We haven't had a lot of luck with pizza out at the coast. At least not near Manzanita. Ones that we've tried have cost way too much and tasted like they were reheated frozen pizzas. All of that changed when we went to Pizza Garden. I actually really had to twist Mr. Kupcakes arm to even get him to give Pizza Garden a try because all of our experiences out there have been that bad.
There were a lot of different kinds of pizzas to pick from, but we finally decided on the Seafood deluxe with shrimp. The crust was thin, just like a good pizza crust should be, and cooked up crispy. All the toppings were very fresh and full of flavor. Overall, it was a very flavorful pizza cooked just right.
Since it was our first time there, we only got the pizza. They have a ton of other items on their menu and we plan on going back to check out more. Their desserts are supposed to be delicious. Can't wait to try some of that homemade ice cream.
What a pleasant surprise. I didn't expect too much coming in from the street but the inside was very clean and welcoming. They say all their food and deserts are from scratch and it certainly tasted that way. I had a manicotti special and my wife had a veggie hogie with side salad. We both liked our dishes. Then we had desserts; tiramisu cake and carrot zucchini cake. They were both delicious. They also make their own ice cream and sorbets. They were nice enough to give us a couple of sample scoops. I recommend the butterscotch. Way above what I expected for a pizza restaurant.  Service was spot on. It was a slow Sunday night but I would expect to wait longer when summer season comes. I will be back to try the pizza and enjoy the  lovely deck in the warmer weather.
Review Source:I was surprised to find this on Happy Cow. (Happy Cow is a vegan/veggie app/website for restaurants.)
They have Daiya vegan cheese, super attentive staff, good organic coffee and a nice deck. I'm delighted to have found a place to eat at on the way to and from the coast. Being a vegan and going to the coast can be tricky if you like to eat out, not a lot of options but this is at the top of the list for me.
My husband and I gave Pizza Garden one more chance, a year later from our first review. Â After seeing other reviews, and even vegan ones, we just had to. Â Since we actually WANT to like a place with vegan options!
This time we did NOT order the Kronos (never again!), but a "build your own" with veggies and vegan cheese. Â The vegan cheese was $4 EXTRA for a large pizza, which is excessive in my opinion, especially considering they barely put any on it. Â I could see charging maybe $1 extra maximum (is the dairy cheese they use really that cheap and low quality to be THAT much of a price difference?). Â The jalapenos we added were nice and spicy, and the sauce was good. Â The crust was very dry though, and unimpressive. Â I am increasing my rating to two starts because this time the pizza was at least edible, and the server dude was actually nice and punctual this time. Â However, I would not go back here unless maybe I was with other people who wanted to. Â Sitting outside on the water front is great, and I actually could see going there in the summer and sitting outside with a beer. Â But I would probably pass on the pizza, and there is no other cruelty-free food to choose from. Â If you're gluten free, you have lots of options though.
We've enjoyed Pizza Garden several times in the past on trips to the coast. Â The service has always been a bit slow, but the pizza has been worth it. Â Mother's Day weekend was different, sadly. Â I wonder if the management has changed because the food and service were dismal: we waited over 45 minutes after ordering for our 2 pizzas, despite the fact that the people at an adjacent table who arrived after we ordered received their pizza about 15 minutes before we did (huh?). Â When I mentioned that we were "about to give up" on our food, the waitress said, "We had 18 to-go orders to prepare." Â Apparently to-go takes priority over waiting in-house customers. Â Not good. The family next to us waited even longer and their pizza arrived with no sauce! Â The waiter said, "Sorry, they forgot to put sauce on it." Â The kind customer said, "You mean there's no sauce on it at all?" Â "Yea, I'm really sorry." Â He brought a bowl of sauce for them to dip the pizza in. Â Ha! Â They had waited so long that they didn't want to wait for a re-do on the pizza. Â No offer of discount or a free future pizza was made. Â
As for the quality, it was not nearly as good as past visits. Â The Thai pizza we've ordered in the past was notably bland. Â Even after waiting so long, it was luke-warm. Â At $18.95 for a medium, it was not cheap either. Â Our Hawaiian pizza had tons of sauce on it, but was otherwise passable. Â
Overall, a very disappointing $50 spent - we won't be back.
