We've been here 2x, we pretty much go anytime we are in the Johnson City/Blanco area. This last time we went after swimming in the Pedernales Falls State Park. I love their beer, the Screw Loose Blonde is delicious! I love the pizza as well, and the only reason I am not giving this place a 5th star is because they are very light with the toppings. They use quality ingredients, but each slice literally had 1 slice of mushroom on it. That was a little disappointing, but the cheese and crust are great and we'll keep coming anytime we are in the area.

Everything we had was very good.  The pizza crust was very crispy, but that's how I like it.  The Belgian Pale ale was excellent.   We had the flatbread and red pepper hummus as an appetizer and it was also delicious.  I can't think of a bad thing to say about our experience here.

Just needed some food, but WOW it was really good.  I was very happy.  I had the portabella fries and the pulled pork.....perfect combo!  Beer was good too. Music was a bit loud, but we stayed inside so it was no bother.

I'm between a Yay! and a Woohoo!, but I'll lean Woohoo! since this place has taken a few beatings, ratings-wise.

We were hungry when we happened to be near Johnson City, so we asked Yelp. (Thanks again, Yelpers!)

The food is the most important thing to me: I had the Pecan Street Pecan Sweet Chicken, which besides being a mouthful seemed to be an interesting twist on a southern 'classic'. The chicken's saltiness with the sweet honey and the nutty pecans combined in a delightful way that put me in mind of a high-end chicken-and-waffles experience. One of my dining companions had the Chipotle Marinated Grilled Chicken Breast, which was juicy with a nice grilled flavor, running up to, but not crossing the 'too spicy' line. Sides were also fresh-tasting, with the green beans being the standout. I wanted to try a beer, but asked for a Texas wine pairing recommendation instead.

Pecan Streeet Brewing may be trying to be too many things to too many people (a restaurant, a pizza joint, a burger joint, a bar, and a live music venue), but hopefully they can be all the things. (That said, I think the buzz is getting around; we had an early dinner, and folks were waiting for tables when we were leaving.)

Side note: when I visited, there was a sign posted on the door recommending other local establishments to patron if Pecan Street were closed. That little gesture spoke volumes to me, and helps justify their full five stars. Keep doing good work, y'all.

The food was awesome... everything was fresh, the whole family enjoyed their  meal. Wait staff was very nice, helped us decide on a wine.  This place even brews their own beer!  You must check it out if you live here, visiting  or just passing through.  I will definitely be back..

Really enjoyed our spontaneous visit to Pecan Street. The pizza was excellent and we got to meet the owners, who were extremely kind and welcoming. Obviously the beer selection was extensive and respectable, but I'm not much of a beer drinker...so you'll need to consult elsewhere for more details!

Great beer and good food! The atmosphere is very fun and lively. Try the Wednesday pizza special! Live music most weekends and hearty breakfasts on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

Service was horrible, staff stood around talking with no regard for customers.  Then after waiting for food for over an hour, the staff started sitting down in restaurant eating themselves.  Once we did get our food, it was cold and some not exactly what we had ordered and when we asked we were told this is how they made it, but would take it back i guess i can.  This place is a complete disaster.

I've been here multiple times and have never had a bad server.
If you are out that way, it is definitely worth stopping in.

I usually get a hamburger or pizza, but everything is excellent.
I do wish they would bring back the pretzel appetizer though.

All of their beers are good too.

We stopped by here one evening after looking at the Johnson City Lights for Christmas. The brewery has a good selection of beers and the food is OK pub food. I got the lamb burger, which they char and it tasted good going down. We also got the chips and salsa. We also ordered a pizza but the bottom smelled like it was on a dirty pan, it smelled like someone had just cleaned it with dirty steel wool. They also had live music in the other room. The service is nice and friendly, it can get busy and it might be a wait sometimes. Worth a stop for the micro brewery, the food is OK pub food, and it's definitely busy during the holidays, we waited almost 30 minutes while there were tables openly available but it was just very busy. Definitely a decent establishment in Johnson City.

