giving this place a 3.5. we did go there on a Sunday night after 9:30PM so it was pretty quiet. Â the bartender was cool enough to accommodate some of our song requests and open up the dance floor. Â i'm sure this place gets packed on friday and saturday nights. drinks were ok but maybe we will return another night when it's busier.
Review Source:A fun place, ESPECIALLY for "Taco Tuesday".
Far from fine dining, this place is fun and good food at very reasonable prices for near-waterfront dining right off Ali'i.
Service can vary, though is almost always good or better. Â On our most recent visit, the service was very good, and the waitress was attentive and insured our large group was happy, hydrated (with drinks and water), and that we got our orders promptly, enjoyed the food, and had everything we needed.
If you're looking for a casual, sports-bar type restaurant with tasty tacos (and very fresh tasting fish) near the waterfront... this is the place. Â
Very good pricing on drinks and food (at least the tacos on tues/thurs). Â On my most recent visit we had a party of 8 enjoying their fill of tacos and MANY drinks (for probably an hour and a half at least), with a total bill before tip of $205.
Tasty, fun, bargain.
This place is great and I will continue to come here frequently.
Everytime I visit Kona, I have to go to Oceans. Â I like that the atmosphere is laid back and I have always had great service from the bartenders. Â They have enough material and signs to inform any customer of their specials, and yes the tacos are great.... So are the Red Bull and grape vodka's!
Review Source:The atmosphere is great- lots of screens and lots of space in an airy bar. Â The food was pretty good for a sports bar. Â Nothing spectaular but good with some drinks and game watching. Â The macnut crab wontons were great as were the potatio skins and coconut shrimp. Â The chicken tenders were decent but really, what can you say about chicken tenders? Â :)
The reason why I gave this only 2 stars was because of the horrible service. Â The bartenders seemed good but we had a horrible server. Â We arrived early on Sunday morning when the bar was full but the tables were mostly empty. Â We had to wask for water, we had to ask for menus, we had to ask for silverware. She kept taking our menu after we ordered some appetizers and we had to keep asking for it back so we could order more food and drinks.
We had to keep tracking her down to get service along with all the other tables around us. Â We asked for the bill and it took her over 30 minutes to run our card beacsue she was talking to some friends at the bar. Â She was rude, didn't smile, and was irritated whenever someone ordered more drinks (um hello, you work at a bar?!?)
If you go there, sit at the bar- the bartenders were great.  If you sit at a table and get  Sara as a server, ask for someone else.
I can't speak to their food since I didn't eat here. Â The reason I am giving it a one star was based on a single experience so may not be indicative of other's experience. Â It was a quiet night with only a few people there. Â A couple of obviously drunk idiots start arguing and yelling at each other. Â As happens with drunk folks, this escalates into yelling and screaming with lots of "F*^& Yous" outside. Â Everything is open air in Hawaii especially on Alii so the nice families all around are getting an earful of drunken moron speak. Â You're saying "This isn't the bars fault. Â Idiots fight all the time." Â Well the smaller of the two left the area and the bigger guy walks back into the bar and continues to drink. Â Within 15 minutes Big idiot is back outside with someone else and is actually pushing this guy to the ground as he yells his "F*&% Yous". Â The smaller patron that is getting pushed around also leaves the area. Â Still maybe shouldn't reflect poorly on the bar? Â I'm giving them a one star because this same guy that has picked fights with two people sending them away is now back in the bar and being served alcohol again. Â I saw some people with young kids calling the cops after the second fight. Â Hopefully the bar got a visit by the cops as well. Â Another yelper described the place as "douchey". Â I would go along with that.
Review Source:I've eaten here a few times . . . It's alright . . .
Their Taco Tuesdays/Thursdays are great - the Kalua Tacos as well as the Beer battered mahi mahi tacos are sooo delish! (But I think I can make better Kalua Tacos). $2.50 for all Tacos, Coronas, and Dos XX - I find that to be a bit pricey for the tacos seeing as the tacos are tiny. Pool tables, TVs everywhere, and family seating make for a fun atmosphere. Their long island iced teas are yummmmmy. One of the best I've had (and I order long islands A LOT.)
