This place is located near our family cabin, but I had only stopped in once or twice in the past. Â I went twice over the weekend, as I was at the lake by myself.
I'd give it 3.5 starts if I had that option.
Let me start by saying the staff was attentive and friendly. Â That is always huge points in my book. Â The beer selection is limited, but about what I would expect in NW Wisconsin. They did have a couple of good micro brew ales on tap.
I went for lunch one day, and had the brisket sandwich. It was tasty, but unremarkable. About on par with typical pub grub. Â The wild rice soup I ordered with it was very good.
The next night I went for an early dinner. Â They have $1 tacos on Mondays, and they were pretty good. Â I had a couple of them and then I ordered some wings. Â The wings were a disappointment. Â They were swimming is sauce rather than tossed in it, and it made them kind of soggy and greasy. Â The sauce was good (typical buff sauce) so if they would crisp the wings more, and then just toss them, they would probably be pretty good.
Overall, I would say it is pretty standard pub fare. Â The menu selections are unique in some cases, with WI variations on the standard bar food. Â The atmosphere and staff were great. Â The trivia quiz on Monday was fun. I inadvertently got "drafted" by a couple of locals for their team because I happened to be sitting at that corner of the bar. Â We ended up winning.
So...
Staff and vibe get a high four, but to me the food was just a three.
This place has a special everyday of the week- except Saturday. Every beverage is served with an over-flowing basket of popcorn-which is amazing.
There is also a full menu with fabulous bar options. I recommend the Nezzmo. Its an open-faced sandwich that tastes like pizza! And there's plenty of it to share. You can have the side upgraded to fried cheese curds... which we of course indulged in. :)
They also have those video hunt games that I have a secret obsession for.
