There should be an EMPTY star category for this roach motel. We paid $90 online and reserved this place. We arrived, picked up the key, drove around to the BACK of the restaurant (yes, just like the Bates motel) opened the door and the FIRST thing we spotted was a smashed 3 inch long cockroach in the door-jam. My wife IMMEDIATELY said "we are NOT staying here!"... I concurred. They apologetically kept our money however (hey, $90 can buy a lot of crank!) but quite frankly, I would have paid more to just get away from that rat hole. The upside is that if I am ever on the lamb this would be a great place to hole up. Do yourself a favor, drive into Camp nelson and stay at the resort... more money for sure, but clean and well kept.

Although not as close to everything as other lodges (It's about 14 miles/30 minutes west of alot of the attractions and 2000 ft less in elevation), this lodge is right on Hwy 190 and the surrounding scenery was still beautiful. I felt truly welcome here. The owner remembered my name right from the start and all the staff were friendly and seemed very happy. The room was $80 per night. The mattresses weren't very comfortable but the owner let me check each room until I found a mattress that I felt was the least uncomfortable. The room had Direct TV and the facilities were modern and clean while the view out the back door was fantastic. I enjoyed a nice steak dinner and all the fixin's for supper while watching through the window at the humming birds swarming the feeders out in front of the store/restaurant. The meal was about $25 but there was enough for two people. The next morning, I had a fantastic breakfast before heading out for around $18. Check out my photos at http://www.facebook.com/…

Went up this past week with a buddy and stayed 2 nights.. neat place, right at the edge of the coniferous forest. Rooms were nicely appointed with Directv, and a nice sitting area in the back. Open both doors in the room to get a nice cross breeze!

The restaurant/bar are a gem.. great food. John makes some killer dinners. We enjoyed the sausage pasta Family night immensely. Don't forget the Pierpoint Burger.... wow... excellent, add lettuce and tomato though. Breakfast was also great, as we had eggs/bacon/cowboy potatoes. Coffee was the only thing that they need some help on.

The bar and staff are incredibly friendly. Linda a a great bartender as well as Julie... good pours and an excellent selection of beer and liquor. They have 3 TV's so it's nice to watch a game and enjoy some chow. It's is very rustic and the bar has an awesome view out into the back area.. the sunsets are amazing.

Best thing about this place (and Camp Nelson in general) is that people are genuinely friendly and welcoming... and not superficially, either. They want to actually get to know you and include you in things.. a rare thing for a mountain community.

Camp Nelson is also a great place to base your hiking, etc from.. there are numerous trails just down the road in Camp Nelson, as well as up in the high country near Ponderosa, etc.

oh yeah, if you bring your dog, there are many locals that come in for dinner and let their dogs hang out in the area.. they are all SUPER friendly. But, be careful with pine cones... Barrack, the black lab will not let you do anything but play fetch with it!

    We'll be back for sure!

Man i love pierpoint. One because it's the first sign of life after that windy 30 min drive from the Ville. And two because you can get great little candies (older stuff you don't normally see elsewhere like fake cigarettes - great for the kids lol), beer, ice, marshmallows and anything else you need for a weekend at the cabin. And three they've got some fun country music and drunk old guys any night of the week to give it that real mountain feel in the camp nelson night life. Oh i love pierpoint.
