We have been here twice so far and I really do like this place a lot. Â The food the first time was simply excellent in all respects. Â The decor, the friendly staff and the food and drinks and simply enjoyable. Â This last time I would say food miss the mark a bit from four stars but the drinks were great as the first time and the dessert (cheesecake) make everything end on an incredibly positive note. Â My wife usually isn't a fan of cheesecake but this was so light and fresh and no overdressed with fruit that it drew her in. Â I wish they offered a bit more than sandwiches and while the chips are good I would say offer something made in house instead. Â house made chips, more pickled veggies or something. Â Waitress didn't know her menu but Ithat wasn't a bother except she really didn't know the tap choices which was a bummer because I would have ordered something different now that i see their online tap menu.
Overall, its a great addition to the growing Winter's food scene. Â I don't understand why Putah Creek and Ficelle aren't open more during the week for dinner. Â I beleive there are plenty of adults in Davis looking for places like this more than just on the weekend.
I was looking for a restaurant for lunch in the Winters area. Â Found the preserve in our Sacramento Magazine. Â We met some friends there from out of state.
Had a great lunch, Â my husband had the pulled pork sandwich. Â He said it was awesome. Â I had the pepperoni pizza special. Â It was delicious. Â Service was great too.
I highly recommend this restaurant if you are in the Winters area.
Came into Preserve for some wine, dinner, and some shuffleboard. Â Ordered the charcuterie and cheese platter to share, the beet salad with arugula, and split a pizza and a meatball sandwich. We ordered an Oregon Pinot from King Estate. The cheese selection was all top notch - Humboldt fog, St. Andre triple creme, with prosciutto di parma and salame. The pizza licata was average but the meatballs in the meatball sando were delish and it would be sweet if they offered them as an appy dish with just meatballs and marinara. We finished off the meal with a few specialty cocktails and played a few rounds on the shuffleboard. Preserve delivers on value, quality, and ambiance in Winters.
Review Source:I would agree that the decor is cute here, and one would surmise this means unique and/or tasty food. However, other than the chips that came with the pulled pork sandwich and jalapeño jelly bread, evertang was just too dang dry. Service was moody as well - which is fine, but not ideal.
Review Source:We come last night to celebrate our wedding anniversary and a chance to get out of Davis, and away from midtown Sacramento. Â The place is decorated very hip. Â We were excited right when we walked in...then it went downhill from then. Â The service was marginal at best. Â We waited for 15 minutes until we decided to track down a waitress...ultimately the host asked us if she could get our drink order; however, when we asked about the wine she left for the bartender which took another 5 minutes. Â We tried the salmon appetizer and salad to start...again marginal at best...no flavor. Â Our pork and brisket sandwiches came really quick, probably because they don't do much with their meals other than slap them together... Â One positive note is that we left promptly after dinner and went to Main Street Cellars down the street for drink. Â The place was fantastic. Â Go there for sure, but not Preserve. Â Back to boring but at least consistent Davis food, as well as midtown Sacramento! Â Don't waste the drive to Winters unless you want to be disappointed you did not go to midtown!
Review Source:The decor is very nice and service is great. The food is OK. We ordered the brisket sandwich and it was a bit dry. We also ordered the carrot panini of grated carrots with a bit too much nutmeg. Â The charcuterie platter was fine. Â Great concept, but the menu needs reworking. Â They have a great beer menu.
Review Source:I chose to have my graduation party at The Preserve. Â I loved the atmosphere, food, and cocktail selection. Â Kelsey helped us set everything up and she made it so easy. Â When we got there, everything was ready to go and I was able to spend the entire evening enjoying myself and my guests. Â Everyone at the party raved all evening about the event. Â Doug was our server for the evening and he took care of all of us. Â He did an amazing job. Â I would recommend The Preserve to anyone, whether you are just looking for a relaxing evening out, or planning a great party. Â Thank you to everyone at the Preserve for making my graduation party amazing!!!
Review Source:Went to Winters to get out of Davis. Ended up here because the tapas restaurant in town is only open 3 days a week? Anyway, this place was pretty awesome. Delicious cheese plate and sandwiches, great beer selection and a pretty badass environment/decor/ambiance. Worth the 20 minute drive to quaint Winters.
Review Source:Had dinner here for a friend's birthday - surprisingly nice! Definitely a young and trendy place to eat/enjoy a drink. The seating is definitely a highlight. In combination with the lighting and the unique clipboard menus, the ambiance was relaxed yet hip.
