It was our first adventure to Chateau Elan, so we decided to check out Paddy's for our after wine tour. Â I am sure that I approve of this place more than I should as a result of the blissful time that I was having on the vaca. Â We decided to try an appetizer of something like some tempura mushrooms. Â clearly, I had on wine goggles because I did not notice that you only get 3 of them for some ridiculous price that was ridiculously close to $10. Â Now, this is a gripe of mine. Â If you are selling appetizers, who is the CRUEL person who decides to offer them in uneven numbers. Â Especially 3??? Â It is like... Â if you have a pair of people sharing an appetizer, each of you can have one, no problem. Â Then you get to the 3rd one and you are looking at them, they are looking at you, y'all are looking at the appetizer that is looking at both of you. Â You do not want to be rude, but neither of you have had anything to eat all day and having ONE bite of something is really not enough to whet your whistle OR enough to really let you know if you like it or now. Â I mean, it is just a pop of a bite in the first place. Â And, those suckers are HOT. Â So, the one lone bite of mushroom is just looking at you both and no one wants to say - oh, you have it. Â But, they also do not want to say - I don't want it. Â You SUCK for giving people only 3 mushrooms, Paddys! Â
I had the lobster bisque that was clearly only lobster flavored, there was not even a slither of lobster meat in the bowl. Â I had the fish & chips, but instead of the fries, I had a salad. Â Now, sorry for a second rant in this review (and this one is not even about Paddy's, but about people advertising CHIPS overall). Â WHY do we have to call it chips when they are clearly fries? Â When I see the word chips, I expect something thin, crispy, fresh. Â Most of the time, your chip/fries are all thick and not crispy at all. Â Lets just call it fish and fries. Â Doesn't that alliteration work better for your purposes anyway? Â If you are saying that you are giving me chips, then I want chips danggit!
We went back the next day because we heard that they had some really good Irish Cream. Â Yep, it is good. Â They make it from a recipe similar to what is given to you on a website like Pinterest. Â But, they want it for $10 per dang shot! Â WHAT??? Â For a sip of some stuff you mixed up in the back? Â Their bread pudding is pretty good, it was only $6. Â
Revisit your pricing structure Paddy. Â Ugh.
A local chef recently commented regarding the state of dining in 2013 "Is the $50 meal the new $15 meal?" Paddy's has me wondering that very thing, although we didn't quite pay $50 per person.
The thing I love about Paddy's is its location halfway between Greenville, SC, and Atlanta, GA. Located on the Chateau Elan resort, it is a lovely stop for lunch on the way to Atlanta or a late evening bite on the way home. And the fact that the building was literally moved here from Ireland gives it some serious Euro street cred.
But the food has just never been all that good during the times we've dined here, and the prices are high for mediocre food.
Stop here for a pint in a festive atmosphere, but I'd skip the food until the restaurant decides it wants to serve a meal befitting its fine location within the resort.
