We stopped here on the way home from Sisters, after hiking at McDowell Creek Park. Â Despite the positive Yelp reviews, I wasn't expecting much. I figured it would just be another Shari's or Denny's. Â We were pleasantly surprised. Â My grilled Cajun catfish was wonderful, and my wife really enjoyed her chicken cordon bleu. We arrived after dark so we didn't see the view, but they had good wine (Kiona red blend), great food, quick service, and a nice homey atmosphere. Highly recommended.
Review Source:I've never had a meal (breakfast, lunch, or dinner) that has disappointed me. Â Their service is always spot on. Â My coffee never runs out. Â The owner is always present and pleasant. Â I've had steak, scallops, biscuits and gravy, Denver omelet, and much more and I will come back time and time again to try even more of their menu. Â
Also, it has an awesome view of Foster Lake!
Stopped here on the way to Corvallis, based on the Yelp love. I had a very good shrimp Louie salad--sooo happy the lettuce was a nice spring mix w/o frisée, instead of the too typical iceberg.
Hubby had the chicken bacon ranch sandwich, nice fat slices of quality bacon and tomato. Kid had a little cheese pizza with fries. All that and two Grey Goose bloody Mary's and a diet coke for $41.
Obviously a local favorite, great views of the lake across the highway. Definitely recommend.
I grew up in the little town of Sweet Home and always thought of The Point as the "fancy" restaurant in town, as it overlooked the lake. Â As such, I chose to go there when given the choice of places to eat for my own 10th birthday in 1982. Â I remember eating in "The Red Room" in a big "fancy" red booth. (Just a normal vinyl covered booth, but I was 10, remember.) Â I decided that when I had kids, I was going to take them all to eat for their 10th birthday there as well. Â
Fast forward many many years and I ended up having 3 children of my own. Â When my first child turned 10, we drove up from California and celebrated her birthday here at The point restaurant, continuing the tradition. Â As each of my children turned 10, we made the trip up to Sweet Home, Oregon from California and celebrated them turning 10 at The Point. Â
Just this past week, we have finally completed the tradition, as my last child just celebrated being 10 at The Point as well. Â People think we are crazy to travel over 1000 miles to do something like have lunch but it was something that meant a lot to me as a child and it's neat knowing that my children all celebrated turning 10 in the same place that I did as a child. Â The fact that the restaurant is even still there is amazing to me. Â
The location is wonderful, overlooking Foster Lake, where I spent all my summers swimming and cavorting with friends. Â The food was good, I enjoyed an omelet this time but the kids had chicken strip meals and said they were great. Â
I always laugh because I always felt that The Point was a super "fancy" place as a child but in actuality it's not a fancy place at all, just a very nice family atmosphere type restaurant. Â The red "booths" are gone that I remember as a child and have been replaced by all tables. Â There is still the "The Red Room" sign above the area where I ate though. Â
A perfect location for a nice lunch overlooking the lake and I am so glad I was able to continue a tradition that was important to me, started 31 years ago when I turned 10. Â
A big Thank you to the point for their service as well!
I'm still dreaming about the Seafood Pasta....
So I was worried that once I move down to Lebanon for school, that I won't be able to find good food.....but it looks like a short drive to Sweet Home will take care of that! The Point is across the street from the lake, it's nothing fancy, sort of reminded me of an old diner. Service was so-so but we had good company and like I said..my pasta was amazing....
I must have drafted my first review on a bad day. Last night had a nice meal with my soul mate. She had the Cajun catfish, and I had a thick slice of prime rib. We both started with a cup and bowl of chowder. Thick and hearty as I like mine, the chowder was wonderful. On came the entree's and they were well sized for the price and well prepared. I have often complained about my food selections here in this town, I live in a town of less than 10K, and as a foodie that can make your choices limited.
As I stated earlier, I need to come here more often for a real meal. Weekend breakfasts in the summer here are great, as you can sit outside on the patio and enjoy great views of the lake.
