Great atmosphere.  Neat place to stop, but only once.

The food is sub par at best.  Not horrid, but not exactly good either.  About as average as you can get.

The service is poor.   Plan on getting up and asking for coffee refills.  Plan on getting your food cold.  Plan on having to get up and ask for your check.  Plan on waiting for 30 minutes to place your order, even when the place is pretty empty.

Poor service, average food....  The only reason to ogo is to check out all the cool stuff they have on the walls.  Fun place to go if you want to have a little fun, though plan on actually eating somewhere else.

I stop at Peggy Sue's every time I drive through Yermo ... I enjoy the ambience, and the food.  The attached gift shop is fun, with many movie related items.

I was really looking forward to try it on the way to Vegas, but the experience was disappointing.

This place has so much history and definitely can be so much more. Its really dark there and they need to improve the interior, everything looks shabby (yes, I know its 50s diner, still can do some work): dirty floors, restroom hasn't been repaired in decades.

Food: nothing memorable, omelet was dry, thin and fat, pancakes were ok.
Service: not better or worse than in Mcdonald's, I expected it to be much more personable.

This diner is so much fun! We found it by chance from Vegas to California and made it a point to stop in on our way back as well. The staff is friendly, the atmosphere is entirely authentic and the food is great! It is all very reasonably priced and the gift shop is full of fun memorabilia. A must see when on a roadtrip!!

Stopped by here last week on our way back to Calabasas from Vegas. It was so cute, I mean who wouldn't want to experience a 50's diner. Plus there were about 10 signs directing us on how to get there, good advertising. When we arrived there was parking right in the front. We hopped in, got a good table. I ordered the Buddy Holly, it was fantastic! Affordable pricing! Me and my friends really enjoyed the place. Sat down next to Elvis, overall was a good experience and would definitely recommend to anyone going through Yermo. I wasn't able to finish my whole meal so I took it to go. There service is quick and wonderful, the ladies that work there are really nice. And they have the cutest little souvenir shop in the front.

I love Peggy Sue's. Walking in, you'll notice that the walls are completely covered with Marilyn Monroe, Elvis, and The Beatles memorabilia. Album covers, concert posters, autographed portraits, all neatly arranged in a nostalgic mosaic. In fact, the entire left side of the diner is actually a gift shop dedicated to the 50s - be sure to check out their impressive collection before you hop back on the road!

I come here for two reasons: milkshakes and chicken fried steak. Let's start with the sweet stuff. They serve delicious old fashioned ice cream here, which makes for dense, rich, and absolutely delectable milkshakes. M always gets the chocolate, which comes with its leftovers in the metal malt shaker. I go for the milkshake's cousin - the root beer float. Here at Peggy Sue's a parfait glass is piled high with scoops of vanilla ice cream, and they serve the float with extra root beer on the side. It really is the little things that count...

Peggy Sue's is a diner. That means no-frills diner food. But that didn't stop our waitress from smiling to herself when this little Asian girl ordered the Southern-style Trucker's Favorite - chicken fried steak. Crunchy battered and deep-fried steak, thick white country-style gravy, served with cornbread and honey butter. SO GOOD. I recently discovered the breakfast menu which features something even more amazing -- chicken fried steak AND EGGS. It combines two of my favorite comfort foods: chicken fried steak and steak & eggs. Nothing like dipping some of that crispy steak into runny egg yolk to really give me the warm fuzzies... and clog those arteries...

I know most of these reviews are from LA folks driving through the desert either to or from Vegas, so the next time you're in the desert and craving a milkshake, be sure to stop on by. You won't regret it!

You seat yourself at any clean open table. The waitresses are fast and efficient. The food was just okay -the only reason I wanted to go there was because of the theme of the place.

I ordered the BLT with fries and cole slaw. Everything was good except the cole slaw was at room temperature. My husband ordered the bbq beef sandwich with fries and potato salad. The salad was also warm.

Other than that, it was a great pit stop with good sandwiches, good fries, and great service.

We heard a lot of good things about this place, We were impressed! The food was good, nice sized portions! I actually loved the green beans! and I'm very picky about my green beans. We had the peanut butter and banana split pie, Yummy yumm yum! We really enjoyed the atmosphere, and the service was awesome! I loved the salad and the iced tea. We also got to see the Diner-saurs, cool! It was so nice we went  there twice! We will be back there again.

