This review is for the bar only - NOT the beach bar:
If you're looking for a quiet, relaxing place to have a beer after a day on the beach, then this is NOT your place. Â But, if you're looking to hear some live music in a divey bar with cheap, disgusting beer (ONLY during the happy hour specials), then this is the place for you!
I like to go out! Â I like dirty, loud music festivals! Â I like to party! Â But all that being said, I'm just not a fan of the OD. Â The bands are annoying coverbands playing the same-old same-old, the clientele is usually fall-over-drunk 21 year olds (God, I sound old), and the overall atmosphere is just not appealing to me. Â But, I came here last weekend for the no shower happy hour, which, I hate to admit, is pretty ingenious. Â Secret Service was jamming away and they got the crowd going (I still don't like them for the record).
If I were in Sea Isle, a rare occurrence, I would stop by again for the no shower happy hour; otherwise, I'm going to avoid this place in the future. Â More like a frat party than an actual bar.
Hands down one of the best bars/clubs in South Jersey. If your not 21 you will.... get arrested. Great atmosphere, amazing cover bands (Go Go Gadget/Lost in Paris) ,and always has the best drink specials. Can not even be compared to surrounding dumps such as La Costa or Kixx. I don't think La Costa has ever seen a cleaning solution. Everyone who talks badly on the OD has either been thrown out for being a jerk or wasn't able to get laid. People constantly hate on the doormen. If you treat them with some respect they will treat you like gold. If you aren't able to have the time of your life at The Ocean Drive you should consider locking yourself in a closet for the rest of your life.
Review Source:I guess it depends on what you're expecting -- I heard a lot of hype before I went, but was a little underwhelmed when I arrived for "No Shower Happy Hour" in the late afternoon. Â With that said, after a couple of $1.50 bottles things were started to look up. Â All in all, they have good drink specials and a big party atmosphere -- no one is there for a casual drink. Â They recently built an outside bar with tables around it and that was pretty nice -- a little more low key than inside.
My biggest complaint came up when we went back later in the week at night to see a band. Â The crowd was bigger and the place a little more exciting from the beginning, but it was the loudest band I have ever experienced -- ever. Â It was loud to the point where we had to leave and go outside. Â It was literally causing pain in my ears and I couldn't justify compromising my long term hearing for a band. Â They need to turn it back down to 10 -- 11 is a tad much.
The OD is fun, but it gets old. Â I had a great time going when I was 19-22, but the bands are getting tired and old, the crowds are obnoxious (can they possibly stuff more people inside?), and the people and staff are less than desirable. Â To each their own, but there are certainly better places to hang out.
Review Source:Fantastic hangout! Moderately priced drinks, look for specials during the week including no-shower happy hour.
Wednesday is dollar tacos 2 for $1.00, you can also purchase a mug for $5.00 and get $1.50 refills.
There's a live band every night of the week. Local favorites include Mr. Green Genes and Secret Service. Cover bands, of course but both really good and there's always a DJ playing between sets.
Weekends are undoubtedly insane Memorial Day Weekend and 4th of July are crazy so keep your options open.
Overall great place to make memories at the beach.
What a toilet bowl. This place has EVERYTHING that I HATE in a bar. Guidos, LOUD music, frat boys, annoying chicks, bad odor, vomit on the floor and packed to the gills.
Seems to be more of a "status" thing with the young people. I guess you're not "cool" if you're down there and don't go to the OD. I've been to my fair share of bars and this one is no different. Just too loud and I don't like getting bumped into every 30 seconds by someone with spiked hair. If I'm at the shore with fun people, then there's really no need to leave the house.
Bottom line; If you're a frat boy, a guido or 21 - welcome home.
When I give this 5 starts I'm not necessarily saying it is a 5 star bar. Â But what I am saying is it is a 5 star shore bar and I've had some 5 star fun here. Â Criteria for shore bars is different. Â It's all about how much fun you can have in a short amount of time.
The OD is everything that a shore bar should be. Â It's crowed. Â It's loud. Â It has awesome drink specials. Â It features really fun cover bands. Â The No Shower Happy Hour (which speaks for itself). Â Good looking guys (I think). Â A really popping dance floor. Â Like I said, everything one would want in a shore bar.
