Nicky's Quicky? More like Joey's Slowy! We went in, having heard great things about this place. The floors were DISGUSTING! I ordered my meal and the man working there acted like I was an idiot. My brother and sister ordered burgers and the man said that there might not be enough thawed meat, but luckily they had enough. We asked for Diet Cokes and neither the ice machine or the Diet Coke were working. We sat there waiting for our food for over half an hour, with some fat-ass coming over every few minutes to tell us that our food was on its way. Finally, our food came. My $12 gyro was decent, but I've had better for much less. I also got a dressing-less. How the hell do you have a salad without any fucking dressing? The burgers had parsley in them. After we finished, that fat-ass came back to ask if we wanted dessert, which we declined since we figured it would take a long while. Definitely not coming back anytime soon!!!!!
Review Source:If you can't eat here you may as well just go on a water fast. Â I'm a falafel addict, I eat it all over, and the falafel I had at Nicky's tonight was *scrumptious.* Â And homemade latkes! Â And taboulie made with quinoa! Â And the friendliest staff! Â It's a short drive from Vail or any of the other local towns and well worth it. Â Great portions for the price. Â Can't wait to get back.
Oh and the dolmas are fabulous. Â Not all greasy and bland like so many. Â Fresh, lemony, stuffed with rice. Â Yum.
We stopped in here for a quick post-hike lunch with our three (very young) kids. We were impressed with the extensive menu for such a tiny place. The people working were super friendly & helpful. We ordered the grilled cheese stack & hotdog for our older kids (which, while tasty, are a little overpriced in our opinions). My husband and I each had a half quickie and split a Greek salad and six falafel. All our food was absolutely delicious! Â We enjoyed the sandwich a lot and were happy they topped it with a lot of good-quality salad. The falafel were delish, and we loved the sauces. Â The Greek salad was good, too, we were just wishing for a few more olives in it. :). Although the building could definitely use some improvements, it's a very quaint place to grab a bite to eat. We would absolutely eat here again!
Review Source:Went this summer it was 4 stars, there was my wife and kids and we all found something, I had the falafel, son had the grilled cheese stack (kids menu is very limited, if at all), Good food, not great service, seemed to be putting him off. Â Parking is in Minturn and good luck if it's already busy in town.
Second time this fall, I went to go for some take out and was told they were out of cheese for the kids grilled cheese stack? The menu only has 4 kids items and 3 were out or "coming soon" as the sign read?
Again the falafel was OK but a little bitter tasting (time to change the fry oil), my wife liked her Gyro, which I tasted and was good! The hummus was a little bland, have had better.
I have on many occasions also have had Nicky's at the local weekend markets, which was mostly a positive experience and once had to wait 45 minutes for my falafel as "the fry oil has to heat up", I love Mediterranean food but feel like it's sometimes a burden! Will still go back and hope for some improvements?
The first thing I thought was I am not sure we should eat here. Â The place was filthy! Â We were hungry so we decided to deal with our situation. Â We placed our order for 2 people and sat down to wait for our food. Â One of our meals came after about 15 minutes which surprised us since there was no one in the shop at that point but us. Â Anyway, we waited and waited for the second meal to come. Â Turns out the kids running this place were so darn stoned (hard not to tell) Â they forgot to make the second meal. OK. Â Fine. Â
They bring me my meal and low and behold the gyro meat is charred. Â I was unaware you can burn gyro meat but after seeing my meal I guess you can. Â There were only 2 pieces of meat on the pita so I could not discard the burned lamb since I would have had nothing left to eat!
One of the kids working a counter had a girlfriend visiting him on the job. Â The crummy thing is that the girl was talking about how a mutual friend just committed suicide and every other word out of her mouth was the F-bomb. Â Others diners in the restaurant at this point were NOT happy especially those with kids.
I suggest trying a different restaurant in town.
Good food, filling, local, affordable for the area. Plus, it gets you down to Min'urn which, if you don't know, is a quaint little town just a stone's throw from the glitz and glam of Vail and the Beav. My crew hit this place fairly regularly for lunch.
