Surprisingly amazing! Small place in Geneva, not known for restaurants.  Lamb was cooked to perfection! Salad was a delightful blend tempting every tastebud possible. Hummus was unique with a hint of olive and just the right amount of garlic.  Waitress and bartender beyond amazing. Went above and beyond to make sure we felt at home.  Nice locals restaurant/bar very welcoming to out f town guests. Would highly recommend!

Red Dove .. sad i only found you toward the end of my stay in Geneva .. a really nice albeit small Tavern .. outstanding beer selection, friendly staff and a weekly changing menu to keep it fresh and seasonal. When I think of returning to Geneva for vacation, the Red Dove is one of the reasons to come back. There were a fair amount of vegetarian friendly dishes on the menu the week I was here, check the website and see what is new.

    A really nice little place!

Ordered the 6 piece Korean chicken which was pretty good. The chicken was really crispy but the sauce they used was fairly watery which made some of the chicken a little soggy. The sauce would be better if it were a stickier consistency, but it was really good.

Also got the Flank Steak Sandwich. It seemed like this was a really popular choice for people that were also there. It was really good. The steak was done just right and the cheese and bread were amazing.
The waitress dropped half of my sandwich on the way out to bring it to me, so they gave me another full sandwich for waiting for so long.
This is what I call good service!

My friend ordered the Gyro which he said was alright. They used the typical sort of pre-made paddies of meat which he said would have been better if they had used full pieces of meat like the flank steak sandwich.

Overall, this place is really good. Service is good and the quality is very good!

Exhausted from a day of wine tasting, I decided to stop in Geneva for something to eat on my way back to Rochester.  Half bar, half restaurant, Red Dove Tavern features an impressive array of beers and cocktails, but a depressingly unimpressive array of wines.  I'm a huge supporter of New York state restaurants supporting New York wineries.  And let's face it--if you're a restaurant in Geneva you owe your existence, in part, to tourism of the Finger Lakes and their white wine (mainly Rieslings), which seem to gain in prominence with every passing season.  So I was astonished to see only two New York state white wines on their menu.  And why they have four different kinds of sparkling wine (but no champagne) is beyond me.  They did have a 2012 Red Tail Riesling on draft, but really?? Two, three wines??  Serious restaurants in a Finger Lakes wine town should do a little better than this.

And now the food.  I ordered the swordfish, which featured snap peas on top of the fish, with miso roasted carrots, fingerlings and blanched kale on the side.  Although the swordfish was well-cooked and juicy, it lacked distinctiveness.  There were no spices added to it, nor did the assorted vegetables seem to bring out or add to the fish's taste.  It just tasted like fish and vegetables.  I could barely tell the fingerlings were on the plate.  Put simply, it was just a boring, uninspiring meal that altogether didn't jive well.  However, it was a healthy meal and I can certainly respect any establishment that attempts to serve blanched kale as a side.  But for a meal that costs over twenty dollars, this was very average.

Summary: The Red Dove Tavern is a restaurant that features an incredibly diverse menu of atypical dishes.

Price: It's a bit expensive.  An order of 6 chicken wings is $9.50, small plate of shrimp is $11, desserts are about $7, and a burger and fries is $10.  It's not break your bank expensive, but if you try a couple things with a couple people, it easily puts your bill $40+

Taste: Everything has been really good!  I've tried the Korean Fried Chicken, Shrimp Pil Pil, Blueberry Rhubarb Crisp, and Bacon Jam Burger.  The KFC consists of crispy fried chicken wings with an asian sweet sauce.  It's not that spicy, but it's has a little heat.  The SPP are shrimp cooked with garlic, cayenne, and spices, and are slightly battered, and definitely delicious.  The BJB was a cheese burger with some tomato bacon relish, and works well.  I requested my burger Medium-Well and it was a little more pink than I normally prefer, but it didn't take away from the taste.  It was a little greasy though.  Last, and the opposite of least, is the BRC, which is quite possibly my favorite desert ever now.  It was the most delicious dessert I've ever gotten at any restaurant, ever.

Atmosphere: I've never been to a bar to drink before (a 24 year old male who just graduated college that's never been to a bar or had alcohol, *gasp*!), but it's pretty much what I'd picture a bar to be.  It has a large bar up from with tables around, and a nice ambiance to it all.  It's very red in there, appropriate for the name

Service: The wait staff is fantastic.  Both people I've had have been wonderful and both refilled water and checked back often.  I left both more of a tip than I normally would.