Okay, we loved it. Â Great pizza, great service, and REAL plants -- that's always a good sign! Â We were disappointed that the patio wasn't set up so we could eat overlooking the river, but it is only April. Jeannie, the owner, invited us to enjoy the outdoor patio anyway and thoughtfully brought our wine to us as we stood at the railing enjoying the view. We had the pesto veggie thin crust pizza and it was perfect: Â flavorful, crisp crust, and perfect 10" size kept us from having too much of a good thing. Â I can see how this place could get crazy busy in the summer.
Review Source:As a long time local, I'll tell you what everyone who lives here already knows: This is terrific pizza, amazing home made ice cream, good beer and wine and a sweet little place to eat, summer or winter. We've never had to wait and Jeannie, the owner, is always both incredibly friendly and extremely professional as is her entire waitstaff. This is simply a fantastic place. How anybody could have a bad experience here, we don't understand. Unless they're cranky and from out of town. That could be it.
Review Source:If you'd like to wait 2 hours for pizza that they tell you will take "about" an hour...order up. She does not equip her drivers with appropriate directions - GPS? Google Maps? Local street knowledge? Â Nor does she apologize for the mis-steps. Â TWO hours and only excuses for a July heatwave (it's August) and a busy restaurant; no apologies, no discount. Nothing: exactly what Pizza Garden gets from us in the future.
And the pizza wasn't even good. Â A room full of starving little kids and tons of pizza leftover. Â
Apparently, I have to give you one star or else I can't post this review.
Sorry Marzano's; will you forgive us?
This is a really awesome place on the river in Nehalem. They have outdoor seating on the deck overlooking the river and indoor seating with a view also, The wait staff are super nice and helpful. I ordered a meatball sandwich for $8.95 which came with a side of veggies. The meatballs and sauce are made at the restaurant and are placed on french bread that is firm on the outside and soft on the inside. This was the best meatball sandwich I have had on the coast so far and you can't beat the view. There was a 25 minute wait for the food, but it was worth it.
Review Source:We are locals and this is a place we go to time and time again. Pizza Garden is the best restaurant in Nehalem, hands down. I know I know, Nehalem isn't that big so you might think that is no big deal but seriously this place would easily compete with city pizza places. The owner, Jeanie, is very energetic and aims to please. They have very interesting flavors of pizza like the Thai peanut and bbq chicken. The pizza garden even has a vegan pizza that is fantastic. Our all time favorite however is the shrimp supreme. Wow, delish.
Jeanie also has many gluten free dishes that rock! (I know, I'm gluten (kinda) free) The gluten free pizza crust is excellent and she usually has a lasagna that is gluten free as well. They hand make almost all their ice creams and all their desserts. Very very good. There is even an excellent view of the Nehalem river and lovely outside dinning in the summer. Do your self a favor and get on by the pizza garden! Highly recommended.
I'm giving them a three, but my husband wanted a four. He loved it. I thought the crust was too doughy and thick. I'm more of a New York style pizza girl I guess. But the flavor was good, and all the ingredients were fresh and tasty. The big plus, they deliver to Manzanita, which we will use again, because almost no other places do! Oh, and pizzas are big. I thought the medium would have qualified as a large by Seattle standards. So a good "feed the whole family option".
Review Source:Wow, what a gem this place is!
While visiting Rockaway my wife commented on an add she saw that mentioned vegan pizza. We agreed to make a point to go home via a route that would take us by the Pizza Garden because we just had to check out a place advertising vegan pizza in Nehalem!
We ordered a veggie pizza with Daiya cheese and marinara. The crust was thin and very tasty. The sauce was tangy, the veggies fresh and the Daiya a tasty treat. We each had a couple of generous slices and had a couple left to wrap up and devour when we got back to Portland. All of it presented by the friendly owner!