On a Christmas lights tour through Johnson City, we stopped here to have drinks and an early dinner.  After being seated, our server. a cute shapely blonde, came over to our table promptly.

Server:  Have you all decided on drinks?
Hubby:  Yes.  I'll have the Beer Flight but I've not decided on a fourth choice.
Server:  I think you should try the blonde.
Me:  Hey!  You are making this suggestion in front of his wife!!

Okay.  Very funny.  And he did try the Screw Loose Blonde Ale along with the Holiday Ale, Porter and Jackalope Brown Ale.  I had a fine glass of Armadillos Leap wine, a Tempranillo created in Stonewall at Perdernales Cellars.  Delicious.  We also enjoyed cold, crisp salads and bowls of the Duck Gumbo.

Pecan Street Brewing is right across the street from the Johnson County Courthouse which is ablaze with millions of tiny lights during Christmas.  Service is great but it does get packed during "Lights Spectacular" so go early in the evening.

This place rakes in the $$$ during the lights festival because it is just across the street from the courthouse. Arrived at 5.15pm Sat and was told 45min wait. Fine. Finally got seated at 6p and we immediately ordered 2 burgers, 2 hot dogs and chicken tenders. Easy and quick right? Only it took them 60 minutes to get us the food. Burger was $10 and had absolutely no flavor, decorated with a few measly straws of soggy fries. Hot dog was burnt and too salty, soggy buns dripping with oil. Only thing they got right was the chicken tenders, I guess dipping it in boiling oil was within their capabilities.

This place overflows with out-of-towners who don't know any better. They mill around for 1 hour hoping for decent small-town grub. Read this and be warned - stay away, it is NOT worth 1hr 45mins of your time!

I was so stinking excited when we walked into this place--beautiful, thoughtful, meticulous decor, view of the brewery, gorgeous bar and great beer! My brother and I had a beer while we waited for our large table to be ready and were so stoked, we were deciding if we wanted a Pecan Street tshirt or growler! Our enthusiasm quickly diminished. It was a Sunday night, obviously this is their peek season and I haven't been so frustrated with a restaurant EVER. I woke up and my mind was still burning from my experience.

Our waitress was rude and short from jump start. We were also informed that 2 of the items (on an already limited menu) weren't available which made my dad very sad! So we made do, ordered what looked OK and waited almost TWO hours. Our food was cold. Not kind of room temp... COLD. I was really hoping for some chicken wings since this was a cool brewery in the middle of texas, but the apps offered are a choice between chips and salsa or hummus (why?). This ended up being the least of our problems. My Texas chili was the consistency of canned dog food (dont ask how i know) and cold... I left starving. My mom, both sisters and my dad were also left hungry because their food couldn't even be choked down. And let me tell you guys, we are just normal folks. We all come from the food industry and customer service, so we wanted to make sure we felt strongly about our experience before asking to speak to a manager. But by this time, it was just inexcusable. The manager came over after about a 10 minute wait, curt, rude, utterly unapologetic and ended our conversation with his back to us as he walked off. We asked to speak to him again when our order was still coming back wrong and a plate had been forgotten. No apologies, no customer service, no saving face--he compted our entire tab.

Sure this was nice, but not the point. We didn't want a free meal, we wanted a NICE DINNER. We had them run a modified ticket so we could at least pay a portion of our tab. The waitress wrote us a handwritten ticket and told us we would have to pay with cash because they couldn't reconcile it until the end of the night. All of us having worked at restaurants (even with their specific operating system) knew this wasn't true. Without going as far to make an assumption of why this happened, let's just say it was shady and it made me very sad.

You couldn't pay me to go back here and I am so glad I didn't get a tshirt since I want to forget this place even exists.

PS: We had to keep getting our beer from the bar DURING our dinner because our service was so slow, inattentive and plain ridiculous.

