I've been to Purtell's twice. Â On my first visit I ordered the hot turkey sandwich and received a plate COVERED in food. Â You couldn't tell where the mashed potatoes stopped and the turkey sandwich started, with a mound of stuffing wedged somewhere in the middle. Â Purtell's doesn't serve up gourmet anything but the food was still very tasty. Â The mashed potatoes reminded me of the one's they used to serve in the high school cafeteria (which I used to love); I think they may use flakes. Â Either way... Personally, I liked it. Â Couldn't eat all of it but I liked it. Â The service was just okay. Â I would have given it three stars based on that visit alone. Â A-OK!
On my second visit I ordered a BLT and french fries. Â When I saw the waitress coming with our food i thought "HOLY CRAP! Â What is this? Â Another Tony's I-75?" Â That BLT was HUGE. Â The lettuce was more like a wedge rather than some leafs so I took off the lid and removed half of the lettuce. Â I didn't inspect the rest of the sandwich but after two bites I was noticing that it didn't have much of a bacon taste. Â Again, I took off the lid but this time I looked underneath the lettuce and found, sitting atop three slices of tomato, one full slice of bacon and two half slices. Â TWO slices, in total? Â Is that all? Â With all that lettuce and tomato? Â Even the bread was large. Â (By the way... the bread was DELICIOUS. Â Not sure if it was homemade but it was darn good.) Â Â Thinking the rest of the bacon must have migrated to the other side of my sandwich, I took a peek. Â I couldn't believe my eyes! Â TWO HALF-SLICES of bacon on one half of the sandwich. Â What? Â When I asked the waitress if I could please have a little bacon with my BLT I thought for sure she would think I was a liar. Â Who would believe there were only three slices of bacon on that entire GIANT sandwich? Â Well... She believed me because I was told they only put THREE slices on each sandwich. Â If you want more, you have to pay extra. Â :O Â WHAT?! Â After I inquired about the bacon our service seemed to get noticeably cooler, immediately. Â :/ Â Whatever. Â Based on this visit alone, I give Purtell's one star. Â
I'm torn about my overall rating. Â The food is A-OK taste-wise. Â Portion-wise? Â Well... Â It seems like that depends on what you order. Â The service? Â Meh. Â I've experienced better. Â I split the difference and decided to give it two stars. Â Personally, with other places to choose from on our route home from camp... I won't be going back to Purtell's.
Oh! Â Also... Each time we were there we walked in the door and stood there, without being acknowledged by ANYONE, long enough to start getting those should-I-just-stay-here-or-should-I-seat-myself and which-choice-makes-me-look-like-an-idiot feelings. Â So we just sat ourselves.
There is not much of a selection AT ALL in this ghost town of Pinconning. Â Almost every time we visit family here though, we eat at Purtell's. Â Service is always excellent and the food, while horrible for you, is yummy and very low priced. Â The ice cream is awesome. Â Highly recommend if you are in the area.