I figured if Huell Howser liked it, I would too. Decided to stop in just to have a chocolate shake and some fries with my wife. To be honest with you, the shake tasted like it was made with ice milk while the french fries were just average, at best. My wife had a root beer float which she said tasted fine but not outstanding. I expected more out of this place. As several others have noted, the layout of the place is just not what one would expect of a 50's joint. It reminded me more of Porky's (the movie). I was also disappointed in the decor and juke boxes. I've got a nicer 50's juke box at home. But the waitresses did a nice job and it is a "happening" I suppose; just not the typical 50's juke joint that I expected.

If it weren't for a conversation in a bar in L.A. with a tourist from Australia, we would have driven right past Peggy Sue's on our way back to Vegas, just as we always do.  It took a visitor from 14,000 miles away to urge us to go.  And what a hoot!!

We seated ourselves in the room just past the counters.  I had no idea just how big Peggy Sue's was until my husband returned from the restroom and explored it on his way back.  So after our turkey sandwiches, which was fresh turkey instead of the usual packaged cold cuts, I did the same.  The sandwiches came with two sides, so I had salad for one of mine and cole slawy.  Nothing special, but not bad, either.  Hubby had a salad, too, and the homemade vegetable beef soup, which was chock full of both.  The service was friendly and efficient, and we ate enough to be able to skip the enticing desserts without much regret.

The gift shop is a step back in time.  I loved looking at all the memorabilia, but I don't need anymore "stuff," to quote George Carlin, so I looked but didn't touch.  The pizza place was cute, too.  But my favorite spot was the Dinosaur Park out back.  I took a few minutes to savor the tranquility as I sat on a stone bench and looked at the cowboy hanging from a rope over the pond.  At first glance, I thought he was real!  The large group of several different species of ducks were very much alive.  For a short time, I forgot I was right next to I-15 with the cars whizzing by, which was helped by the complete absence of children or anyone else while I contemplated my navel.

We're scheduled to make the drive to L.A. again soon, so I know we'll be stopping at Peggy Sue's again - going, coming, or both!

PEGGY SUE'S 50's DINER is the hot spot to eat between Vegas and Barstow. And, this review is based on this I-15 drive area.....

PEGGY SUE'S 50's DINER has excellent service, home cooked foods, good menu selection, lovely 50's music  and a fun outside park and pond in the back.

When tour driving by, even if your not hungry, stop and stretch your legs and walk around and check out the 50's gift shop!

PEGGY SUE'S 50's DINER is rated a perfect 5 STAR that has been there since 1959.

I've always wanted to try this place. This time we actually stopped and gave it a shot. They definitely have the old school vibe going on...your greeted at the front door by Elvis and some other old figures.

I tried the fried chicken plate. ** Caution HOT!HOT!HOT!** It was so much food I couldn't finish my meal. The cornbread that comes with the meal is okay but the chicken itself was really good. Some of the other members of our party ordered breakfast and everything smelled really good. If your like me and have driven past this place time and again then you have to take a chance and try it one day.

Don't forget your free tootsie rolls with your receipt.

We just had lunch here and we really enjoyed the food and establishment. It definitely hit the 50's diner theme on the spot. The staff was nice and there was tons of things to look at. The cheese burger, curly fries and turkey homemade soup was delicious! I also had a chocolate shake that was to die for. This will be the must stop to eat place on my way to Vegas from now on.

It irks me that Yelp doesn't do 1/2 stars, because I'd go 3 1/2 here based on my one and only visit.

I drive to Vegas every couple of months, always pass this place but I never stop because I usually eat my fill in Barstow. Decided to finally change that and give this old-school roadside attraction a gander. Plus, they have a "diner-saur" park, and I will stop at anything with dinosaurs. Well, anything except that creepy motel off the 15 with a ghetto dino that's been tagged with spray paint.

The door is a giant jukebox. It looks pretty sweet.

Inside, there's eating to the right, and a gift shop/time warp to the left. Most of what they sell in there is merch related to James Dean, Bettie Boop, The Beatles... basically any cornerstone of nostalgia is represented and sold in some way. They also have tons and tons of candy.

The eatery side is huge. It looks small from the front, but being led to our table I was surprised at how expansive it is. It has the look of a place that started off small and then kept building larger sections onto the existing structure. We got seated in the back in a room replete with vintage icons, the walls absolutely plastered with old posters, photographs, life-sized cutouts of stars, and paintings. Overloaded? Sure, but it also reminded me of my room growing up, except mine was all horror movie posters and heavy metal magazine pullouts.