Great beer, delicious food,  good service, slow and confused kitchen, the worst pizza I have ever ordered.  They need to get a clue on how to make a decent pizza --- they've been terrible since they first opened, so it looks like they're pretty satisfied with their strange and cardboardy recipe.  You can woodfire it all you want, it still sucks.  I'll be back --- I just won't order pizza.

I would give this place five stars on the pomegranate salad alone! The only reason this place lost one star is because I feel like the service is a tiny bit slow and also because I wasn't impressed with all of the beers. We've been a few times though and it really is a good place to come if you're in Johnson City.

I stopped in Johnson city to see the lights and went in to get some local beer. I lived here for over a year and as I've seen in other reviews there's a couple of really busy weekends a year, they should of known that since they were fairly new during the last lighting ceremony.  In any case, as I stood there, cash in hand, several moments of eye contact from the bartender ( not to mention the five people served before me that obviously came in after me) I watched the manager finish his second beer.  Never mind the fact I was still in line, the same one I had been standing in for quite some time, only to get a blatant "no" from the bartender without any semblance of an apology when I asked if they were still serving. There's no excuse for that type of service and I have very little patience for that kind of unprofessional behavior.

We stopped into Pecan Street Brewing while making the drive from San Antonio back to Omaha.  We were actually prepared to get some fast food but after stopping in a winery in Johnson City, we were informed of this place and I'm glad that we were.  This place may have had the best food out of all the places that I went on my trip and I only ordered the BLT with potato chips.  The BLT had a thick-cut bacon, lettuce, tomato, avocado, alfalfa sprouts, sliced cucumber, and a pesto mayonnaise.  My wife ordered the chicken fried chicken with a pecan butter honey sauce.  The breading had just enough crunch and seasoning.  It was the best BLT I ever had the best chicken friend chicken that she's ever had.

As for the beer, I only tried the Tilting at Windmills which was alright but didn't really stand out as being anything exceptional though I believe the alcohol content was around 8.5%.  Either way, I would definitely recommend this place to anyone in the area (and by area, I mean 2-3 hours).  I can only hope that I'll find myself in Johnson City in the future so I can try some of the other dishes on the menu.  Do yourself a favor and give it a try.

We stopped in the Pecan Street Cafe looking for something different to eat.
Boy did we get it. My Husband and Son had the pork chops tough as shoe leather. baked potato had to be sent back so hard could not be eaten. I had the fish plate. It was something you get from a box at HEB. The waitress even told us that the cook the food to almost done then heat it up when it is ordered. Would have been nice to know this before we ordered the food. So we could have gone somewhere else.
Needless to say we will not be going back.   9/28/2012

By far, the best restaurant option in Johnson City.   The homemade salsa has a great flavor without being overwhelmed by the heat.   I was quite impressed with the pizza.  There was a perfect balance between sauce and cheese.  The ingredients were high quality and the crust had a slight taste of olive oil, which bumped it up to one of the better wood-fired pizzas I've had in a long time.

Here's hoping that Johnson City recognizes and supports this establishment!

I don't know of any other place like this in Hill Country.  It is a real deal destination brew pub.  What a treat!  I had their six flights of sampler beers and it was fantastic.  These folks really know how to brew.  I have now been twice and both times were excellent.

The wood-fired pizza is also quite good.  Better than many of the pizza places in Austin (Not better than House, but better than Salvation).  They also make a very inexpensive pita chip and humus plate.  The pita is wood-fired as well!

The food might have trouble in the highly competitive Austin food scene, but for it's location, Pecan Street is the place to stop on any trip out to Hill Country.  I would make the trip just for the beer, pizza, and atmosphere.

Finally, they have a nice patio in the back with retro coco-cola chairs.  You can bring your dogs back there and they will accommodate them with a bowl of water.