Why not a 5? : The Red Dove Tavern is undoubtedly a nice and interesting place (look at the menu and check back often, it changes week to week!), but it's hard to go here without spending around $15+.  If you want a dessert or a small plate of something too, it's going to run you closer to $30.  It's good, but not something I would get in the habit of paying that much for often.  And I mean, that's fine.  The thing that takes away the 5th star more is the fact that they run out of things.  The last time I was there, the waitress had a list of about 6 items that they ran out of on the menu.  And the Blueberry Crisp also wasn't available when I ordered it as they hadn't realized they ran out of that, so I was saddened by that.

Overall: Despite them having ran out of the best dessert I've ever had on my last stay (while true, I mean this as a joke), it's a good place.  I would recommend all the things I've tried so far to anyone who likes chicken wings, shrimp, or burgers.  It's all good, and if your wallet can take the hit, you're sure to have a good time.

Spur of the moment trip to Geneva and was recommended this place from our wine pourer at Belhurst Castle.  So glad we listened to him!  Had a blast with the bartender, Addie (not sure if I spelled that right).  Had some great beers and awesome food.  Grabbed some apps at first and then went back late night for their burgers.  Loved the bacon jam one!  Just beware, they can run out of some items as the night goes along.  Shrimp pil pil and grilled feta for the apps were great...lil spicy and delish!  Great atmosphere.  Def swing by!

If you're a "foodie" (I really dislike this word but y'all know what I'm talking about) and enjoy GOOD BEER, definitely check out Red Dove Tavern. The people here are clearly passionate about both. This tavern is worth a trip to Geneva by its own right. The green curry duck wings are truly delicious. Buffalo chickpeas - another creative hit. A wonderful smattering of appetizers and entrees. Local produce. Delicious lamb chops. An excellent beer selection. I don't quite remember the wine selection exactly but it wasn't too shabby (although I do recommend Microclimate around the corner for their wine and Red Dove for food and beer). Very eclectic and ever-changing menu. A gem in the finger lakes!

The Red Dove Tavern has an amazingly interesting eclectic menu. We ordered food for 2 with a house carafe of wine and the bill came to $80. To be honest we massively over ordered because all the food looked so interesting and as it turned out, we could have comfortably fed 3 people.

Oysters, duck wings, blue & honeycomb were a few of the items we tried from the menu. In short I would have no hesitation in recommending this restaurant as long as you are prepared to explore!

Oh did I mention the friendly attentive service?

Menu is unique and food is well executed!  We had the duck wings, mussels with chorizo and fingerling potatoes, and the flank steak sandwich.  Every bit of food was scrumptious!  We also had a taste of the great variety of draft beers.  Finally, service was friendly and prompt.  We would definitely recommend this place and go again ourselves!

The Red Dove is in a really sketchy part of town.  When you park and see the local drunks hanging out at the bar next door you immediately want to make sure the car is locked.  Once inside you are presented with a cool-funky dining room and bar.  The menu is on the chalkboard with everything from small (really not so small) plates to entrees.
Good beer selection and being that its Geneva of course good wine choices with local wineries highlighted.  Food is amazingly well done.  Imaginative preparations done honestly.   Oysters on the half are always available.  Try the KFC that is Korean Fried Chicken, Wow.
Three stars instead of four because you need to find another place for the Red Dove.

I should give them a 5/5 for being what they are located where they are.  We can't seem to find any restaurants worth spending our money at in this area.  I will spend my money here again.

I have been here twice.  Once for lunch and once for dinner.  Lunch was ok.  My husband had a steak sandwich and the steak was overcooked.  We can't seem to figure out why places ask how we'd like our steak if they just ignore what we say.  But it was still tasty.  I had a pasta dish that was very good.  It was from the small items menu and it was giant! The wine and beer selection is really fun and great.

Dinner was amazing.  My friend and I shared a quail served with grits that was so good I'm glad it was a small portion.  I would have eaten five.  We also shared the whole trout.  The flavor was perfect.  Just great.   We shared a cobbler (fig and pear) and a panna cotta (buttermilk and apple).  The panna cotta was weird with the buttermilk; it turned it into like a yogurt.  I didn't like it because I love panna cotta and had expectations of one thing.  But my friend did! The cobbler was dope.  Figs were fresh and sweet and the pastry was not very sweet at all.

Our waiter for dinner was nice and succinct.   The waiter for lunch was also great.  Good service with some banter, but no interference. LOVELY!

I can't say enough about this place. It's the local hangout for faculty and staff and feels like a home away from home. The cocktail menu is unique and made with local Red Jacket juices and fresh fruit.

