries (served ala carte, not included with burger purchases, like a "burger basket" at places like Orange King in Seattle's U-District). Â The other menu offerings include a six item kids' menu, chicken sandwiches, fish sandwiches and fish-n-chips, vegi burgers (garden or black bean), mini chicken corn dogs, and a few other items.
My fries were super hot (they make everything to order, so there is a bit of a wait involved) and the burger was just about as sloppy (in a good way) as I like it. Â The red relish was tasty (I usually don't relish relish). Â If I had to compare my burger to a place in the Seattle area, I'd say it compared favorably with Burgermaster or even what's offered at the Corral Drive-In located in Long Beach, WA.
If you aren't stuffed by their burgers, they do offer shakes and sundaes too. Â
Parking there is interesting... their actual lot is small but there is plenty of spill over parking nearby. Â Also, the seating indoors is small, so if you get the order to go, you can dine at a picnic table outside... I think there are about six located in two areas east and west of their building.
They do take call-in orders at their phone number... so you could call ahead from the campsite. Â 509-656-3037