I felt like eating at a diner meant I should get some good ol' diner food, so I opted for the meatloaf. Traditionally, this is a hard one to fuck up. It also came with some mashed potatoes, a heaping side of green beans and moist, spongy cornbread.

The meatloaf shocked me by almost tasting like my mom's recipe, sans the viscous brown gravy which totally slathered the loaf. I scraped it off; not much of a gravy guy.

Mashed potatoes were inedible, sadly. Seems they used instant mash mix with water. Yes, water. Thus ensuring they will taste like watery, processed "food". Bummer.

Green beans were canned, but still pretty good. A fresh green been would've really helped the plate out, but we're also in Yermo here.

The small cornbread muffin they served me rocked. Pillowy and delicious, it also comes with a small side of butter and some honey, which I suggest you combine and dip into like a total fatty.

Before we left, I had to go out back to see the dinosaur park. Yea, it's basically there for the kids. An odd scene they showcase features a small island populated by a dinosaur, a pirate hanging from a rope, and a zombie crawling its way out of the ground. Reminded me of the weird shit they have at the Robotic Dinosaur Exhibit on the road home from Palm Springs, only far less impressive.

tl;dr - This venerable roadside attraction has some good eats and plenty of retro eye candy, making it worth your while to stop in and have a bite.

This place is obviously more of a novelty than a foodie destination. I liked the feel and ambiance of it but I didn't like how it was laid out. It's sectioned off into three areas so from where you sit, you won't get to see all the wall-plastered pictures and memorabilia unless you awkwardly walk around. You can't even do that either because the inside is so tiny! I went on a Friday noon and it was crowded. You have people getting up to pay and waitresses with their hands full walking around with plates. Lots of bumping into people and saying/hearing excuse me's. I'm petite and even I felt claustrophobic in there. It's better if they remodeled to make the gift shop smaller and dining room roomier.

I didn't expect the food to knock my socks off and it really didn't. Granted, I only had the hamburger combo and sausage breakfast combo and not the more exciting dishes. But still everything was bland and tasted store-bought/microwaved.

Service was super good! Our waitress was really nice and accommodating. There was a misunderstanding with the bill and I was met with attitude at the counter. That lady was rude but everyone else was nice.

The store to the left was neat. It's an ice cream parlor/candy shoppe/gift shop combined into one. That and the dinosaur park/pond out back were fun end caps to the visit.

Since the food wasn't good, I probably won't be returning again. Once is enough to experience what they have to offer.

I've driven out to Vegas at least a dozen times, and always see signs for this place but have never stopped in.  I am usually the driver out to Vegas, but last time I was passenger and noticed dinosaurs and such out back.  I told my boyfriend, next time we NEED to stop there instead of our usual spot in Barstow.  From the front painted like a Juke Box to all the paraphernalia inside, I was instantly hooked.  It took a few minutes to be seated, which was fine because it gave us plenty of time to browse the gift shop.  Lots of things all sectioned and grouped together.  I am a huge fan of salt and pepper shakers, and they had tons of cute ones!

It wasn't until we were seated that I realized how huge this place is inside!  We had a nice comfy booth near a door.  The menu has a wide variety, all with cleaver names.  I ordered the Tina Turner Tuna with coleslaw and a salad.  The salad was fine, drenched in dressing so I should have asked for it on the side.  The tuna was very tasty.  The perfect amount of mayo, onion and celery.  And the coleslaw was just the way I like it.  However my only complaint were a bunch of little flies!  I think they were coming in from the door we were by.  But every few minutes I would be bombarded by little flies.  One even landed in my sandwich, but the tuna was so delicious it didn't stop me.  I just picked off the contaminated area.

When we finished our meal, our waitress asked if we wanted our drinks to go. Which I thought was so nice and thoughtful.  She brought us two huge Styrofoam to go cups for the rest of our drive.

On the way out we checked out the back where the dinosaurs were.  They even do a lot of weddings back there.  Nice pond sfull of turtles, ducks and fish with little bridges.  As well as cool statues of King Kong, and some dinosaurs.  Kind of cheesy, but if I was 10 years old again, I'm sure it would be the coolest thing ever.  We went on Easter, and there were a bunch of kids running around doing an Easter Egg hunt, which was cute.

I would definitely stop here again next trip to Las Vegas.

