i stumbled upon this place one day in the summer and after a tasty lunch on the front lawn, I'm a fan. Good, basic, food. Nice local staff. And then you go inside and see the insanity of a taxidermy collection - this is awesome!

The Old Schoolhouse Inn is a must! The staff are friendly and attentive, the space has been restored beautifully and the owners have added some especially interesting touches. If you've never seen a stuffed Wolley Booger, I'd say that is reason enough to visit, however you will not be disappointed by the food. Specifically the meat. We ordered the prime rib and a burger and they were both prepared to perfection! They have a full bar as well as local brew selections and the prices are excellent!

I grew up in a town only 15 minutes away, so many childhood memories of dining out usually include this place.  Over 20 years, the interior decor has remained mostly the same.  My favorite reason to come to this place was to play some of the video games and wood board bowling game (use a metal puck and slide it down the the length of a 'lane') in the bar area.

Food is consistently good and  I would vouch for it being the best in the surrounding area.  Another reviewer gave high marks for the burger and this is definitely their claim to fame.  I also look forward to going here for the all you can eat salad bar that includes shrimp cocktail.  While the shrimp are on the small side and you have to expend quite a lot of energy peeling them, how many other restaurants do you know that have this amenity included as part of an entree?  Skip the pastas and ocean seafood because while they are good, they're just standard dishes that you can get anywhere (maybe I'm spoiled because of the seafood I can get in Boston).  Instead, order beef and pork dishes - seriously, this is what upstate New York is all about and we're serious about our beef.  And, frankly, this is what the Old Schoolhouse does best. All you vegan hippies can go to Ithaca or Woodstock.....

While left area 12 years ago, my parents still live in the house where I grew up and we always make it tradition to visit the Old Schoolhouse Inn when looking for a great meal out of the house.

All five stars belong to this restaurant's magnificent burgers.

I vouch for nothing else.  So don't go visit and order their Shrimp Parmesan and tell me this isn't a 5* restaurant.  Because there is only one thing to order, and that thing used to moo.

If you listen carefully enough, you might still hear it mooing.  Which is a nifty trick for a burger.  But this restaurant sits in front of 150 acres of hilly grass pasture, which is home to a herd of Texas Longhorn cattle.  One of which should be between two pieces of bun and cooked to your liking.

Rare was truly rare, with a cool red center, yet still the burger had a nice charred outer crust.  And medium rare was also executed to my excruciatingly high standards and was bright pink all the way through.

I would totally make the two hour drive down from Albany again just to get another one of these burgers.  But then again, I'm into long distance driving.  And burgers.  Especially locally-raised grass-fed ones.

Nice buns too.  But the decor seems to have been handled by Norman Bates.  You've been warned.

N.B. Just make sure to ask for your burger without cheese, otherwise it's American. And they only take credit if your check is over $20.