I had the Pizza Licata with the free soda that I got by checking in on Yelp. It was just enough food for me, but given that I don't eat that much, I can see the portion being too light for most.
The waiter split the check 9 ways, which must've been a pain for him, but it was much appreciated. We're definitely stopping by the next time we're passing through or near Winters.
Want for a friends birthday and this place is a whole in the wall of winters! It is such a fun place to go with friends. However, they do a great presentation with their food.
I'd classify their food as traditional American: burgers, grilled cheese, salads, pulled pork etc.
I had the salmon salad and it was plated very eloquently. The salmon as "sushi salmon" in a wasabi vinaigrette. Â Much smaller portion that I thought. It was around $10.
We sat in these tables on the corner which had some mismatched chairs on one side and a cute couch on the other. It was a cute "date night"/ birthday dinner place!
Casual, yet elegant enough for the toughest of all food critics. I felt like it was a "SF/bay area" restaurant. Â Great find in winters! Will be back!
Came here yesterday afternoon for a pre-hike lunch after driving up from the East Bay. During the hike, I realized I really should have had more to drink than beer, but that was my bad (and a testament that the beer is so tasty, you won't drink anything else).
Ordered the one hef they had on tap ($5, we got 2), and it came w/ lemon and was crisp and delicious. My bf ordered the Turkey Grinder ($8), which came w/ shaved cold turkey, pesto, roasted red pepper, pepperjack cheese and some aioli. It was delicious. I ordered the The Pulled Pork ($7), a happy little package of pulled pork, caramelized onions, pickled jalepenos, BBQ sauce, and cabbage on a bun. It was amazing - I never think to put jalapenos on mine, and it was delicious. Sandwiches come with a side of crinkle chips.
The service was first class - I haven't met a server that nice in years (pretty brunette, black glasses)! We had a great time, and loved getting the check in an old paperback. The interior is decidedly urban, without the pretention and sticker shock that comes w/ a lunch in SF.
The only aspects that would bump this place up to 5 stars: More beers on tap (they have about 7), more sides (coleslaw or fries would have rocked), and more chicken sandwich options (my #1 go-to). Everything else was amazing - can't wait to come back and eat on the patio!
I love Winters. I love that the town that was just a tiny lil spec on the way to Lake Berryessa from Davis, is now "up and coming" in the restaurant world.
Preserve is a great place to enjoy drinks while sharing their Artisan Cheeseboard, Charcuterie Selection, or the Preserve Platter - a combination of both.
They have one of those tabletop shuffleboard games that I always forget the rules for. But it's still fun to slide discs around in the fake sand, and you won't take that away from me!
Met up in Vacaville with a contractor we're considering for a landscape project at our house. Â After talking about the project and materials to be used we talked about our mutual liking of beer and microbreweries. Â He recommended Preserve in Winters and since it was a gorgeous Sunday we decided to head out there for lunch.
We arrived about noon and it was fairly empty, maybe 10 other people. Â I loved it immediately. Â There were about 5-6 TVs around the restaurant and one on the patio. Â The bartender turned one of the TVs to the NCAA tournament so, we could watch some hoops along with our lunch.
The beer selection was good. Â About 6-7 beers on tap. Â I choose a Belgian farmhouse ale made by Brewing Lair (I think that's who brewed it) and ordered 2 pizza's for 2 people. Â The beer was awesome and went well with the pizza (4 slices per pizza). Â The pizza had a nice thin and crunchy crust. Â The pizza's were only $11 apiece and along with the beer the lunch before tip came to $38. Â Not bad for 3 beers and 2 pizzas.
A nice eclectic feel to the place. Â There's an old gutted out van on the patio that I seen they were growing herbs in and the waiter told us they pour beers from the taps in the van during events. Â There's a shuffleboard table in the bar the customers can use for free. Â The backside of the bar is decorated with old wine barrel staves. Â The check is placed in an old paperback book, nice touch.
Overall, I'd highly recommend and will go back for lunch or dinner. Â It would be nice if they had a chicken breast sandwich as most of the menu items were pork or beef. Â Chicken would be a nice alternative.
I wish I had the words to accurately describe how delightful my lunch experience at Preserve was. Â The outdoor seating area is truly the perfect place for a light lunch on a sunny afternoon. Â I came with a group of 5 and everyone was impressed with how tasty the food was. Â I personally tried the Brisket Sandwich, Meatball Sandwich, the Red Pepper Soup and the House Cured Salmon Salad and loved it all. Â Everything was deliciously saucy, but not overly salty. Â The portion sizes are on the small side, but every bite is amazing and the prices are reasonable. Â
I went back on a Saturday night a few weeks later, and had a blast with my friends. Â With its shuffleboard table, great selection of beers and cocktails, Preserve is a fun place to be at night. Â I had two K.O.s (a cocktail that comes with a PVC pipe filled with 151) and was quite drunk, though at least I didn't pass out. Â I will count that as a success!
