Every once in a while this city girl has to get back to her roots and visit the family in Fairview. Â This weekend I had to go for some Thanksgiving eatin' and when nightfall came around my brother and I were thinkin' about drinkin'. Â We rounded up a few people we knew from high school and had the parents drop us off at PJ's. Â Yes, the parents dropped us off like we were going to a high school football game or something. Â Made me feel so young! hehe
Yes, a bona fide BAR! Â In Fairview! Â To understand why I was so pumped to find out about this place you have to understand how Fairview was when I grew up there. Â I lived on a dirt road. Â Hardee's opened the year I graduated high school and it was the first restaurant in town and the biggest deal EVER. Â It didn't have a red light. Â Only 100 people in my graduating class. Â And everyone knew everyone so you couldn't even try to buy beer or cigarettes underage without your parents knowing about it 5 minutes later. Â It was great and stifling all at once!
This place is in a strip mall and not easy to spot unless you know it is there. Â You walk in and realize how small it is. Â There's a small area up front for a stage, a long L shaped bar down the right side of the room, tables down the left side, and some bigger tables in the back after the bar ends. Â Bathrooms are one seaters as you might imagine but immaculately clean.
They serve beer only which might be its only downfall. Â They even serve food and some of it looked and smelled like solid bar food. Â You can smoke 'em if you got 'em. Â And there was a live band going on as well as Poker Night. Â BTW there's something going on every night - I am going to HAVE to come back for karaoke night Friday. Â The crowd was all ages and I had the distinct experience of feeling like people look sort of familiar and they are staring at me like they know me but I can't quite figure out who they are. Â Kind of fun no? Â And we ran into all kinds of people from high school which was entertaining in and of itself. Â The owner is there - he's the foreign guy with the crazy wavy hair that apparently is in a local band?
If you are in Fairview and need a drink then get yourself to PJ's. Â If you are driving through, stop and check it out. Â Even though it is beer only and it closes at midnight (two HUGE negatives for me!), I still give it 5 stars because it is a REAL BAR in Fairview! Â Love it!!