Friday night with Burnt Sienna was probably the most fun night I've had all summer, and I think my friends would all agree. Â We all had to take our heels off to walk home which is the number one sign of a good night in girl world. Â Then to follow it up with the No Shower Happy Hour on Saturday afternoon. Â Secret Service really knows how to get a party started, and how to keep it rolling all night... although I think I'm getting too old and had to leave by 7:30.
One thing I can say is I would never ever under any circumstance try the food here. Â At a bar like this, I can't imagine what you are being served!
Dear OD,
The nights I fully remember spending with you, are few, but the nights that are filled in for me somehow always revolve around you. Sunday Funday is probably the best/worst idea ever. Your lemonade is liquid crack and I can't resist it. The fact that you don't require me to shower is a major bonus, especially since one of your other drunk female patrons is probably going to dump her drink on me while she's "dancing" and singing Toto's "Africa." I really like playing flip cup too. That's nice of you to provide those cups for us. Thanks also for the really hot bartenders, they've been really nice to look at over the years!
See you soon!
xoxo,
Jill
Seemed like a great place just hang out. Drink prices were good, however shots come in pathetic little medicine cups, but cost full price. Little did I know that aforementioned great drink price were on special, and it costs $5 for a BOTTLE. Sigh. Oh well, the atmosphere was overall pretty chill. A solid place to visit in the area. Just don't waste your money on "shots"
Review Source:All summer long, all I heard was "No Shower Happy Hour."
People who had gone down to the shore for a weekend, people who were living down there for the summer, "No Shower Happy Hour."
So when I came down to Avalon for a weekend, I was determined to check out this world famous No Shower Happy Hour.
But, we missed the NJ transit bus and nobody was able/wanted to drive, so it seemed like the OD would have to wait for another day. Â And I'm glad it did, because Sunday was insane, so I think I'm officially too old for No Shower Happy Hour.
For a Sunday Funday afternoon, this place was mobbed. Â As others have said, it's a mix of younger people and random older folks sprinkled in. Â Also, if you want to fit in, wear a basketball jersey. Â I don't know what's going on down here, but it seemed like half of the people in the place were rocking jerseys.
We got there about 6 for Secret Service and then Mr. Greengenes. Â The first special were the OD Lemonades, $5 at first with $2.50 refills. Â I have no idea what the alcohol was in these drinks, rumors flying around said it was Everclear. Â Whatever it was, they were pretty good. Â The place was packed, but it's also big, and the outdoor space is nice too. Â The bands were good, I had several beverages, and bailed out of there around 1:30am for some Wawa and a bed. Â That's my kind of Sunday.
You have to be a certain person to appreciate the antics that go on inside the OD. Full of guidos and jerseyshore rats, you definitely need to come with a friend or two.
They have awesome drink specials ($2.50 redbull & vod til 11) & also the covers bands are wild! I had a total blast once I got a few in me. What I like about this place the most is that it isn't just full of young people trying to get laid, but you always manage to see some older couples our a whole slew of older family members hanging out & enjoying the fun.
One complaint (and I'm sure this is the case for most of the bars int hat area), $5 for a miller lite bottle? You are outta your mind.
If you want to experience Sea Isle, go to the OD & have a drink special for me.

I love this bar. In the cold winter months, I long for the loud music and Sunday Funday lemonade. Â I look forward to Memorial Day weekend when Sea Isle bursts into a full-on shitshow with much of that attributed to the unparalleled atmosphere of the OD. Â
We thank you for reminding us of all things summer, Ocean Drive. Â See you in late May.
If you like banging on the ceiling in time to the music and smelly frat parties, this place is for you. If you recently turned 21, or are looking for recently turned 21-yr-olds, this place is for you. If you are on a first name basis with the lead singer of Mr. Greengenes, this place is for you. Or if you are just looking for a crowded raucous good time, this place is for you.
It's loud, cramped, dark and my feet are black when I leave, but I usually manage to have a good time here. Numerous $1 beers probably have something to do with that. Fun cover bands, lots of young people looking to have a good time, and cheap beer and jello shots - if this is what you're looking for then OD is the best around.