Finally we ended the meal with a shared piece of turtle cheesecake doused in Carmel sauce. WINNER!! For a great all American style meal, give The Point a chance the next time in town.
I really liked this place! Â I was in Sweet Home a couple days ago, and a local colleague recommended it to me.
Their special for the day was actually special, unlike most "specials". Â That night it was a bacon-wrapped prime rib topped with garlic mushrooms. Â It was delicious...one of the best steaks I've had away from home in a long time. Â Nice and juicy and cooked exactly to order. Â The garnish was vegetables; they were slightly undercooked but still quite nice.
Another nice touch is when you arrive at your table, they immediately bring you a small loaf of their homemade bread. Â I often don't like to eat too much bread before a nice meal, but I couldn't stay away from this bread. Â It was very tasty. Â The butter they brought was actually ready to spread on it too; not hard as a rock as it often is elsewhere.
I was too full to try their pies but I hear they are delicious. Â Maybe next time.
Oh, and I forgot to mention the view!! Â There is a nice view of Foster Lake from the booths on the north side of the restaurant. Â The only minor nit-pick I have with the Point is their dated decor. Â They could stand to modernize a bit, being the high quality restaurant they are.
This place is great! Their food is really well made and the service is friendly and attentive. Order a beer and it comes in a SUPER cold frosted glass, which I like. We go to the Point a few times a year when visiting from Portland and we always talk about the best ever super cold widmer hefeweizen we get there.
I'm a veggie eater, so I'm a big fan of their veggie burger (with thick cut fries, so awesome), the dried cranberries they put on their salads, and the Shrimp Louie. So good. My meat eating husband swore by the French Dip last time we were in. Oh, and their pies? So delicious.
The Point is a great choice for a meal in the Sweet Home area!
Had lunch here on 8/24/11 and no surprise here- Â Still GREAT! Â Yes, the sour cream raisin pie was and is the BEST! Â Had a BLT and it was good, made with homemade ciabatta-type bread. Â You are paying for a whole lot more here than just a view- Â The view is a thrown in extra! Â The service is consistantly GREAT!
Review Source:I came in here the other day not knowing what to expect, but I was very very pleasantly surprised.
I ordered "The Point Burger" with fries, which was under $8. That's pretty cheap for a burger + fries nowadays. Not only that, but it was gooooood too. This place actually knows how to do a well-done burger.
Then I got apple pie á la mode for dessert, and holy s*** it was some of the best apple pie I've had in a loooong ass time. It was so good, that it was hard to stop eating it after I got full. Did I also mention that it only costs 50 cents to make it á la mode? That is a STEAL.
I saw the website of the Point Restaurant and Sports Lounge, we went and had a wonderful dinner and great drinks from the Lounge.
must check out the website, <a href="/redir?url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.pointsweethome.com&s=6f5b13ddf075047a2622455c2386c5aedd7a244ea70a01a12d7cc0cced70034c" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">http://www.pointsweethom…</a>
Service is unbelievable. Â Under new ownership a couple months back and even better than it was 20 years ago now! Â New happy hour and appetizer menu which was very impressive in their new sports bar. Â Had such a nice time last night with about 20 friends in there. Â They were so accommodating I can't believe it after living in the big city for the past 20 years. Â Great lake view. Â Great owner. Â Great waitress. Â We were well taken care of and I can't wait to get another get together organized there in the next couple of weeks. Â It is THE only decent dining experience in Sweet Home!
Review Source:The Point Restaurant is the most amazing place for breakfast. It's hidden deep in Oregon, in what used to be an old logging town.
Fortunately for my tastebuds my Grandparents call this sweet little town home. Everytime we venture down this way we always make it a point to stop at the Point for a delicious meal. (seriously, no pun intended)
It's always the same, and it's always perfect - in the most delighful, warm, cozy way.
The best bloody mary's of my life - hands down, no competition. I love this place!!
