Breakfast was great hearty traditional American for great prices. BUT food service was slightly snotty and waitress have us the bill very quickly as if rushing us off. If its turning into lunch hour shorten breakfast hours and don't rush people off. So in short four star food two star service
Review Source:On the way to Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park, we decided to stop in for some lunch. It was a cold and rainy day, so a place like Red Barn looked very welcoming in hopes of warming us up, as well as filling out stomach.
To start off, I got a cup of french onion soup. It wasn't what you would find in Quebec or France, but it was pretty good. They put a nice thick layer of cheese on top and plenty of onions and croutons inside. I was quite surprised to discover such good soup in the middle of Montrose.
Next, I ordered the Bacon Mushroom Swiss Burger, which didn't impress. The burger patty was fairly small and completely flavorless. I understand that the toppings are usually meant to make up for the lack of flavor, but not in this case. The bacon was overcooked and dried up, and there weren't that many mushrooms on it. It filled me up, but it lacked any flavor whatsoever. You can get a mix of fries and onion rings with it, which is pretty good.
Just your average burger and steak restaurant in small town Colorado. Nothing too exciting. Service here is very warm and friendly. Their sign says "Voted Best Burgers," but I'm not quite sure in what. Probably just on their street, where there's no other competition.
This was one of the most tragic meals I have had the displeasure of having.
When we arrived at our hotel across the street I will admit hunger made me lazy...I won't make that mistake again hopefully for a long long time.
It took a few minutes to be seated and at least 15 minutes before anyone came over and said hello can I get you anything to drink or anything??
Merle ordered a beer from the menu that was on tap. The girl had no idea what it was and it came about 25 minutes later in a bottle. Our meal took FOREVER to come out. I noticed everyone around us waiting to either order, pay and get the hell out of there, or like us wait for our food.
I ordered some spaghetti for Lola and it was overcooked slop. Luckily she doesn't have a diserning palette yet!
I ordered a take on a french dip, with green beans, and salad. When it finally was dropped off...I could see the bright red right away. (I ordered it medium) I told another waitress as ours was gone as soon as she set the plates down. That the meat was raw. She took it away. When it came back it was cooked, but still gross lots of fat and the beans were an inedible reheated frozen disgusting mess. Merle had chicken fried steak and he asked me to try his gross mashed potatoes...they were indeed gross.
The whole time while we were waiting for my recook we were picturing Gordon Ramsey saying "it's raaaw, it's Raaaw" It made for at least a little comic relief. If Gordon Ramsey came here he would have closed this place immediately for a Kitchen Nightmare redo. This place could rake in the money if they actually took pride in what they were serving and not open a can and have Chef Mike (microwave) cook for them.
NO MATTER HOW TIRED AND HUNGRY YOU ARE, DON'T EAT HERE!!
We went as a trio... Â I had a construction burger ($1 goes to habitat for humanity), fried onions, green chili's, swiss. Â The burger wasn't bad, but I have had better at red robin. Â The chili's were out of a can even though they are in season. Â Asked for barbeque sauce, got a tiny little plastic cup full, c'mon where's the bottle?
She had a chicken breast served with French fries. Â That was literally all that was on the plate, so much for presentation. Â Green beans were on the side, frozen, cooked all day we think.
The old man had chicken fried steak, we think he liked it, but we didn't hear him raving.
We had to track down my card, it got forgotten in someone's apron for quite awhile.
My stomach wasn't quite right the rest of the night...
bottom line, the food isn't worth $15 a plate, best get a burger, pray not to pray to the porcelain, two stars because well... Â it has to be really bad to get one from me.
I have been going here since I was young. Its always a place I have gone for brunch on Sunday's, a good burger, a drink. I had my first rocky mountain oysters here, my first lobster tail. So now that I was in town, I went back. Everything was delicious as always except my oatmeal. It was quick oats. I would never get it again. The old El Paso omelette was to die for and the bacon is delicious. They have coffee trader coffee, which is excellent. I will always eat here, just will not ever get the oatmeal.