My staple items to order include: grilled feta (warm feta with jalapenos and comes with pita), buffalo chickpeas (yes, chickpeas flavored like buffalo wings--vegetarian dream), arugula salad, blueberry cobbler

I've never had a bad meal here (except when I ordered a whole trout by accident not knowing that meant head and eyes included). I'm still trying to try the Saturday Brunch menu.

My only minor complaint would be the difficulty of getting tables on weekend evenings but this is only because it's SO popular (and they don't take reservations for groups smaller than 6). BUT if you ask how long until a table is ready, you can go to Microclimate (the wine bar) around the corner and ask the folks at Red Dove to call the folks at Micro to tell you when your table's ready. Only in a small town!

I loved the Red Dove with one small complaint.

The menu was creative and fairly priced, at least from my perspective on coming from a resort town. I had a scallop small plate that was absolutely incredible. Those were the best pan seared scallops ever. I followed with a brie sandwich that was really tasty, too.

My chocolate desert had a texture between mousse and fudge. It was wonderful and a just right portion.

Service was great. It's a small restaurant with only 2 waitresses (as far as I could tell). Although both were really busy, they always had a smile and they were extremely efficient and professional.

My nitpick: I had a great Napa claret. It was a big pour at a very fair price. However, it was served too warm. I'd guess it was at least 10 degrees. They need to figure out a way to store their bottles to prevent this.

Do yourself a favor and visit. You will not be disappointed. Abbie is a great bartender, it was our first time and he made us feel right at home.  The small plates are reasonably priced and really very good.  We had the Shrimp Pil oil, foie gras, and calamari.  Good beer selection for the size of the pub.

If you're here, get the Korean fried chicken. A little spicy, succulent, crispy and delicate outside- chicken perfection.  IT'S FANTASTIC. Yes, all caps are necessary.

While we were staying at The Fox and The Grapes in Lodi, the innkeeper suggested we eat at The Red Dove Tavern. They recently catered a wedding there. I'm so happy we went.

The decor, The service and the food=amazing.

Reservations are only available for groups of 6 or more. We walked in on a Friday night at 7. It was busy and we quickly greeted. The expected wait was 5 minutes and our server, Chelsea was back in 5.

The items on the menu feature produce and cheese from the surrounding area. I am supporter of implementing local ingredients as possible.  And for it's location, it is easier to do so.  It keeps the menu fresh and it's awesome because every couple of weeks, you can try something new. Although the downside is your new favorite might not be there next time. In addition, there is great array of Finger Lake wines and beer from local breweries. I noticed the servers asked some of the other diners if wanted to try something before committing to a wine or beer, which is nice.

I had a Blackberry-Basil Collins- Tanqueray Rangpur , basil, blackberries, lime. It was refreshing.  My boyfriend had two pints of the Sly Fox Standard Pilsner and he enjoyed those.

Entrees ordered: Teres major and Scallop and chorizo. The teres major came with au gratin and green beans.  I sampled my boyfriend's dish: the beef was tender and delicious. The potatoes were nice with a ample of cheese. The green beans were a bit undercooked but nice flavor overall.
My dish had a polenta cake with sauteed garlicky spinach on top. The scallops were prepared well. It came with some nice grill marks and was a bit smoky and the insides soft and...I want one now thinking about! And then the spicy chorizo..

No dessert for this dinner. The one I wanted was out- a  local honeydew melon granita...no! However, all the options looked tasty.

Bill total was $80.90 after tax. 2 entrees, 2 beers, 1 mixed drink, 1 app. and 3 smaller bites. ( 2 raw oysters @ 2 dollars each and a local fried zucchini flower at 1.50)

I really wish this was closer to me! The Red Dove Tavern does what a lot of other Gastropubs try to do, but they succeed.

While in the Finger Lakes for the day looking at wedding venues, we decided to head out a little early to grab a late breakfast somewhere in Geneva. Yelp pointed us to the Red Dove Tavern and their Saturday morning brunch.

Had the Red Dove bagel, which consisted of a plain bagel with brie, smoked salmon, and avocado. Big fan of all these ingredients so I really enjoyed the bagel. And they don't skimp on any of them either. I think I ate a whole salmon and whole avocado. Filling and healthy breakfast. The lady had a breakfast burrito which looked delicious. And it was all fairly cheap - less than $20 total for everything.

The Red Dove Tavern seems like a cool little spot in Geneva, one I didn't expect. It sounds like their other meals might be just as good. I wouldn't hesitate to stop in here again should I find myself in town.

I'm giving 5 stars because I'm from NY and love this type of enterprise. But I'll start with some carping about the business practices.  We make a reservation and are required to give a credit card # - when I ask, I only get that there will be "a charge" for a no-show.  We arrive and find that our party of 6 is among the few diners that evening. We also ask if we can split into 3 checks - strictly against company policy.   This is not the upstate NY ethos folks - you're not in Chelsea or Greenwich Village here. Check out how your competition tries to please customers.

