Day/time of visit: weekday brunch time
Atmosphere: casual, cozy, rustic
North of Alpena off 23 - rustic cabins on Long Lake and an awesome family-run restaurant. Never stayed at the cabins but the restaurant is a must visit when in the area.
I ordered a club sandwich for lunch and it was awesome - thick slices of buttered and grilled homemade bread with real ham (not the processed slimy lunch meat), turkey, bacon, lettuce, cheese, and tomato = delicious! Everyone else loved their huge breakfast plates too - crispy hash browns, sausage and biscuits, homemade bread, etc. If you are a pancake lover you will be more than packed with a 1/2 order. Solid home-cooking and large portions.
Pictures of the local wildlife are pinned on the pine wood walls, homemade curtains, and checkered tablecloths make for a very authentic northern MI experience. Service can be slow sometimes as it's just the owner and a cook but it's definitely worth the wait.
Oh yes, I will be back! Can't miss this gem when I'm 'Up North' for vaca
Solid food, but be prepared to wait. Â I was here during a holiday with a buddy of mine staying close by. Â
The food was seriously great. Â Nothing insane, B&G, pancakes, eggs, hash browns, the usual, but everything is really good. Â They have cottages for under a hundo which makes it a great get-away spot, but just realize its the only place to eat within 4 solid miles so you may be waiting over an hour for food.
Regardless, I know i'll love eating here again the next time I stay with my buddy up there again.
WOW!! Â Parker House breakfasts are PHENOMENAL!! Â EVERY TIME, and I do mean EVERY TIME, I have time to get out to the Parker House for breakfast NOTHING can stop me!!
A bit out of the way, it is well worth the 20-25 minute drive from Alpena. Â The restaurant's a stone's throw from the lake, so DEFINITELY take the opportunity to dip your toes in the lake.
Now to the food. Â Have I mentioned that the breakfasts are PHENOMENAL!?!?!? Â In the three times I've made the pilgrimage everyone in the group has walked away VERY satisfied and VERY stuffed!! Â Needless to say the portions are REALLY good-sized!!
I've had the manhole-sized pancakes in both the regular and blueberry variations. Â My ONLY advice - go with the "short-stack" so you have room for the rest of your meal. Â YUUUUUUMMYYYYYY!!
This last go-around I had the kielbasa wth my over-easy eggs, American fries, made-daily whole wheat toast...YUUUUUUMMYYYYYY!!!!!! Â The kelbasa was unanimously the favorite meat!! Â Forgot to ask if it was locally made, so PLEASE post a response if it is.
Another in our party had the Eggs "Bennies", aka Eggs Benedict, with the homemade hollandaise sauce...a definite winner!!
Trust me when I say - you WON'T be disappointed with your meal and experience.
U.P. MICHIGAN ROCKS!!!!!!
