A great local's scene at the North Fork. Â The food is always good here and seriously, we would be fucked if it wasn't, because there really aren't any other options. Â Denny serves up the most epic eggplant parm I have ever had!!! Â The food is always so fresh. Â And I must say, the salad is ALWAYS excellent as well (and I am picky) - fresh local greens - never bitter - not iceberg - and delicious homemade dressing.
Review Source:What a surprise ...
we were on a short visit to Covelo ... and .. can't say that there's a big choice of restaurants .. basically .. there's just 2 !
We have decided to get there as the menu looked interesting.
The inside of the restaurant looks like a big garage on a yard sale ... but it's made on purpose and it's fun.
The service was very good.
Now the food .. there was 2 specials ... that we wanted to try ...
Appetizers, Fresh morels (secret caught from the chef) with baked camembert ... super mega yummie ...
and ... mussels in white wine sauce ... I must admit that being born in the biggest mussel growing area in France ... I'm usually very picky with mussels ... and it was a REAL delight .. finger licking good ... !
The we had pasta .. they were fresh and tasty ... our friends usually get the pizza and said they never had any deception ...
Oh .. should I mention that most of the food was organic ... and the price .. very reasonable !
The only bad thing about this restaurant ... it's only open 3 days a week :-( .... so .. if you're stuck in Covelo .. you have to wait the end of the week to enjoy their food !
But again .. the food was sooooo good and so fresh ... I'm still drooling thinking of the appetizers !
This is the only place to eat in town and thank god it's good. The ambiance is funky-garage-sale and service can be sluggish if you are there during the rush (my advice is to arrive early), but the food is fresh, well-seasoned and tasty. Denny, the chef, makes his own bread fresh every day that they serve warm in a basket. His chicken dish and the fresh clams in garlic white wine sauce are always excellent.
If this place was anywhere else I'd probably give them a slightly-less-stellar review, but the fact that it's in Covelo (which is in the middle of god-forsaken-nowhere) makes me very grateful.
This is a great restaurant located on Highway 162 in downtown Covelo. The owner and chef Denny Lopian does a remarkable job in serving fabulous food. Serving mostly Italian cuisine, but great seafood, soups and steaks. The restaurant is made up of two buildings. The building on the left is the dining room and the building on the right houses there pizza business and doubles for a place to have live entertainment. The restaurant is only open four days a week, Wednesday through Saturday but it is without a doubt the very best place to eat in Covelo and I highly recommend it.
Review Source:North Fork Cafe serves terrific food, has a great selection of mostly local (Mendocino/Sonoma) wines (generously poured), and ALL of the servers are both friendly and professional. The menu offers a wide range of choices from delicious pizzas to prime rib (the best you will find anywhere!) to duck a l'orange to fabulous italian dishes. Very often there is  a new dish creation consisting of a fresh seafood catch smothered in one of Denny's incredible sauces. Mussels marinara is frequently on the menu. The salad course is always fresh made from locally grown produce and bathed in a piquant italian vinaigrette. The dressing, made from Denny's secret recipe, is truly unique. DON'T MISS THIS RESTAURANT.
AND if you ever wish to cater a local event...Denny and crew will exceed expectations. I recently hosted a party for 27..and asked Denny if he could "bar-b-cue some rib eye steaks". Going above and beyond...Denny arrived with plates, glasses, flatware and proceeded to serve us: Smoked brined duck infused with wine; mussels marinara; fresh roasted peppers and tomatos on skewers; remarkable potato salad; and topped it off with fresh apple crisp for desert. In addition, Denny and Sam (his assistant) washed all the dishes, cleaned up the kitchen, and left us all happy and grateful for responsive, unpretentious, quietly competent service. I could go on......
this place is like cheers, everyone know your name... or they will after a couple of visits.
This place can be great. Great food, but watch out for the waitresses. If they are in a bad mood you may end up spending more time than you original planed in the place waiting. They know they are the best place in town and dont care if you have to wait.
I got a little food poisoning there once too... but i have eaten there a ton of times.
If you ever venture out to this little spot of heaven there are not many dining choices outside of Keith's Family Grocery store. Covelo only has 1 real restaurant, the North Fork, and luckily Denny serves up some great food. Don't let the looks from the outside prevent you from checking it out.
As you walk in the right side of the room looks like a renovated school room, the left side doesn't. Good local wine selection, we had a Henly. The food is unpretentious - simple salads with amazing homemade vinagrette, spinach manicotti, salads, pizzas, and suprises like duck a'lorange. The specials that night  were Prime Rib, and Sole.
Check out the Buckhorn across the street for a post meal drink in an authentic, real western bar.