Overall, I'd recommend trying it out!
Douchey sports bar, but really good taco tuesday/thursday deals! cheap corona and cheap good tacos. The mahi mahi grilled taco was AMAZING.
I did not like the weird dude energy, but if you like sports, guys with puffy chests, backwards baseball caps, and gross machismo, you would probably love this place!!
Awesome bar! Â I love coming here when I'm on vacation. Â The food is always good, especially the kalua pork quesadillas, tuna balls, and steamed fish. Â I also love their taco Tuesday special. Â (I'm surprised the other poster didn't know about it because there are signs everywhere.) Â Plus, happy hour is a great deal.
The service is efficient and friendly. Â The bartenders make great drinks. Â Overall, excellent place to come watch a game or hang out. Â I love this place so much that I went to their sister bar in Kihei too.
During the day this place is a casual eatery, very laid back and quiet. at night this is a Wild locals bar. Any time you talk about locals drinking, you can expect it can get rowdy! It's a younger club (21-25) R&B music, back smoking porch. it's everything you want a dance club to be. cheap liquor, scantly clad girls, and macho guys oozing testosterone. The crowd is mainly straight. (men looking for women, women acting like they don't want to be found but desperately hoping to meet mr. Right, and ending up with Mr.right now) The bar much like the Island is gay tolerant. most of the natives i have come in contact with can out drink a sailor, and out smoke a Rastafarian.( and those are the girls) This place is no exception! Good times to be had by all.
Review Source:Three stars for these reasons:
1) We were not informed of happy hour when we went to watch the game...I found out later when the waitress mentioned it AFTER we complimented the mac nut wontons...
2) Was not informed about Taco Tuesdays and Thursdays.
3) There was a menu for happy hour...but we didn't get it, I saw another waitress give it to other patrons.
Got the check and loved that our special drinks were $5.00 each!!
Lillikoi margarita on the rocks with li hing mui on the rim of the glass..deeelish!
Pupus:
Macadamia nut wontons: filled with real crab, mac nuts, and cream cheese. Yummmy! I can def recreate these for parties!
Kalua Pork nachos! Kalua pork was delish!
The place is open til 2AM! Go for a night cap!
Mahalo!
What a great place! My husband and I were visiting Kona and came upon this great restaurant. Although it is a sports bar, they had a great menu. Fresh fish, ribs, salads, and more! The food was amazing, I ordered the surf and turf and my husband ordered the ribs. The surf and turf consisted of  kalua pork wrapped in ti leaf and coconut crusted fresh catch with a pina colada sauce.  My husbands ribs was sooo  tasty! We also came back on a Tues night, and I guess its Taco Tuesdays. Packed! Couldn't find a seat. Night life was great also. Live dj on weekends and a great crowd.  I would definitely recommend this restaurant.
Review Source:9/6/08: Happy hour deals provide some savings but not to the extent that one would hope/expect (all drafts at $2.50, mixed drinks and appetizers are both $2.00 off their regular prices). They have a great selection of draft beers, including special blends made by local brewers. Outdoor seating is available and nice, lots of TV's inside for the sports enthusiasts.
Review Source:I arrived in Kona thinking...Wheres the Party? and then I walked into it here. It was really busy with people playing pool and dancing around with their pool sticks lip syncing to an 80*s song! I was having a good time until I had to pee.....oh my god the girls line was like standing in line to see a star wars movie. all in all it was a pretty cool bar. The only night life I really saw in Kona was here.
Review Source:There isn't really much to offer as far as a club scene is concerned. This place becomes a club some time after 10pm. Even though they do this all week; only on Friday - Sunday nights is there any action. I guess it's better than nothing. Unless you want to check out the 'local' club like the 'Shark-tank'. Sounds scary, right. The dj was decent for a bit. We just concentrated in drinking and having fun.
