I came here for lunch today because I was in town for work. Â I ordered the Jack's Daniel's grilled salmon, which was very fresh but could've been charred a bit more. Â The Jack Daniel's glaze was tasty, but maybe a bit too sweet. Â It was served with white rice and asparagus. Â It should've been served with brown rice instead of white (or an altogether more interesting grain). Â The asparagus was very tender, but it should have been steamed or cooked in olive oil instead of butter. Â The waitress was friendly and efficient.
Review Source:Mr D's was not what I expected. I read some reviews before before making a family related trip to Howell with my wife and kids recently and they seemed like good reviews. However, the food was very unsatisfying, and it took a very long time to get to my table.
I Suggest that you try Clearys Pub, or if you are feeling a little bit fancy try Diamonds Steakhouse.Either way you are guaranteed a fun night.
We ate in town for 5 nights and Mr. B's was probably the worst food I had during my trip to Howell.
We love driving up to Mr. B's for ribs from Dexter. Â The ribs are exactly how we like them - plenty of them and fall-off-the bone good, with a nice sauce. We haven't found another place that can compare. Â The steak fries are good too. The place isn't fancy, which is fine with us...it is after all called Mr. B's Rustic Tavern. Can't vouch for other offerings except the sandwiches were good years ago.
Review Source:This place  is located in the heart of downtown Howell. It's in an old renovated building with high ceilings and  creaky hardwood floors. The upstairs houses a dance studio. The movements of which can be heard overhead. The front of the building faces onto the four corners of mainstreet.  From this window area you can watch vehicle and pedestrian traffic scurry along.
A good selection of draft and bottle beers are offered. I ordered the Dark Horse Raspberry Ale brewed out of Marshall, Michigan. Â I found it light bodied with fruity notes and a smooth finish.
The menu is a varied  affair. Choices range from prime rib to burgers, pizza and ribs. We were both pleased with the appetizer combo plate.  I found my order of sliders to be quite good. My S. O. was happy with his cheeseburger and onion rings.
My only complaint about this experience was the wait/bus staff being too quick to clear the table. Anytime I have drink still in my glass, I intend to drink it. This staff was so quick that a glass with a good two gulps left disappeared in a flash before I could stop it. The same almost occurred with my food plate. But I'm a fast learner and was ready with a block. Â So indeed I had a nice lunch with those leftovers the following day.
Word to the staff, ASK before removing anything from the table.
All in all it's a nice spot to grab a bite and brew.
Service was good to very good.
I ordered the half slab of ribs and paid the extra $1 for the "jack sauce". Â The ribs were quite dry and the jack sauce was not good at all. Â I'm by no means a BBQ sauce snob, I like a wide variety of sauces but the jack sauce was just not good. Â Ribs were solidly into the not-good category, not quite crossing into bad.
Wife had the 3 sliders and said they were quite good and well cooked.
The french fries/steak fries were quite good though. Â Well seasoned, crunchy on the outside, fluffy on the inside. Â Actually made me think about how rare good french fries are.
Not crossed off my list, but I won't be ordering the ribs again.
I really like the atmosphere at Mr. B's, especially when it's nice enough to sit outside and sample some of their decent beer selection. Â The service, however, is typically pretty slow and unattentive, which should deter anyone wanting a quick bite to eat. Â It's certainly not the best food in Howell, by any means, but a nice place to hang out and have some bar food with some drinks while playing pool or watching a game.
Review Source:It's probably the most satisfying all around place to eat downtown.  The food is good and portion size generous nothing fancy or too out of the ordinary. That being said it's likely that every member of the family can find something that they will enjoy.  Mr. B's does a good job running specials and doing up some special  seasonal drinks.  It's on the main 4 corners in the center of town.  That makes it a great place to people watch from the out door seating during warm weather. Parking is fair on all but the busiest days. Service is always very friendly and attentive. The drinks don't disappoint and pricing typical.
