I think this just may be a "NUDIE" bar! I was out with some colleagues tonight and after we'd finished at one place, they all suggested we move on to the bar down the street. I asked what bar, and my friend, Bob pointed with his thumb in a westardly direction. Oneonta, being a small town, I was sure I would find these guys after having payed my bill at the place we were, which used to be the Old Spanish Tavern: http://www.yelp.com/biz/….
I walked out, could not find them so I continued in the direction that Bob had pointed. There, a couple blocks down, I found where they were; the Novelty Lounge. I'd looked in every venue in that direction for my friends and finally found them; what I also found, were half-nekkid wimmen dancing on the bar!
Holy crap! The first one was a girl who had a beer gut about as big as mine and was way over-madeup in the eye shadow department. Not too appealing. Second girl up was the server who'd brought us our drinks when we'd first come in and she was pretty darned good looking! I liked her! We left when a woman who weighed about as much as I do but was about a foot shorter than I took the stage/bar.
I felt awful about enjoying the second server's performance due to me being opposed to the objectification of women and their bodies. I felt better about it though when I thought about what my colleagues and I do up on a stage, contorting our own bodies around musical instruments to titillate the members of our own audiences, bringing them pleasure for a fee via what we've been trained to do.
I've never in my life been in a place like this before though, but tonight my eyes were opened. When the good looking waitress was performing, it was great - when the others were, I really wanted to leave. Sorry, ladies, but this is a profession where you may want to be taking care of yourselves in order to secure a prosperous following.
All in all, I usually stray from joints such as this but when going with the crowd, I follow. Now I know why I stray; my instinct is totally correct! Probably won't be returning to the Novelty anytime soon, now that I know what it is, but if you like that kind of stuff, it just may ring your bells in the right kind of manner. To each his own...