Our party of five sat at the bar on a lazy Sunday late afternoon.  There weren't a lot of people inside.  The barstaff was attentive.  The barmaid also offered us water in addition to the beers we ordered.  I really appreciated that.

The beers were pretty cheap compared to Austin places.  The County Jail Pale Ale I had was only $3.50.

There were some TVs on the walls showing sports.  The staff was laidback and the whole restaurant was relaxing to be in.  I liked the decoration of the Munich, Belgium, Portland streetpole.

    The food menu looked interesting.

I would definitely stop by here again.

Pecan Street Brewing is located a block behind Main Street/290.  It is within walking distance of the Lyndon B. Johnson National Park.  It is across the street from some official building like the City Hall or County Courthouse.

Good food and friendly apologetic waitstaff can't conceal the disarray in the kitchen. I count 6 waitstaff for 24 diners and 1 cook. Less waitstaff and more kitchen staff might help.  We'll be back But we sure wish they'd fix this persistent issue. The chef made it right by introducing himself and comp'ing our desserts.

We've been coming here since they opened and have always enjoyed the wood fired pizza's and the micro brews both of which they do a really good job on. The historical setting in downtown Johnson City is great and the interior has a fairly good vibe. That said, if they don't do something about the service then we won't be coming back. Stopped in for a Sunday morning brunch before the Texas Wine Trail and it took us almost 2 hours to be served, pay the bill and get out the door. When the food was finally served it was good but in the meantime I'd been through two Red Eye beers (served in tiny glasses) and I just wanted to wolf down my food and get out the door. I can only hope they read these reviews and make some changes. To lose this place would be truly unfortunate.

While working in Austin I thought I would take a weekend drive out into Hill County during wild flower season. I have to be honest...why? It was fairly uninspiring and I found myself mostly annoyed. But now I know I'm not moving to hill country.

Hungry, I stopped in Johnson City and asked where to eat. I went in support of the new player in town. Overall, it was satisfying. I am not a beer drinker, but enjoyed their Brown Ale. It was nutty and refreshing. The ceaser salad was basic and a bit overdressed for my taste, but the mediterranean style pizza was fresh and had good flavor. All in all it was a hair better than average.

What a disappointment.  Traveling thru Johnson City and decided to give the locals our business.  What a mistake.  Waited almost 40 minutes for lunch.  (the place was half empty).  The food was not worth the wait.  The panini was missing the lettuce, basil, and dressing.  Had a little string of proscuitto ,was small and not very crispy.  The fish sandwich was just like what you''d get at a fast food place.  We asked to speak to the chef/owner and he did not come out.  Don't waste your time or money.

The pizza is great the first time we were here so we made a trip back and low and behold they were out of their best selling beer on a Saturday evening at 7 PM.  Now who wants pizza with water which was our only other choice or Coca Cola??   They need to quit being "beer snobs" and put in some domestic beers as a back up since they seem unable to keep up with demand on their home brew.  We drove a long way to have a nice evening and were disappointed and left to go to another restaurant that offered cold beer along with their food.  Come On Pecan Street Brewing...or take "Brewing" out of your name.

We visited the Thurs before Xmas, when we came to town to see all the lights.  The place was hopping.  We sat at the bar because and were there to try the beer :)  We had noticed they were not open very late and after this visit will make it a point to return for dinner.  The sampler was $5 for 4 samples and $3.50 pint...very reasonable pint pricing.  We asked to look at a menu and the brick oven pizzas looked intriguing.  Their nightly specials looked good-a Philly Steak Pizza for $14.95 and Portabello Fries with chipolte ranch dipping sauce for $3.95. We just could not resist and ordered the incredible Portabellos! Menu prices seemed very reasonable

Staff was friendly and we were addressed fairly quickly for how busy the place was with the Holiday Lights and all. Before we left, the owners stopped to speak with us and introduced us to the son-the brewer.  They have a huge TV in the back room-maybe a great place to spend the Superbowl????