I went on a lunch date here the other day and I was impressed with the place.  I had the pulled pork sandwich.  The pork was pull apart tender, cabbage slaw was crispy, BBQ sauce was sweet and smoky, and the jalapeño slices made it a tad bit spicy without taking away from the flavor of the sandwich.  The ciabatta type bun had a sweet layer on the outside which worked well with the sandwich.
The bar stool was kind of uncomfortable as there was no back or sides (duh it's a barstool) but we did sit at a table and the stools on the other side of the table had backs and sides so that was just a bit odd.
Overall, service was good. Â My water was refilled twice. Â I'd like to come here in the evening sometime and try some of their beers on tap.
On the suggestion of my sister in law, we went there after dinner at the local tapas place, and kinda wish we would have just gone straight there. The place is hipster industrial, and cozy. Big couches to sit and enjoy drinks and conversation, or a cheese and meat platter, which looked yummy, though we did not try, but will next time.
It took a while to get service at the bar, however we did enjoy atmosphere and the complimentary olive tray. Â Had a few drinks, which were fantastic. I highly recommend The General, which is phenomenal. I am not a big whiskey drinker, but this drink was sublime. The 505 margarita was amazing also.
We will absolutely be back. Staff is friendly and mostly helpful, however you almost need to find the right place to sit in order to get optimum service
It's a good place to go if you are in Winters, CA on a Saturday night and looking to have a relaxed night out. Â With ample bar seating and plenty of open seating (tables and boothes) you are guaranteed to melt away stress in this casual atmosphere.
I opted not to drink one of the signature drinks, but instead, the house Chardonnay. I also had a plate of meatballs for dessert. Yes, meatballs. I do this when the desserts on the menu are not to my liking - not because they aren't good, but just because I don't fancy them. The meatballs were very tasty. I've never had banana peppers mixed in with mozzarella. I guess there's a first time for everything!
This place gets, my vote! I would definitely return.
P.S. They also have table shuffleboard. ;)
Fantastic food! The Preserve platter is simply terrific, with a spread of bread, prosciutto, salami, an incredible goat cheese, bread, jalapeño jelly (you have to taste it to appreciate it), and more. We found the place while wine tasting in Winters, and our host recommended it. The next day, we drove all the way back to Winters from Davis for seconds...
Review Source:Wonderful hidden gem in downtown Winters. The goat cheese and beet salad is scrumptious, as well as the pizzas and sandwiches. The menu is always changing so that makes me want to come back and try something new! There is a shuffle board game inside to play while you sip on one of the many brews they serve, or my favorite, the Cucumber Chill :)
Review Source:The restaurant is nicely decorated and I love sitting on the couches and relaxing while I eat and drink the wine I just bought from Berryessa Gap Winery or Turkovich Winery. They actually charge $5 for a corkage fee on local Winters Wine. I'm a huge fan of the extended shuffle board table they have in the back too.
My wife and I love the variety of fresh food and ingredients this place uses to allure us in. The Carrot sandwich is a favorite along with the pulled pork. Make sure to ask about the specials, they always tend to be really good too!
Came here for lunch a few weekends ago with the family. They have a nice selection of sandwiches and paninis, plus the soup was yumy. I really liked the various seating areas they've set up for groups. There is an old school shuffleboard game in one corner, plus a nice outside seating area that wasnt currently in use (too cold). We will definitely be back!
Review Source:After buying a Groupon for 2 sandwiches and beers here a month or so ago, we came home and bought another because the food, service and ambiance were all so great! Preserve's atmosphere is spacious and rustic -- a really comfortable and casual environment that is still quite nice. Both sandwiches I've tried, the grilled carrot and the grilled cheese paninis -- were outstanding. In fact, the grilled carrot was so surprisingly tasty that the person I was with -- a huge brisket fan -- ended up eating the remaining half of my sandwich over the brisket he'd ordered. All in all, a wonderful place to go with friends or for a casual date night.
Review Source:Great sandwiches in a hip rustic decor. Appetizers are inventive and tasty. I went here fore the first time today and was very pleased with the setting, it's not too dim but not bright, there are rustic wood accents with steel and leather.
