"The Packing House" could ONLY exist in the great North East Kingdom of Vermont. Â It's the absolute epitome of a backwoods "dance club" and during the holidays it really is the only game in town: Â
A little background info: Â Caledonia county has 29,702 people. Â According to the most recent census information (2000), 8.8 % of that number is between the ages of 18-24. Â Out of these 2,613 "young adults" my guess is that a least half of 'em walked through the heavily guarded security checkpoint 'neath the front door of "the Packer" this Thanksgiving 'eve.
My bro and I got there at around midnight... paid our $5 at the door @ ID check #1, then got our bracelets @ ID check #2. Â It's an eighteen and up establishment; apparently they take their verification super-seriously. Â When we finally got inside it was balls to the wall...the intensity of a meatpacking district hot-spot but with the clientele clad in Carhartt instead of Marc Jacobs. Â The DJ was playing mid-90s radio club-bangers and girls were literally swinging from poles and grinding up on stage.
We ordered a half-dozen beers, some Jager-bombs, and some shots. Â The bill was like 12 bucks. Â There's a smoking yard to the left with a security guard standing ever-vigilant on top of a picnic table. Â While not my usual variety of watering-hole, the Packing House is Vermont through and through and definitely worth a visit if you're in the area.
