I was excited to be in Kona for Pride weekend. A large group of us showed up to My Bar to watch the drag show.
I had a great time watching the performances by the wonderful drag queens. The performers were all great and had moves, even the really big guys!
The drinks are cheap and they let you run a tab, which is very convenient. The bar aesthetically is nothing special, but completely fine, and the bartenders are fast and nice.
I'm not much of a bar goer these days, but it's nice to go to a gay friendly place and avoid those dumb male tourists who may try to pick me up like they do Huggos on the Rocks! Stay away dudes, I'm gay! Happy Pride everyone!
First of all this place is "Gay friendly"
The owner (also the main bartender) doesn't want to label her place so she doesn't want it known as a "Gay bar" That being said.
My Bar is the local dance club where most of the local Drag queens hang out. It has a dance floor, pool tables, darts, and even a few of those video touch screen do hickys. the drinks are reasonable. Don't go in expecting BIG city standard dance club. there will be no smoke machine, no laser lights, just a bunch of locals trying to have a good time. it has every thing you need for a night out.. copious amounts of cheap booze, R&B music and a bunch of rowdy locals. It's not much, but it's the gay dance scene for this side of the island. Masks has some dancing, but a small dance floor. there's lots of room here, but populated by drag queens, Lesbians, and straight locals. no snacks, but on the right fri or sat night it can get packed.
