Delicious breakfast food... fresh squeezed OJ, unique omelette combos, fast service.

AWESOME! We drive from Atlanta, MI to come here. The peanut butter pie is excellent and we usually take a whole pie or at least some pieces of pie home for another day.
Family friendly, wonderful quality food, and great service we love coming to the Depot!

This is an excellent little restaurant. They make their food from scratch, as far as I've been able to tell. The pies are especially good.

As a point of interest, The Old Depot really was an old railroad depot; Joburg was at the end of a spur of the Michigan Central Railroad. The tracks were taken up decades ago, but the depot remained.

It was located nearer the corner than the current building. A few years ago a car ran through that corner and crashed into the building. As I recall, this was not an accident. It's a sad story, and explains the memorial plaques by the entrance door, in case you were wondering.

In addition to the excellent pies, breakfast is quite good.  Like Craig R., we go here when visiting my in-laws' cabin.  I've never been here for lunch or dinner, but breakfast is worth the trip.  Besides the ususal pancakes-eggs-waffles fare, the menu features some unusual items.  I had a gyro scramble - feta, eggs, gyro topped on a pita.  Kind of an open faced egg thing.  You won't be disappointed.  Go for breakfast and take a pie home.

    Short Review:
    -Excellent food
-The best pie you can find anywhere
    -Nice staff
-It is pretty small inside even after being rebuilt

    Longer Review:
I honestly wish I had pictures of the pies from this place. They are what make it the best place to get dinner anywhere in the area. Admittedly, there aren't many other 'upscale' restaurants around for say 10 miles, but this place is awesome.

The Old Depot has great typical American fare to choose from including steaks, seafood etc. I've been here probably 20+ times over my years as my parents own a cabin not far off. I've never had anything bad on the menu.

It is a cosy little place, even still today after it was rebuilt. There's probably not room for more than 50 people inside. The staff is always incredibly helpful and the owner of the place is on site every single day. The owner is the nicest lady in the world. She used to work in Commerce Township Michigan for a place called the Bubble and Squeak Tavern, but moved north.

Anyway, she makes pies by hand, personally, every single day of the week. There are usually anywhere from 20-30 different fresh pies to choose from. My favorite over the years has always been her Sugar free Strawberry pie, but you honestly can't go wrong. Last I was there I got Banana Creme pie as well as Moose Tracks (or maybe it was Elk Tracks?) pie. Every slice of pie you get is gigantic, and it is hard to find a better piece of pie anywhere.

Now, the Old Dept was rebuilt as I mentioned. A car crashed right into it several years ago and totally destroyed the restaurant. Since it's been rebuilt, it has lost a little bit of its 'Old Depot' nostalgia, but it is still beautiful inside. Also, the new restaurant easily accommodates more people and really is just nicer inside.

I cannot recommend a better place to get food/desserts in northern Michigan.