I ordered the Mr. Rueben which comes on a thick rye with a creamy russian dressing, thick corned beef, cabbage (not sauerkraut) and swiss. The flavor profile was highly savory and the whole sandwich was delicious. Each sandwich comes with homemade thick cut chips and a small gherkin like pickle, also homemade.
My wife had the BBQ Beef Brisket which she couldn't get enough of. It came on a roll with their homemade bbq sauce which is savory and sweet with a smokiness that really knocks the flavor out of the park.
My son and sister had the Meatball Melt and each gobbled up as much as they could (it's big). The meatballs are juicy and well seasoned and the tomato sauce is a tad bit spicy, but very nicely so.
Service was good, the waiter was knowledgable about the drafts they had on tap and wasn't obtrusive but checked in a couple times.
I will be back.
ADDICTED To the Jalapeno Jelly! OMG I love this place. They have the best gourmet sandwichs. I love the pulled pork, grilled cheese and the pizza! The staff is super friendly and on top of things. This place is full of charm and best part they have a cabinet filled with games and shuffle board!
Review Source:I live in davis and this is decidedly the best bar in the area in my opinion. Their food is amazing, cheeses are amazing, beer selection is amazing, furnishings are amazing, the entire place has such as nice aura about it because of the awesome decorating skills. They allow dogs on the patio and their servers are always great. My only complaint would be the mixed drinks which are okay but not as great as they could be, but maybe thats just my fault for getting the wrong ones.
Get the pulled pork, cheese platter, grilled carrot, and a whippersnapper beer from berryessa brewing co.
Overall, I LOVE THIS PLACE!
Went in last Friday night around 6:45pm. Â Watched the SF Giants game while having some great craft brews (Laguntias' "Undercover Ale" and Berryessa Gap's "Whippersnapper") while my girlfriend enjoyed an "old world" Tempranillo flight. Â
Awesome beer selection and some pretty great grilled sandwich selections, along with great appetizer dishes.  I plan on going back this weekend!
Imagine you grew up in Winters, a town 4 miles square, population 6000. As you approach your 20s it occurs to you that your options for drinks out with friends are: JJ's, one of those bars where the windows are blacked out, an Irish Pub, and the Buckhorn, packed to the gills with fancy people.
This is not Midtown. You can't walk 20 feet to the next bar if something is slightly lame. You are, for all intents and purposes, stuck at one of these three places unless you want to drive into Davis and party with the college kids trying their best to overcompensate for the social life they believed they've been robbed of in that lame cow town.
So there's some context, you entitled darlings, you. Preserve is the best thing that happened to Winters nightlife since WWII. There's delicious, delicious cheese and artisan bread and olive plates, great drinks, over the top service, and a great patio. The decor was obviously painstakingly selected. It's a great place to go with friends, and my friend actually had an awesome engagement party there, too, so check with them about hosting events.
From the other Preserve Yelp Page:
This is a great new spot in the bustling downtown of Winters. Â Preserve is a much needed addition to the young Winters scene. Â The atmosphere here is very casual and is perfect for hanging out with friends and family. Â The prices are good for both drinks and food. Â
They have large TV's that are often displaying ESPN or some form of sports though the volume is not generally on. Â I do not remember any music when I was there which was actually kind of nice and allowed people to converse. Â Everyone there was having a great time, laughing, and relaxing. Â
I only see good things for Preserve and highly recommend it to anyone looking for a place to hang out with friends after dinner. Â I can't wait for this summer once they open the patio area.
I think Preserve is definitely a nice addition to the Yolo dining scene. Winters may be the new place to go for delicious food and drinks!
Preserve has a hip atmosphere, with big booth-style banquette seating and high stools made from reclaimed barn wood or some such thing. Service was good, prompt and friendly. There also seemed to be a surprising number of attractive younger people milling about and drinking - are these Winters-ites? I didn't know this small town had such a good supply.
I only have been there once, and it was just for apps and drinks. The drinks were maybe a little pricier than average (I think it was $6-something for a large Blue Moon and $10 for a cocktail), but not bad overall. I tried a pear-flavored cocktail, which had pear vodka, pear nectar, cinnamon, and star anise. Pretty good! Definitely a girly drink.
We also had a meat and cheese plate, which was pricey and a bit sparse but overall very good. Good variety, yummy selections. A little bird told me that the cheeses are from Turkovich's cheese collection - not sure if this is true. The jalapeno jam that came on the cheese plate was amazing, though. Been searching around for something similar since.
I would like to go back to try their sandwiches, about which I've heard raves from friends. Will have to keep the drinks to a minimum, though, or the wallet will be sulking for a few days.