YUK! I was NOT impressed with this place at all!  Hubby order scramble eggs & bacon his eggs tasted like powder eggs with some type of paste in them.  I tried them after he complained and I spit them out in a napkin.  It was DISGUSTING!  This place is dirty and the service was EH!

A definite NOT on the food places to eat too & from Vegas

If you're really hungry or need a break on your drive to/from Vegas, this is a decent spot. It's definitely a tourist trap, but at least it's somewhat entertaining with their dinosaur garden, gift shop, and memorabilia. The food is average, at best.

I love this place! Its a must on your way to vegas. Its kind of one of the only food stops along the way thats not a large chain restaurant. Inside is full of authentic old n days items. For sale and for just decorations. They have a large amount of celebrities who eat there.

Food taste good, i have not tried everything obviously but, what i have had was delicious, the food and desserts are not over priced.

The outside back yard, is fun and you must give it a look if you eat here.!

Not sure what's the big whoop whoop about this place. It just seems like a rest stop for truckers and a touristy eatery for people who has never been to a 50's diner. The interior was, of course, decked out in black and white photos, random Americana statues and paintings. It's quite cool to look at all the tidbits.

I wasn't feeling for food at the time we stopped, so I ordered a strawberry milk shake which is one of things that this place is known for. I'd definitely confirm that milk shake was nice and thick, just the way a 50's diner should have it but it didn't seem anything out of the ordinary that I couldn't get at Ruby's or the 50's Cafe in Los Angeles. My friend got the malt and oh lord, it was SUPER sweet! She ordered the pineapple malt but it really tasted like 100 whopper balls with a splash of pineapple.  FYI people be prepared when you get the malts here, you gotta love your whoppers.

If you're on your way to Vegas - stop here.  Comon, where else are you going to stop?  I mean, stop at the UFO jerky place, that's hilarious but jerky isn't gonna cut it when you really need a meal.  We all know this road doesn't have a lot of amazing food choices.  Go to Peggy Sue's for the novelty of it.  It's got weird and random decor and really feels like an authentic diner.  The gift shop is really cute too.
The service isn't anything exceptional - but the ladies who work here are all middle-aged so they don't have time for your lolly-gagging around trying to decide if you want cheese on your burger because they have other tables to serve.  Plus, they've been there 20 years, they don't care.

The food is fine.  It's pretty much exactly what you would expect from a diner.  It's not gourmet but it gets the job done.  My husband ordered a milkshake and I remember that being pretty darn good.  So it's easy to see why this place is so darn popular.

How many times you've been driving to Los angeles and said..how the hell does that spot in the middle of nowhere survives?? Well at least I asked myself that question all the time.until I stopped and realized that the reason was as simple as it was not obvious.. Their food was good.

And when you go here you don't only get food..you get a whole experience...you feel like you just hit 88mph on your delorian and was left right next to marty mcfly's one back in the 60s. Decoration, uniforms, service, pictures and an old school gift shop to the left help you keep your mind in that kinda mood.

Now breakfast is epic ..thats all I can say.. bacon is cooked perfectly, eggs taste good and the portions are generous. Even when its packed the food comes out fast. If you go for the lunch menu , you better be hungry cause those sandwiches are big.

Advice: you must leave some room for the pies..and if you can just order them all because they are all incredible. The pies are home made and the flavor reflects that. God now I want to drive there. True story : every time I come back from California, I stop at Peggy sues, and pick up about 15 pieces of pie for my Vegas friends..they text me and order through texts..yes I am a good friend I guess...

If you want and feel like browsing around, you should go to the backyard.. Its Jurassic park meets Robocop up in there! Metal dinosaurs, little ducks..I mean its so weird that its super awesome.

Next time just stop by and try it. You wont regret it and it will become an instant classic spot . I can almost guarantee it.

Love the atmosphere of this 50s diner. I felt as i was transfer back in the 1950's as i walked into this diner listening to Sam & Dave, looking at the waitress clothing style. Love it.

This place was highly recommended by a co-worker, pretty decent reviews got me excited for lunch.  Boy was I disappointed.  First of all this place is just weird, filled with Americana from the eras, each dining room seems like an badly planned addition, and than they went out back to the pickers shed to find more stuff to pack the place with.