"No shower happy hour" on Saturdays from 4-6pm is always fun after the beach, and Sunday Jam with Secret Service and electric lemonades is a SIC staple. Weekend nights also feature drink specials and pack in hordes of fun-loving kids (using the term loosely) to drink and dance to alternating cover bands and DJ sets. Cover starts at 11pm, so get there early.
Word to the wise: Do NOT go out the side door to talk on your cell when there's cover if you don't have a hand stamp b/c you will not get let back in without paying. At least not without pleading to the bouncer that it's your birthday weekend, all your friends are inside, and you had to talk to your younger brother who for some reason cannot find the bar. Trust me.
Word to the wise #2: It's probably not a good idea to lose your contact on the floor here and then put it back in your eye after only rinsing it with tap water. Just sayin.
Ok, I'm done with the self calls.
Claustrophobia is the first word that comes to mind. Wow, overcrowded. Not sure what the space looks like since it was so crowded I could hardly move anywhere let alone dance or walk around. They had a pretty good cover band though that is not exactly my cup of tea. Sucks to have to pay a cover to go in knowing you will spend money on drinks anyway. But pretty much every place in the area charges a cover anyway. Pretty long line to get in everyday that we were at Sea Isle. Guess its a hot spot, but not really a place I'd choose to go back to.
Review Source:Bar and restaurant? The OD has food? If you asked me a couple years ago, I would have given the OD a solid three or four stars. But I felt old walking by this summer. The thought of paying the cover, going inside, standing around in a crowded room, and listening to Secret Service do another cover of Brown Eyed Girl felt exhausting. It's amazing that you can smell the stale beer from the sidewalk. It does bring back memories.
Review Source:Oh O.D. Â I love you yet I hate you. Â You have provided hours upon hours of my summer entertainment in SIC for years. Â Two years ago, I would have given you five stars-- my love was that strong! Â Sadly, as the years pass, so does my affection. Â Let me explain.
For the first few summers of my young twenties, you were my absolute favorite shore bar. Â You get all the best local cover bands~ Burnt Sienna, Secret Service and my all-time favorite, Mr. Greengenes! Â Your bathroom is a decent size and people don't have to wait in line for hours just to pee! Â Your jello-shot guy lets people buy the entire tray and become the Master of the Whipped Cream Can and everyone's favorite person in the bar for a full two minutes!
Yet, with all these fantastic qualities, the silver lining is starting to fade. Â I no longer have the desire to visit you on holiday weekends, for fear of drowning in the sweat that is produced by the 5000 people you stuff into your establishment. Â I can no longer turn a blind eye to the chick who looks like she's about to return her drinks all over my new flip flops. Â And I am so over spending buttloads of money on you with nothing in return except for a huge blue stamp on my arm and some hazy yet still very embarrassing memories of my actions while spending time with you. Â
To put it bluntly, O.D., I feel like you are taking advantage of me. Â Yet strangely enough, I can not let you go. Â So I will continue to visit, albeit less frequently, and I will continue to make a drunken fool of myself every time.
The OD is a tradition! The bands can be hit or miss and the bartenders can be dicks but that's all part of the charm. It's really not a place for anyone getting long in the tooth, the OD is a young man's game. If you're among the earliest to arrive for the no shower happy hour, you'll notice that the empty bar room definately smells like vomit. By later that night, when it's dark and crowded (and you're sloshed) you won't be able to smell it anymore. This bar is an aphrodesiac for ugly people. The elephant man could score a girl at the OD. Be good or be gone.
Review Source:If you like 80's cover bands, waiting in line to pay cover charges and drinking miller lite then this is your bar. This bar epitomizes Jersey Cheesiness. And I'm from Jersey so I should know. I think I went to this bar once when I was 21 and haven't been back since. Â But who knows, maybe this bar is for you. I'd rather go to Reggae night at Shenanigans down the street.
Review Source:What can I say, it's a typical beach bar - crowded (no longer smokey since you have to go outside to smoke), loud and fun! Â Just watch your drinks ladies and never leave them on the bar unattended. Â
Great bands on the weekends in the summer. Â If you can handle crowds, loud and people bumping into you spilling drinks - this is a place to go! Â :)
Seriously it's a good time!