Fairly typical at best. At worst, you could be waiting for 2+ hours on a busy night. And by "busy night" i mean a small wait, which apparently completely shuts the restaurant into a maelstrom of ineptitude.

None of the food was bad, but stepping into a culinary region you aren't adept at will result in something I send back. Why is this place trying to be a brew pub, pizza, texas comfort, german beir hall combo? None are that great, stick with one freakin' cuisine and nail it.  The menu is all over the place, and not one dish was notable.

They did a horribly shitty job on a semi-busy Saturday night.
This place probably has 2-3 busy weekends a year-Train for it! Have the kitchen ready, management should also get some experience in a real kitchen too. A 1.5 hour wait on a pizza is ridiculous, and blaming it on a large party (which i assume was a planned event, so you should have staffed up) is poor business acumen. At least have the balls apologize and bring SOMETHING besides letting us chew on our napkins.

We weren't the only pissed off people there- so Laura K must have been high on the Christmas Magic in the air.

    Amazing Service!
We came during the Christmas lights spectacular. The entire town was packed with people looking at the lights and then wanting to eat. We had a party of 15, seven of which were kids. They got us seated after an amazingly short wait - got the kids appetizers lightening fast. The kitchen was backed up  - which they told us up front, but they still got everything out in a reasonable amount of time. They even brought out complementary soup when the food was going to be a little late.
We loved the food and the beer.

On our way back from Stonewall tasting at a few wineries we happened upon Pecan Street Brewing en route to Austin.

The restaurant is family friendly with a large bar and a large area for table seating. There are several flat screens that were showing the football games on a Sunday evening.  If you sit at the bar you will get a great view of the tanks they brew in.

Pecan Street only sells Texas wines and beer and 4 of the beers they brew.  I tasted the Ten Penny Nail and Judge & Jury Stout.  The Ten Penny was a nice toasty amber ale. I LOVED the Judge and Jury which is a thick nutty stout that I would say rivals 512 Pecan Porter (my beer of choice). Unfortunately they do not sell by the bottle nor outside the restaurant/brewery but they do sell growlers to go.

The food menu mostly consists of burgers (to include lamb), salads and pizza. I ordered the pomegranate salad served with slivered almonds, cranberries, red onion goat cheese on a bed of spinach and a side of pomegranate dressing. The salad consisted of delicious flavors and the greens were fresh.  I had a bite of the "Old Fashioned" burger and a few fries.  The burger was decent and the fries were awesome!

Kevin, the bartender, was great, he informed us about cool events in the area and was sweet enough to offer us rice krispie treats and candy canes on our way out.

Two things tickled me about this place.  One was that in the back of the bathroom stalls are made of chalk board to leave your not so permanent mark.  The other is that it is located in the square, so walking outside between Thanksgiving and Christmas you will be greeted with Christmas songs and beautiful Christmas lights on the courthouse grounds.

Everything about Pecan Street is what you would expect from a small town, simply awesome!! Friendly and attentive wait staff and bartenders, excellent food, and a wide selection, burgers, pizza, and many other seasonal dishes.  Now the beer, well, it's awesome.  Try the sampler to get a good idea of which one you like best.  3rd Friday is the classic car cruise in, which is loads of fun, but you may have to wait a few minutes for a table.

Stopped here after a day trip in the Hill Country.  Hubby was super excited to find a brewpub in Johnson City.  He had two different kind of beers (a pale ale and a wit) and really enjoyed both.  We split the bacon & blue burger, which was very tasty.  I hope this place makes it because it will be easy to convince my hubby to go to Johnson City with me if he can get beers here.  Nice addition to the area and we will stop in again.

Delicious Wit and Pale Ale on Tap!  A few other local beers also on tap (ie:real ale and jester king)

Nice and relaxed atmosphere. Can't vouch for the food but the fare looks to be burgers, salads, and wood-fired pizza.