Co-workers and I finally found a dining area with room for our group, we ordered and I realized that the room we were in, the one on the east end felt like it had no insulation so soup was in order with a chicken fried steak for lunch.  The only thing I could say about the soup was it was homemade, otherwise it really lacked flavor profiles.  When the chicken friend steak came out the food was bland, came out of a can and generally not really good at all.  Skip this diner unless you want to be awashed in Americana decor

If you're looking for an old diner, this is the place to stop. The walls are filled with memorabilia and the staff is dressed to match. If you're looking for a cute, fixed-up, new place with gourmet food, this is not the place to stop.

The coleslaw was great, not tangy at all. The curly fries were surprisingly not greasy, and appropriately crispy. I ordered a tuna melt which came on sourdough. Even though they forgot the cheese, it was decent. My husband had a bacon cheeseburger and it appeared to he edible. The chocolate shake was decent, nothing social though.

It looked like their pies might have been the answer to adding on another star or two but we didn't get that far.

Don't expect good food, this place is all about the atmosphere.  As you walk into the main doors a large glass cased Elvis mumbles something at you and one feels transported back in time.  The waitresses still dress in the same uniforms they did in the 50s and there definitely is a 50-esque attitdue and flair they posses.

Nothing really seemed fresh and my chicken-fried steak was super rubbery and knotty.  The gravy tasted like plastic but my coca-cola was good.  I really want to like this place, but our food was horrible.  Super fun waitress who went out of her way to answer a few of our questions.

They have a dinasour park in the back too if you are into that . . . . .

I was told that there was an old 50's style diner somewhere between LA and Vegas that I had to stop at, so once we saw the signs for Peggy Sue's ahead we knew we had to turn off. We'd already eaten lunch but the thought of grabbing a nice big slice of pie drew us in.

We grabbed a booth and quickly ordered a slice of pie each then proceeded to have a laugh at the dozens and dozens of silly signs lining the walls. Peggy Sue's was just what we were looking for, it was tacky, touristy and a tonne of fun. It looks just like I imagined it would, with it's checkerboard tiled floor and neon signs and the booth even had a fun little IQ test game on it. The pies were very nice too. I had Strawberry & Rhubarb and my wife had apple.

One thing I did not expect to see was the massive gift shop. It's jam packed full of all sorts of knick knacks and fun stuff. I picked up a bunch of joke candy for gifts back home (Bacon flavoured toothpaste anyone?) and a Star Wars lunch box, which I always wanted one of when I was a kid.

I wish that we hadn't eaten not long before hitting Peggy Sues (actually, now that I think about it, I just finished eating my lunch as we pulled into the car park!) as I would have liked to have tried some of the food. The burgers looked good, big and greasy!

I must have driven past this place at least 20 times but have never stopped in. I guess it's ok to stop as long as you know that you're pulling into a tourist trap. I don't tend to stop for these things so I can't compare it to other traps, as a diner, it is so-so.

I definitely didn't feel like I was stepping into the 50's walking in, then again, I wasn't around for them so I wouldn't know about that either. The menu had standard burgers and sandwiches, my mushroom burger was ok, on the drier side.

Their dinosaurs, random pond and lawn in the back are cool, a nice setup in middle of the desert. I would stop if you really need to take a leak and eat a snack, otherwise, keep driving.

About to list out everything I ordered for myself. Don't judge me - it was my post EDC meal.

    James Dean fries (w gravy)
    Curly fries
    Fried pickles
Jailhouse Rock chili and corn bread
    John Wayne sandwich (roast beef)
Chicken fried steak with mashed potatoes
    House soup
    Vanilla coke

Yes, I finished all of that. No, I was not impressed by any of it. The coke was probably the best part.

So yea, just keep on drivin'.

I've stopped in at Peggy Sue's on my way back from Lost Wages every time since the day I took the frontage road south of I-15 to avoid a five-mile backup caused by the inspection station at Yermo. [protip: Harvard Road exit] It's loaded with 50s-and-earlier kitsch (later, too), so it's a good decompression between the over-the-top Lights! Noise! Boobies! experience of Las Vegas and living in Los Angeles.

It's a diner, not a serious restaurant,OK? The food is competently prepared and a decent value for the money, especially when you consider that it's six miles west of Bumf*** Egypt so everything needs to be trucked in from Godonlyknows, Nevada.

It's one of the few places left that still serves the classic Chili Size, and if the chili in the Size didn't have beans in it I'd give the place five stars. Are you listening, Peggy Sue?

You have to stop there at least once in your life. It's the law.