Small, but nice selection of beer on tap. Lovely view of the river and we want to make a trip back in summer just to sit on the porch with pizza and beer.
The other night I was finally able to try The Pizza Garden. This was honestly some of the best pizza I have ever had! The crust was fantastic, the toppings were fresh and delicious, and the pizza sauce (Rustico - a blend of traditional sauce and creamy garlic sauce) was simply out of this world! I was equally impressed by the beer on tap - I got the porter, and it was definitely a great choice.
The price was very reasonable too, and the owner is awesome! She was super friendly and provided wonderful service. I can't wait to go back again soon!
The pizza was super yummy - the only thing better than the pizza was the owner Jeanne Wells.
Seeing as we were from out of town we only had credit/debit on us and the 800 lines were down in the area so we couldn't pay our bill. :( Jeanne told us it was ok and to just send her a check as soon as we got home...really???? Sure, she said that she trusted us. We are from Seattle - no one lets you get off that easy in Seattle let alone write a check.
So I am getting ready to send her a check - for more than the $16.50 for the pizza - which is a super duper wonderful price.
The pizza, the resturant, the people are all wonderful here at the Pizza Garden.
Their pizza was SO good. Â They have a huge selection of toppings, which includes vegan cheese and a variety of sauces. Â We made our own with spinach, pistachios (!), Â kalamata olives, roasted garlic, roasted pine nuts, and sun-dried tomatoes. Â The crust was perfect: fluffy, not too crunchy, not at all soggy.
Review Source:I was really impressed that this pizza place had vegan cheese! Â The crust had a great texture and their topping options were both traditional and some more creative ideas. Â I really enjoyed the pizza I got there and they are right along beautiful water ways, so an extra bonus! Â If I am around that part of the coast again, I will be sure to go back.
Review Source:They have gluten free pizza! Â This was a very happy surprise when my husband and I stopped here a couple of years ago. Â It is now a regular must-stop- to eat place when we are on the coast. Â The owners and staff are so friendly. Â My husband isn't a big pizza fan, but it's my addiction, and I couldn't find a fabulous pizza since finding out I can't have wheat. Â We first stopped here because it was the only place in town that was our best chance of not being around seafood (highly allergic), or just fried food, and from the name of Pizza Garden, Â it sounded like they would have fresh ingredients, I thought, "Okay, I can at least have a salad." Â I was ecstatic that I saw on their menu gluten free pizza! Â I ordered one, and my husband ordered the normal wheat crust. Â We ate there for the next 2 nights AND ordered a pizza to go when we were heading home. Â Now all they need is to serve gluten free beer!
Review Source:What a great place, excellent pizza and wonderful service too!  We were staying at the Old Wheeler Hotel a few miles down the road, and did not want to do a "big" dinner thing, left one place in Wheeler due to a 10 minute wait with no water or menus and  so wandered  up the road toward Manzanita and happily found this great spot . My wife thought the crust could have been a tad more crisp, but other than that we loved it.
Review Source:if you want to eat prepared food in nehalem, you have 3 options: Â fried crap at the grocery store (corn dogs less than 12 hours old? Â maybe!), fish and chips or a burger at the cafe, whoda thunk? Â or pizza, at this place.
it should be a no brainer, as long as it's after 4pm and not a wednesday (winter hours). Â their pizza was super good, they have delightful beer on tap, and they were probably the most recently remodeled building in the town when we ate there in mid october.
why is their pizza great? Â medium crust--not pretending to be a deep dish but thick and well cooked enough not to be floppy. Â choice of fresh-made sauces including pesto, creamy garlic, marinara, traditional white sauce (butter/garlic), and my new favorite, a mix of creamy garlic and marinara. Â they claim to make their own sauce and crust fresh daily.
they've got your 5 different cheeses (yay gorgonzola!) and a ton of awesome organic/local toppings. Â in the middle of nowhere? Â yes!
and hey, i ate 3/4ths of a medium pizza with no regrets. Â mmm!
