Pizza King is Decatur's answer to South Florida's Sir Pizza. I have no idea how it happened but about 30 years ago someone in this small town came up with a fantastic recipe and it was part of my childhood.
Back when they first opened, i think the location was on 13th Street and had the Castle Room upstairs. This room alone was enough to get any kid in the joint. From neon paint, black lights and a look that came straight out of a dungeon, it was hands down my favorite place to eat.
As it turns out, all those years in the Castle Room my family was ordering the Royal Feast pizza. This is Pizza King's version of "supreme." Back then I never questioned it although I was strictly a cheese pizza kid.
So now, more than 25 years later, I continue to eat a Royal Feast each time I come to town for a visit. It the best. Only now, there is no black light or neon paint, except for a remaining mural in the entrance of their new location. I'll take it!
