Updating because I stopped in here tonight purely out of desperation. Â This plaza was our final stop of a night filled with hopping from bar to bar. Â Our original destination was Flight, which was closed. Â Hungry and not wanting to drive any further, we opted to hit up O'Briens for some grub. I ordered the BANGERS AND MASH HOAGIE and La CHICA got the potato skins. Â The sammich was plenty big for two people to split. Â Plus, it came with 700 lbs. of fries. Â Delicious, thick-cut, steak fries! Â The sausage was nice and mild and tossed in a bun with various types of bell peppers, onions and provolone cheese. Â We took down the sammich and skins with a $6 pitcher of Bud Select.
Review Source:I was at O'briens (Carrollwood) twice in the past 3 weeks. I will NOT be going back. Almost all of the bartenders smoke cigars. The problem is they pick it up and play with it rolling their fingers through their saliva on the end of the cigar. They then set it down and make your drink. They repeat this process ALL night long. I also observed the wait staff coming out to smoke. When they are done smoking they go inside and take your order and serve your food and NEVER wash their hands. Again I observed this through out the night. I'm waiting for the night that they appear on "DIRTY DINING". If you like your food and drinks tasting like cigars and cigarettes this place is for you. I also had a corned beef sandwich there and it was terrible. If you want a good corned beef sandwich go to Jason's Deli.
Review Source:My old college haunt outgrew itself and moved to this location. A bit of it's charm lost, it now resembles a large Wal-Mart or Disney of "Irish" bars now. Still, the live music is a great time, and the same ole staff is somewhat reassuring. Still feels like home seeing familiar faces, but kinda miss the old shit hole it used to be. At least I have my memories!
Review Source:My husband and I are longtime frequenters of O'Briens, both in their old location and the current one. The new location is definitely less of a dive bar than the old and the food is much better. They always had good pub grub before, but now the food really is good. Love their wings and burgers, and who doesn't love Guinness gravy with their fries?! A lot of regulars and the average age is a bit older, but they have good drink specials and a really nice outdoor area.
Review Source:Great crowd, cheap beers and not douchey. Most of the staff has been around for years and you can always count on a consistent experience here. This is a great place for live music or game days. Personally this is hands down the best place for St. Patrick's Day. They feature Irish dancers, bagpipes (maybe not traditionally Irish but still cool) and Irish bands (plus green beer). You will never have to fight to get to the bar and there are plenty of areas to sit down and eat/drink.
Review Source:This is my second year coming to this place for St. Patrick's Day. We were finally lucky enough to have it on a weekend day.
This place is HUGE. There are a ton if Irish places in Tampa and this place has to be the best place for a St. Patrick's day celebration. Not only do they have a huge inside but they have a huge tent on the outside for live music. I don't live close to this bar but every time I've been here I've always had a good time.
So, I don't live in Carrollwood, however, O'briens is my go to spot for St. Patrick's Day. Â There is a ton of space and they always have great Irish entertainment on this day.
On any other random night, OB's is still a great place to grab a beer with friends in a laid back environment. Â I used to be somewhat of a regular here, but have stopped going as much. Â O'briens will always have a special place in my heart. Â If you are looking for an authentic Irish pub with lots of space with a laid back daytime environment or a rowdy night time environment, look no more!
Great little Irish pub located North on Dale Mabry, between Ehrlich and Northdale Blvd. You'll find O'Briens tucked into a corner of the same shopping center as Grille One Sixteen and Sushi Alive.
O'Briens has been around for nearly 20 years, but they're relatively new to this location in northern Carrollwood. They have terrific live bands, and also a wide range of TVs to cover most every sporting event. This is the home of the Tampa Gator Club and also the Pittsburgh Steelers cheering section, so it can get quite noisy on game days.
The food is your basic pub grub with an Irish twist - Fish n' Chips, Shepherd's Pie, Bangers & Mash, along with the usual appetizers, soups, salads, burgers, and sandwiches.
O'Briens has a good selection of beers on tap as well as exports, and a lot of the crowd seems content to sit back and sip at their drinks while they yell at the quarterbacks on TV.
Fun place, but not as good as their former South Tampa location.
What's with all the old people on friday and saturday nights? Â Brandon location is much younger crowd... I've never seen so many sailboat shirts and plad shirts in 1 evening, and so many drunk old lady's.... wtf?
Definitely not a james joyce, which is sad, Since i could walk home from this place :/
I was here to watch a Gator Game on October 6. O'Briens hosts the Tampa Gator Club so there are a lot of Gators around and everyone was having a good time. The draft beer is cheap and the food is good. We tried the following and it was all great...sweet potato fries, wet wings, blue cheese chips, regular fries, and the pub club. They have plenty of televisions and the volume was loud but not too loud. If it is not a game day I still think this is a great place to grab a very casual drink. They have a large outside area which will be nice this winter. I would give it a try.
Review Source:Started going here after their move last year up to their current spot on Dale Mabry. Â It turned into a trendy Irish Sports Pub. Â Local home for the Pittsburgh Steelers fanatics so, if the Steelers are playing, don't try to get in there. It is packed. Â Has some good export beers. Â The food I've had here has been pretty decent. Â Expect quality similar to Chili's. Â We've had the fries and gravy a couple of times for an appetizer. Â That was pretty good. Â And we've stuck with the fish and chips and Shepherd's Pie for the main meal.
Review Source:As a South Tampanian, I made the trek north to meet up with some friends at O'Briens new location. After hearing stories of the old place, and the one in Brandon, I was a little disappointed.
I was expecting a less-douchey (and more sleepy) version of MacDintons', but was greeted by something between a Chili's and a Beef O Brady's.
Regardless of my initial expectations, the disappointments unfortunately kept coming. Our server wasn't horrible, but it got frustrating very quickly when it was borderline impossible to order a beer or something off the menu. The only reason it wasn't horrible was because she seemed nice enough - but was either was a new server, or didn't give a hoot about receiving a good tip.
Good for families, yes. Good for people who want to party and be loud, not so much...
You will find me at O'Briens Irish Pub every Friday night that I can possibly attend. Â It is a friendly, family-run pub that has been around for a little over a decade. Â Fridays and Saturdays have entertaining live bands (and possibly other nights too... but I have never attended on any other night). Â Two of my favorite bands are Mugshots and the Dave Perri band. Â If you don't feel like sitting inside and listening to the music, there is a tiki bar outside. Â The ambiance is incredibly chill. Â So if you're sick of the obnoxious club scene and want a pub to hang at with your friends, this is the place to go.
