I came here for  Cinco de Drinko/Mayo this year  to meet my friend who's
a regular. Â I was surprised at how modern and trendy looking
the bar was for being in a strip mall.
It's not a very big place, but, a great selection of drinks and beers.
Kudos for the nice new TV;s to watch sports and there were a  lot of
drink specials going on that night. Â I was super happy to see the
Mayweather fight going on that night with no cover charge!
The only thing I didn't care for was that the place could use some shades
or pull-down blinds. They are on a corner in a strip mall and everybody can
see yor business through the wrap around window, minor detail....
Another big plus Jack in the box  and Taco Bell right accross the street.  I would def
come back if I find myself in Marina with a bit of a thirst.
I live in Marina and before the Otters Den opened its doors a year ago I had to take taxis all the way from downtown Monterey which cost me a fortune. The Otter's Den is a great way for me to save money on taxis and still have a great time with my friends. They have a great selection of beer on tap and always have the best games on the TV.
Review Source:Very interesting vibe here and I will need to visit again to figure it all out. Â Service was friendly and we sat at the bar, I stared at the shelves of decent liquor offerings which reminded me of bar found in a trendy nightclub or the cover of the movie Cocktails... but there are tv screens everywhere and a billiards table... is this place a sports bar? Â Then there are a couple sofas ... is this a lounge? Â No Shiho... it's a den. Â I think I'm confused because we never had a den while growing up... just one main living room. Â I enjoyed a couple Corona's with Lime... the lime was super fresh and my bebida super refreshing. Â Thank you gentlemen.
Review Source:Before this place sustained severe fire damage, the Otter's Den was a bit of a dive bar. Â It was one of those places you would never set foot in. Â The clientele was also much different. Â Marina's rednecks, fake ass gangsters and drunk old women is what you would typically see. Â Fortunately, it has all changed for the better.
I find the Otter's Den to be a pretty fun place to get a drink and hang out with your friends. Â The ambiance is a bit mellow, you can enjoy a drink without being bothered by other patrons, everyone seems to be on their own wavelength which is most definitely a welcome change.
Jim, one of the bartenders here, is a magnanimous soul indeed. Â Without hesitation, he mixes up uncommon drinks that my fiancee and I request and doesnt bitch about it one bit like most other bartenders in the area would. Â I really liked the fact that if Jim doesn't know how to mix a particular drink, that he will "learn it after making it three times" as he so eloquently puts it. Â Bartenders more often than not, have a limited repertoire and aren't willing to mix drinks that they aren't familiar with. Â Jim is always more than eager to mix what we want and that went a long way with me.
A stark contrast when you compare my experiences here with those who have said the bartenders, most notably Trinidad are rude. Â All of my experiences have been quite the opposite and now I am curious as to how all of the others who have complained about the bartenders were acting. Â
This place deserves five stars, however, I only gave them four because their selection was "somewhat" lacking (don't worry, they have all of the basics down pat).
I went here with friends and the bartender Trinidad tried to play me for a drunk foul blonde girl and over charge me on my drinks! I guess he figured I wouldn't notice! When I confronted him on it he called me a lier took my bill than said don't worrie about it than approached my friends and me and made a statement ( dont worry I won't over charge u like your friends thinks)! Â I'm sorry otters Den u use to be cool but your bartender is a jerk and I will not return with my friends when Trinidad is working in fact maybe never again! Â Big Joke Of a Bartender!
Review Source:Great place to go have a beer & hang out with friend's. Great atmosphere plenty of flat screen's for your sporting need's. Friendly & great bartenders that are fast and efficient so you are never left with an empty glass :) Would deffinantly reccomend this place to other's if you live in Marina or just passing by.
PS: draft beers Guiness, Hemp Ale & Newcastle $ 2.50 a pint during Happy Hour :)
Came here the other weekend with the hubs and some friends. Â Cute little spot..local dive bar with many of the locals. Â Cool dj..really good music. Â One pool table, which is cool, but there's this one old man that hogs the damn pool table..comes in with his own pool stick and my hubby and his friend wanted to play a game together and this guy goes, well you have to beat me...so they both came close and still after that, he didn't give up the table...I' mean cmon, man, just one game, can my hubby and his friend play? Â By the way, you don't own the bar or the pool table..I wanted to hit him with his own stick..perhaps another pool table would be nice... they have 1 dart board...the place looks like its been redesigned..looks modern, cute and nice..bartenders are very very nice...vibe is cool also. Â I'd totally come back but I hope if that guy is there at the pool table, he'll learn to share.
Review Source:I went to The Otters Den last weekend, and it was a decent enough time. It was pouring rain outside, so I will blame the emptiness on that.
My friend and I walked in for a drink and there were 5 other customers - 3 at the bar watching UFC and 2 shooting pool.
The bartender was nice enough. He poured me a beer that I never officially ordered, but said to my friend that I might have. She ordered a vodka drink and was pleased with it.
The attention of the bartender after we got our drinks was almost non-existent. He sat on the far end of the bar, checked his phone, or watched UFC. I had my card out for a good 10 minutes, with my purse on the bar, and it wasn't until I began rotating it in my hand that he brought the bill. Even then, I can't comment on the prices of the drinks because I never got an itemized receipt.
Nit-picking? Maybe, but when there are 6 people in the bar (including you and your 2 friends) you'd think the service would be a bit better.
The decor is nice, so I hope it's better on a busier evening.
Since the new owner has taken over and completely re-vamped, it's great! It's definitely not the dive bar anymore but a comfortable place to hang out. Wine Down Wednesday is awesome, glass of wine & an assortment of cheese, crackers & fruit. There's a jukebox and flat screens everywhere to enjoy some football! The bartenders, Trinidad & James are always friendly & attentive, give it a try.
Review Source:Great sports lounge great bar, pool darts and lot's of flat screen tv's. Very recently remodeled so no longer a dive but a cool loungey  kinda a vibe.
This is the go to place for a cocktail and catching a game in Marina. You got to check it out for yourselves.
Very convenient, atm next door and noodle bar across the street.
