We stopped at Pappy's on the way home from Alabama on Sunday afternoon around 1. I was craving BBQ and the other review sounded promising. When we got there the staff was friendly. The waitress said there was only buffet on Sundays. Then asked of we still wanted the buffet. I was starving by this point and really wanted BBQ. So all you can eat BBQ sounded great!

The buffet included a salad bar, drink and dessert for about $10 a plate. No problem for good BBQ, that's normal.

Here's where it went downhill. The salad bar was chopped iceberg lettuce, cheese, peepers, diced tomatoes and imitation bacon bits. The "buffet" at Pappy's BBQ was your choice of fried chicken strips or ham. No BBQ. The friend green tomatoes were very good and so was the greens but I was so disappointed that a BBQ joint didn't have BBQ. I even had to ask for BBQ sauce. They didn't have it out or in the "buffet".
The waitress fixed out plates for us. It was like a cafeteria line than a buffet. They should change the name to Pappy's Cafeteria. It would be a lot less misleading.

The dessert was ok. Peach cobbler and chocolate cupcakes. Very moist and rich. The also had an ice cream bar (no toppings). The highlight was definitely the fried green tomatoes and the friendly service.

My wife, two daughters, and I took a different route back to St. Louis from Orlando, and that route took us through Burnsville, MS.  We are so glad it did.  Rolling through the town of Burnsville, MS about dinner time on Friday (2012-06-08), we spotted Pappy's Bar B Q & Grill on the left hand side of US 72 and we pulled in.  The building is a nice building as bbq joints go and there was plenty of seating for anywhere from a party of 4 to a party of 16.  The restaurant was busy, but not crowded and we were treated to the southern hospitality that we love, as all of the employees were really friendly and gave us plenty of time to make our dinner decision.

I ordered a half rack of dry ribs and a loaded baked potato (baked potato with butter, chives, cheese, and pulled pork.....I told them to hold the sour creme) and a side of toast.  My ribs were great....no sauce needed.  The baked potato was a meal in itself, and this was one of the few times that I have actually left food on my plate; as the portions were healthy and I was stuffed with great food.

My wife ordered the Jumbo Pulled Pork Sandwich and a side of scattered hashbrowns.  Her pulled pork sandwich was huge and it was the standard pulled pork sandwich with coleslaw on it.  My wife has a somewhat small appetite, and it is at times unusual for her to finish all of her food, but she kept raving about how good the sandwich was and the BBQ Sauce that they had on the table (only 1 choice....it is that good).

My oldest daughter (15) ordered the BBQ Pulled Pork nachos, and was treated to a healthy plate of tortilla chips smothered in pulled pork and nacho cheese sauce.  She liked them and devoured as much as she could, while leaving quite a bit on her plate.....again, just alot of food.  Our youngest daughter (10) ordered a regular pulled pork sandwich without the coleslaw and a baked potato and devoured it and several of my ribs.  So I can attest, that the restaurant is kid approved.

As we looked around, the place was mainly filled with locals that seemed to know each other and the waitresses appeared to know all of the patrons and couldn't keep our glasses filled quick enough and wanted to make sure everything tasted as good as they had implied it would.  It was a great way to keep to our "no chain" rule as we made the 1030 mile trek back to St. Louis.
