I travel a lot and love bbq pork.  Hands down the best bbq pork in North AL, if you like really smoky bbq.  I have not tried their ribs.  I can best describe it as great homestyle southern comfort food.  Everything is fresh.  For the person on the review who thought it was too smokey, that is southern bbq, stick to your fast food or chain bbq.  The sides are good and the desserts are special.  Whenever I am in the area, I always stop.

The staff here was very friendly. But the food was not. I ordered smoked chopped chicken and ribs. I should've known that it wouldn't be good when I didn't even smell BBQ outside. The food tasted like charcoal lighter fluid was poured on the top of the food. I won't be going back here.

Looked for a good review in Fort Payne for lunch on our cross country trip.  Why not BBQ today after some good fried chicken yesterday in Virginia.  Had a little trouble finding this at the edge of a strip mall but I am so glad we didn't give up.  We asked for recommendations and were told that if we were hungry the lunch platters were the way to go.  My husband had the smoked chicken, fries and green beans and I had the pulled pork, collards and green beans.  I knew I was golden when the hot pepper vinegar came out with the greens.  Also, corn bread to die for.  Dark, bare bones decor but this is about the food!

Never here for the food, always for the party.

And what a party!! DJ Glaze is awesome and the bar staff is not afraid of a good pour.

Everytime we go here for the evening we TURN UP!!! and this is a great place to do it.

This is going to be short and sweet the BBQ's pork ribs, potato salad, pork plate and chicken plate are to die for...don't finish until you have the cobbler.  Really, this review should have been written when it was all fresh in my mind...but, I'll say this...it's about a two hour drive to Fort Payne from Madison, AL and I am looking for a reason to take a ride up that away so I can get to eat there again.  They know how to cook!

Went in on a Tuesday evening for some family time with a group of seven. The hostess was very sweet and quick about getting two tables put together for us. Tim and I were there with our moms, his step-dad and our two daughters. We'd heard the place had good steaks, good music, great waitresses and reasonable prices. Unfortunately, the steaks are only served on Friday and Saturday and Tuesdays they don't have live music either. Despite our disappointment, the place was still inviting and our waitress was very pleasant and good at her job. After checking out the menu, we ordered the fried pickles and mushrooms as our starters and they were typical fried snacks. We then ordered one pork plate, one chicken finger plate, one pork sandwich plate, a Cajun shrimp salad, and three plates of fried catfish with various sides. All the food was tasty and well cooked (except the macaroni and cheese which did not appear to be baked as listed in the menu and was soupy with overcooked noodles.) We ordered peach cobblers for dessert and it was also very yummy although at that point we couldn't finish them. We had some leftovers that we took with us because the portions were large and the food was worth taking home and having for lunch tomorrow. The prices were quite reasonable for seven people, two of which drank alcohol, and we had 2 appetizers and 3 desserts as well. Our waitress was on the ball and our drinks never went dry. We enjoyed our meals and the atmosphere and will definitely be going back again and hopefully catching some music next time.

The good things are: friendly service, great prices ($4.99 for meat plus 2 sides), huge portions.
The food for me was just average. The pulled pork was overwhelmed by the extreme "smoky" taste of what could only be a liquid smoke product.
Not bad for a $4.99 lunch, just not great either

Great service. Great pork ribs and potatoe salad.  Very smokey and very large pork ribs.  Baked beans were good.  Great sweet tea. Pulled pork was good but bun was just store bought typical bun.

Fire place in restaurant was nice. Atmosphere was plain but that was a nice surprise.

    3 rib dinner with 2 sides $7.99.

Friday afternoon, 3pm, kinda late to get something fresh since it's between lunch and dinner. WRONG!  Three of us had lunch platters ($4.99 till 4pm), two pulled pork and one chopped chicken barbecue. Our sides included collard greens, slaw, baked mac & cheese (two sides per plate) and corn bread (biscuits were available, but I never pass up corn bread.)

A very friendly wait staff delivered hot, fresh barbecue, perfectly seasoned collard greens, and very healthy portions. Worried about leaving hungry? I am a very big eater and usually prefer buffets. This place did not disappoint. I could not have eaten another bite.  Well, maybe, but I really was full.

Total lunch with three teas, tax and tip and we were looking at just a little over $21.  The decor was spartan but they did have photos and posters of the great blues musicians, and a small stage would have been great for singing the blues if we had been there in the evening.

Great food and friendly service, and you can really have a great experience while having a great meal.

Being a lover of good bbq, I'm always on the search for the best.  That's what lead me and a buddy to Ol' Tymers.  Out for a quiet Saturday ride on the bikes, we decided to go to Fort Payne.  I googled "Fort Payne BBQ" and Ol' Tymers was top on the list.  So we headed out from Acworth, Georgia and found Ol' Tymers at the end of a little strip center on Gault.

When we walked in, we forgot about the time difference and found it was barely after 11AM.  Our stomach's didn't know nothing about no time difference.  Amber at the bar was nice (and a little hottie too) and told us to have a seat.  I ordered up a pork plate and my buddy ordered the sampler with fried catfish, chicken and something else.

They even have a Bear Bryant Shrine behind the bar.  Amber confessed she was a huge Bama fan.

Then Amber plopped her butt up on the cooler behind the bar and served up some Fort Payne hospitality.

Our food came out quick and was awesome!  The pork, potato salad and baked beans were hot, fresh and very tasty.  Fresh roll and sweet tea topped it all off.  My buddy said the catfish was good too.

As part of our motorcycling tradition, we ordered up a shot of Jack and for me, the cheapest, nastiest, raunchiest tequila in the house.  Amber posed with me for my traditional photo opportunity and before we knew it, we were heading back to Georgia but not before Amber comp'd the booze.

Friendly people, great food and nice atmosphere.  Next time my travels take me anywhere near Fort Payne, I'll be visiting Ol' Tyme!

I was in town for work and the desk clerk from the hotel referred me to this place. From the street it looks like a dive in a strip mall and that would be a correct assumption.
The waitresses were great, they were all friendly and chatted away as they walked by checking on me.
I was referred to the place for its barbecue so I ordered the ribs. For $8 you got 3 meaty ribs, two sides, and a roll. The ribs were very good.
There was a band in the other room and they sounded pretty good but being in the other room made the volume right.
I would definitely visit this place again if I have to go back to Ft. Payne.

Fort Payne was always known for music.  Sadly, the places to sit back and enjoy good food, sip on a cold one and chill out to some good tunes are very hard to come by.
Thankful for the dedicated owner and staff at Ol' Tymers to keep the legancy of music alive in Fort Payne.  Need more like this!
Food is great, and the atmosphere ...  cool!

Great atmosphere and super friendly staff. They have a blues theme here with one half of the place set aside for a stage and restaurant, the other side is a bar and tables. Mostly families before 8 p.m., mostly adults after. Usually a blues guitarist playing during lunch or dinner hour for tips. Highly unusual for Fort Payne and a welcome thing, considering how important music is to the community. The owner is a super nice guy who always comes around to make sure everything was good.
