Wow, oh wow! Â My husband and I stopped here for lunch on the recommendation of the ladies at The Purple Frog quilt shop, and we were so glad we did!
This is the kind of café that we love: locally owned, a gathering place for locals, and a welcoming atmosphere.  There are lots of old photos of the Jefferson area on the walls which we enjoyed looking at.  There's also a large blackboard on which Papa leaves messages or quotes which are really fun to read.  My favorite: "Life is not surviving the storm - it's about dancing in the rain!" Â
Husband ordered a chicken salad and I ordered a hamburger, which has been voted by a food critic whose name I can't remember as the best in the state. Â Or area. Â No matter... it was fabulous. Â Cooked to perfection, and loaded with tomatoes, lettuce, onions, and very yummy. Â Husband loved his sammich, too.
There's lots of variety in the menu, and we loved just being there, hanging out, and enjoying our food.
Oh. Â And they make fabulous milkshakes, too! Â I haven't had one in years, and this one was worth waiting for.
There's also outdoor seating on a very pleasant, large lnai. Â It was drizzly and cold when we were there or we would have sat outside.
We talked to Papa on the way out; he and his wife run the café themselves, which really adds to the family atmosphere of the place.  He told us about the history of the place, and that the name of it will be changing soon, to Highway 99 Café I think; unfortunately I lost the piece of paper I'd written it down on.
This was a really fun stop, and we would love to go back if we're ever in the area again. Â Prices are very reasonable, and the food and service are terrific.