**EDIT** Â My last visit was less than optimal. Seemed to be skimpy on the meat and they were OUT OF FETA. I mean, come ON! You can't be out of fucking FETA when you serve gyros...
Doesn't impress me much. I had lunch from them at the Denver Federal Center Farmers' Market. It's pricy for a small portion that's not very filling. The Quickie is much better than the Crispie as the latter is too sour for my taste. One thing I do like about is that their food is always served hot and fresh.
Review Source:We stopped in while hauling our way to NM. Â I gotta say: one of the best surprises in a long time. Service was excellent; the counter person chased me across the street (coffee fix) to tell me i had ordered an item that may have traces of gluten. Â That's service. Aside from that, the gyros platter was awesome. Â Meat well-seasoned & thinly sliced. Hummus had a great balance of garlic & lemon. Tzaziki sauce was perfect, slightly sweet & minty. Â What a treat.
Review Source:This place was a great find. Â The food was fantastic and the prices were a relief after the pricey restaurants in Vail. Â Unfortunately, I have to eat gluten-free, and this place made it very easy. Â After being frustrated with the lack of options in Vail, my husband and walked in to this place and saw they had a wide selection of gluten-free options (as well as soy-free, and vegetarian/vegan). Â All in all, this was the best Greek food I've had in a long time.
Review Source:Snow storm. No food in the house.
Thankfully NIcky's delivers! It took about an hour but it was amazing. The gyros are.... WOW. The meat is so tender, lots of vegetables and the pita is soft. Other than that, ordered 4 cans of san pellegrinos, 2 bottles of coke (it comes in the glass bottles like the old times), a side of hummus and a side of tomatoes with feta. All were excellent. Thank you for delivering in the snow storm!
Delicious!
Ok, ok, more is needed. Â The staff has always been friendly. Â They deliver, if need be. Â However, if they bring the food to you, you'll never get to spy the other tasty creations hanging out in the deli case. Â I suggest a full quickie with a few dolma's on the side. Â You'll definitely leave satisfied.
Great Gyro's! And they deliver! Last time I was in here a couple weeks ago I got the Extra Meatie with extra olives for myself and the Full Quickie for my wife, that's our "usual" and it's always delicious. I get the veggie sometimes which is the same as the quickie, but made with sliced tofu instead of the gyro meat. I like it a lot and probably get it about every third time or so I go in or get it delivered. The tofu is almost crispy and made in the same way they do their traditional gyro's. I tried the "crispie" gyro recently and liked it as well. It's basically like the others, but made with falafel and was really good especially when you want to change things up a little.. Excellent!
Review Source:Note: This review is for the Denver City Park farmer's market stand, not the brick-and-mortar location. Fabtastic gyros and our favorite Greek food in Denver. The hubby has actually made us bike to the farmer's market just to stop at Nicky's. Unlike some not-to-be-mentioned so-called Greek places around D-town that start with the letter "P", Nicky's takes pride in the quality of their sandwiches. No raw onions and thick slabs of tomatoes covered in light sour cream here. Instead expect baby greens, grilled onions, grilled meat with spices and fresh olives with a sauce that actually has flavor. Soooo tasty.
Last summer the fellow running the stand told us that Nicky's is thinking about putting in a permanent Denver location. If this is true, I'm all for it. That way I wouldn't have to wait all winter before my next Nicky's fix.
This place is a great reprieve from pricey Vail, and just a very short drive down the 24.
The staff is friendly and the food is very yummy. My husband and I went there twice while in the area on vacation. The menu is about 5 different pitas or so, but they can do everything as a salad. They have vegetarian options as well. I tried the tofu one and the gyro one, both as salads - both great although I would suggest asking for the dressing on the side because they are VERY generous with that. I also had hummus on the side, which was pretty good. My husband also tried the gyro and the matzo ball soup which he found delicious.
