Kinda dig the place! Always get a good pie when traveling through. We have had a bunch of different toppings and always good. In all fairness, the back could use a thorough cleaning. Like a power washer, new tile and repaint. But the food and subs are all good and seem to gravitate to the PI when wandering through. And no, this is not NY or Chicago. Think it through. Just like comparing Lake wines to NAPA Valley - if you do that your pretty stupid. Way better than the chain place down the hill.
Review Source:Great pizza, but the service on the night we were here was sub par. To be fair, our party of 12 kept the location open about 20 minutes past the close time of 8pm, but the employees kicking rocks up with their tires leaving was a bit much.
Okay, enough of that, the pizza was fantastic. This exact place is where my mother and father met and had dates before I was born, so I guess I gotta thank the place for life. I am happy to see that even in this economy some of the small shops are hanging on, and hope to see this one do the same.
Although it wasn't excellent, it was pretty good pizza. It was just greasy enough, decent sauce, decent amount of cheese, and the right amount of toppings. I picked up my pizza for a takeout order, so I can't say much about the restaurant experience. It is reasonably priced. The breadsticks are like Olive Garden breadsticks, so that's a plus.
I would order their pizza again, but I would have to try it again one more time before I can recommend it to a friend. Overall, it was decent.
My friends and I tried this restaurant because of recommendations from some of the locals, and we were very disappointed. Â The staff is very friendly, but the dining room was atrocious. Â The floors were dirty, and our table was beside an air conditioning intake vent which was COVERED with dust. Â It was disgusting! Â We ordered chicken wings, which came highly recommended in other reviews. Â The interior of my first wing was ICE COLD. Â Ya know what that means? Â You guessed it....they'd obviously been refrigerated/frozen! Â My friend ordered chicken tenders which were dry as a bone and were more breading than chicken. Â The pizza was a big disappointment as well. Â I had read reviews that the pizza was greasy, due to the large amount of cheese. Â I didn't find the pizza greasy at all, but I did find it completely lacking in flavor. Â It was just bland. Â I'm not quite sure where some people draw their comparisons, but I suppose it's a matter of individual taste. Â I would never disuade someone from giving any local establishment a try. Â I love local "mom and pop" type restaurants. Â I had high hopes for this one, but it just missed the mark. Â Sorry! Â :-(
Review Source:I've been going to the Purple Indian for as long as I can remember. This place holds a lot of nostalgia for me, as  I spent countless Friday nights there as a kid, after the football games, drawing on the giant chalkboard and gobbling up pizza. Birthday parties, dinners with friends, and once I was old enough to drive, picking up pizzas and bringing them to parties. For me, going to the Purple Indian is the quintessential small town experience.
That being said, the pizza itself is fantastic. Now I live in NYC, where great pizza can be found on every corner, but nothing compares to the pies served up by PI, with the crust that is deliciously crispy and chewy at the same time. I insist on getting pizza from PI *every* time I make it back to Mt. Gilead. I crave this stuff and look forward to it all year.
