Since I've never been to East Tawas before, I'm relying on my coworkers to point me to places with yummy food. So, they brought me to Mr. Jack'ss for my first meal ever in East Tawas. Mr. Jack'ss is a roomy, split level sports bar. It has a pool table right by the entrance, which I was happy to see. I must say, I was impressed with their booze selection, even though I didn't get to drink during lunch since I was working, it's still good for future reference for after work ;-) The staff was friendly and we were served very promptly. One of the specials was a chicken quesadilla for $6.99 that comes with guac and sour cream. The food came out very quickly which I was also pleased about. It was a very filling and tasty quesadilla. It had just the right amount of cheese, chicken, and veggies. The tortilla was cooked to perfection. It had a slight crunch, and it was golden brown and delicious. The guac was a little bland but whatever. Somehow I got a feeling the guac wasn't exactly the star of the show and it wouldn't make a lot of sense to judge the taste of the dish factoring the guac heavily into the evaluation. I am surprised and impressed that the menu offers quite an awesome salad selection, beyond the standard House salad or Caesar salad. I'm pretty sure I'll be getting a salad next time I go there. It certainly didn't have the best food ever, but I have no qualms putting that on the lunch or after work rotation.

The pizza and perch are great. A nice selection of  beer, cocktails and a few good wines. The staff is friendly and the service is good.  Well worth the stop..

Not bad, far from great. The mushrooms WERE great, very large and lightly battered.  I love clams, not easy to find decent ones in the midwest.  These tasted pretty good, but had SO much breading I couldn't tell where the clams started. Salad was decent, fresh. I was not as impressed with the sweet potato fries as others - they were so skinny and crinkle cut, there was little potato flavor, no middle, all hard fried outside, if thta makes sense. I'd try them again, but would rather take the safe bet and get the awesome perch at Augie's.

"I was in town on business and saw the reviews on Yelp for this place. I have celiac disease (gluten free diet) and saw they had salads so thought I would try this. I had a very good fresh spring green salad with fresh perfectly ripened pear...very good! Service was fast and friendly".  I would go back!

Tasty shrimp patty with optional goat cheese, similar to a burger, good coleslaw.  Kids had pizza and mac n cheese, hubs had whitefish, locally caught.  Ok selection of beers on tap.   Nice outside dining on the corner of downtown East Tawas. I asked if our dog could sit with us, the server said although dogs are not allowed, a lot of people hook the leash to the iron fence next to the sidewalk where we sat.  That was nice.

The food was decent.  I had the 1/2 pound burger. A little pricey. The experience outside was interesting.  While we sat there a just a wind come up and blew one of the umbrella over at an empty table.  Everything went flying.  Glad we were upwind of that disaster.

Food was good but service was awful. They messed my order up and refused to discount it because I didn't complain immediately, even though what was on my bill was not what I received. Manager wouldn't even tell me face to face, made the waitress do it after she already promised a discount. Wait staff was slower than molasses moving uphill on a cold day. Waitress took our drink order twice because she forgot she had taken it the first time. Tables outside were filthy, doubt they ever clean them. Food was OK but not worth the hassle. Find another place to eat. Or eat there as soon as you can, because with service like this, they won't be around long.

The sweet potato fries are a religious experience. Too bad I live 7 hours away!

I, like David P, would like to rate it a 3.5 so I figure our two ratings will equal out to what we would like...
For a hot summer day when you need a refreshing drink - it is totally satisfactory.  They have a nice patio and there are not a lot of choices in the metropolis that is Tawas.  But the fact that there aren't a lot of choices I think may be why Mr Jack'ss has such a high rating - not that it is GREAT, but the choice is this bar or...yeah I don't know what.  Mulligan's is closed so...??
The appetizers are what you would expect and are prompt.
Trying to modify the menu (I know, I know) can be difficult.  Not all toppings/sauces/items that come on things are listed on the menu.  Most recently I ordered the veggie sandwich, and having previous experience with modifying their menu I asked for the ingredients of the roll and what toppings were on the sandwich, modified it to omit the eggs/dairy/blah-blah however when it arrived it had "special mayo sauce" on it.  The waitress tried to be pleasant about the situation, suggesting that I just scrape the mayo topping off - a task that I refused but I am pretty sure the kitchen staff completed without issue.  My mom got a shrimp dish that she decided was flavorless.  I didn't eat the sandwich and not only was it on the bill, and the manager never came to apologize.  Because I often modify the menu so I can eat, I can say historically either the cook/chef comes out to ensure understanding prior to preparation or the manager swings by (or both) - not mandatory but nice especially when there is an issue that arises.
So yeah, not horrid but not awesome.

This is actually a 3.5 star rating, but for some reason the powers that be do not allow such nuance. Why Yelp? Why? But we had a good enough time that I feel comfortable with 4 stars.

It was a hot summer day, and we needed a nice patio with some shade and a few cold beers. Jack'ss fit the bill. We took our two monkeys with us and had a very enjoyable time. The menu is typical bar fare with burgers, sandwiches, salads and wraps. Good beer selection and very friendly service.

I had a burger ordered cooked medium, and it was actually cooked medium. Wife had a taco salad, and she seemed to enjoy it. The elder monkey had mac-n-cheese, and it disappeared. The younger monkey slept most of the time in his stroller, and that was delightful. We had a couple of Two Hearted Ales, and they were cold and delicious.

All in all, a nice time for the family. The place was full and everyone appeared to be having a good time. We'll certainly be back next year when we visit the area for the summer.

I have to say, I was a little leery about trying out this newly opened restaurant.  It looked like it might have good bar food though and I was drawn in by the outdoor seating.

I was surprised to see that the menu had some really nice choices!  It was not ALL typical bar food.  I spotted a mixed green dinner salad with goat cheese, pears and homemade candied pecans.  Against my better judgement, I ordered it.  I would normally not order any kind of salad at a bar.  When it arrived, it looked wonderful and tasted wonderful!!   The pecans were sweet with a little bit of spice and the dressing was homemade!!  That was an unexpected surprise as well!!

The service was equally as great.  The waitress was efficient and we did not have to wait too long for our food to arrive.  I will be back here again for sure!