Review Source:Excellent food and friendly service. Â This is a great local spot to pull in and enjoy dinner! Â This is all about the local flavor and it was a John Wayne hang-out. Â Get the small combo, it was great! Â We stopped here for dinner after a very long day ride from Moab, Utah that included a 200+ mile U-turn (that's another huge story!). Â This is a rustic style restaurant that is a local place and is a somewhat throw-back to the supper club days. Â Maybe it was the fact that we were both tired and hungry, but the Red Barn came through for us. Â Give it a try.
Review Source:My family and I were on a road trip on the way to Telluride. Â On the way we drove through Montrose. Â First things first we always try to eat local vs. big box restaurants. Â But don't be fooled the Red Barn is not worth it. Â There are plenty of other options further down 550. Â
As much as I wanted to like this local "gem" my wife ordered a spinach salad which was wilted and quite gross. Â I opted for the Burger which was say 9ish or so dollars. Â What I received was a processed frozen bulk patty similar to what would be found at Walmart.
The absolutely only redeeming factor to this restaurant was the service. The staff was extremely friendly and prompt. Â It's just too bad that the food was so bad.
My boyfriend lives in Montrose, so I frequently visit the eateries there. Â Last Saturday, his parents, who were visiting from out of state, wanted to treat us to a nice meal. Â Since we all have varying palates, theirs being not as adventurous as my boyfriend and mine, we decided to try Red Barn. Â
The atmosphere was meh. Â We were seated in a back dingy table, and it was very, very hot. Â Our waitress was very friendly and attentive, but she admitted she was called in the last minute. Â That's not her fault, but it was obviously a chaotic night.
My boyfriend, his dad, his brother, and my boyfriend's roommate were mostly pleased with their choices. Â My boyfriend's brother got the ribs and seemed to enjoy them. Â My boyfriend loved his prime rib sandwich. Â My boyfriend's dad got a steak, and said it was OK but very bland. Â My boyfriend's roommate got the Caesar salad and was also kind of whatever about it.
The ladies, however, got jipped. Â I ordered the Halibut and was sorely disappointed. Â It was one of the most overcooked pieces of fish I've EVER tasted, and I've tasted some awful fish. Â It was supposed to come with garlic butter, but there was none to be found. Â I could barely swallow it down, but I did it out of politeness. Â My boyfriend's mom was SUPPOSED to get pork loin with mashed potatoes, stuffing, and an apple sauce instead of gravy (the night's special), but she got a bone-in pork chop with some nasty looking potatoes and stuffing and BEEF GRAVY smeared all over the top. Â It apparently tasted awful. Â
We weren't charged for his mom's awful meal, and in hindsight, we shouldn't have been charged for mine, either. Â I was sorely disappointed with my first experience at Red Barn, and I probably won't be back.
No, no, no, no, no.
I was eagerly anticipating my return to the Red Barn and was met with bitter disappointed. What used to be a deliciously juicy burger has turned into a bland overcooked piece of gristle.
They may have a new cook in the back as I heard our server calling for him to show him our very overcooked burger. The new one came out a touch less overcooked, but overcooked nevertheless.
On the plus side, our server was very friendly and offered us the truth when we asked about what was good.
Still, it's inconsistent enough that I won't make the trip out in the future. There are lots of very consistent restaurants in the area.
Save your money! Â
This steakhouse boasts prime cuts of meat and great service in Montrose. Â I don't think so! Â First , the hostess put us way in the back corner when there were tons of open tables next to windows. Â When I asked for a better table, Â she shrugged and walked away. Â Second, it took our server ten minutes before our drink order was taken. Â Then it took her another ten to get our food order. Â We ordered a baked potato skin appetizer, garden salads with ranch, snow crab legs w/ drawn butter, Â medium sirloin steak with veggies and mashed potatoes and gravy, and coconut cream pie for dessert. Â When our food came, it all came at the same time leaving you no room to maneuver plates and there was no elbow room to cut that overpriced, dried out leather boot they called sirloin. Â The potato skins were a bit dried out and rough looking and the snow crab legs had a hint of freezer burn to it. Â The mashed potatoes and gravy were alright and the coconut cream pie is one of the best that I've tasted.
All-in-all, don't bother!