The wine and beer list makes up for a lot.  Great NY beer selection (10 regional beers), and after tasting too many mediocre Finger Lakes wines I was impressed with the couple of reds I sipped,

Started with polenta napoleon with ricotta and red pepper sauce, and moved to tile fish, snap peas, and string beans. The fish (not an easy one to find) was perfect but the vegetables were too crunchy as an accompaniment.

But people seemed to enjoy the novelty of the menu and their food,

Lots of pluses to this place and probably one of the best restaurants in the area, but I pulled back two stars because 1), the bartender/waiter was awful, and 2) they are misleading in promoting themselves as using the "finest local ingredients."

The menu has great diversity and the few items we ordered were excellent, lots of flavor and well made. The crowd was interesting and looked pretty hip, and the table waiters looked skilled.  The vibe is like an old cafe in a big city and the decor fits.

The barternder was total schlock, used car salesman from the get go and went a long way to making our visit uncomfortable.  His canned jokes and rote lines were not funny and his "22 second spiel, you got a watch?" was all about the local sources menu and the ever changing menu.  I'll go back if I am in the area, but we won't sit at the bar if he is there.  Not to mention the place does have a touch of class, in a nice way, and he was way way underdressed.

When questioned about the local food, we found nothing to be so, although there was many opportunities to do so. The beef was not local (and there are 4 farms that sell it very close to Geneva), the chicken neither, the trout from Utah, and even the beer didn't include MIddle Ages (from Syracuse), Genesee (from Rochester), Ithaca or even Utica based beers. They were Labatts and micros from far flung places.

The food we ordered was pretty good, though the caesar was romaine lettuce even though it could have been early season greens from the area and if anchovies were used in the dressing you couldn't taste them (there were non on the side).  The Korean wings were deep fried and plump, cooked perfect, with a sweet//hot red chili sauce that was really tasty.

I'm sorry I am so hard on the place, I guess, as a proponent of local foods/local owned businesses, I just get offended now that places can say this without even marginally backing it up. Maybe later in the summer it would be different. I don't see many other options like this in the area, so we will go again and I will update you, I want to move them up to at least 4 stars.

Very creative menu, excellent wines, and extremely friendly, engaging service! The quail wrapped in bacon on a bed of barbecue lentils was especially delicious. Fresh oysters for $1 each and asparagus tempura were also yummy. And the mocha creme brulee ... To die for! I will definitely return!

One of the wineries (Red Newt) recommended the Red Dove Tavern to us and we are glad they did.

This gastropub had good menu options.  We opted to just try a few small things and we thoroughly enjoyed the food.  I would say 5 out of the 6 items were really good.

They had a good local beer options and the bartender was very good - talkative - engaging - we ended up chatting with people and the bartender for 3+ hours!

I definitely recommend Red Dove Tavern as a must stop Gastropub experience in the Finger Lakes area!

This was the first Gastropub I've ever visited and wasn't sure what to expect.  Overall the experiences was good.  The food was interesting and decent.  They had a great micro-brew beer selection.

Great atmosphere, casual but upscale, was a great first experience and would recommend to others to give it a try.

We had a question about one of the menu items and the owner was nice enough to come to our table, explain many of the items on the menu, and make recommendations.

Gave it three stars because the food didn't knock our socks off.  We were more impressed with the desserts.

We found this cute place while wandering around Geneva, and my husband was attracted to the nice beer selection.  I really wanted to love the food, but unfortunately it just fell short on taste (tried to be too fancy maybe?).  Would be willing to try it again next time we're in town.

I'm glad a place like this can survive in a place like Geneva. It's unlike anything else we have in this town and I do like it but I wish they had a few more plain food options for lame people like me, haha. The staff is very friendly which is very important to me... I will not go to place with mean spirited waitstaff.

The menu changes often and they use local ingredients which I think is great. Last time I went I had the spinach pie and it was delicious and decadent! The accompanying salad was good. They have a great beer menu, too!

    Do not bring kids here.

Coming back to add that it is EXTREMELY irritating how often they run out of entrees (and thus downgrading to three stars). My fellow diner tried to order twice and both entrees were no longer available. Lame, considering how small their menu is to begin with.

The good intentions were all there, but the food just didn't deliver.

The duck wings.... very meh. They were cooked properly it seemed, but the coconut sauce they serve them in a pool of was lacking flavor and needed some oomph.

I had a flank steak sandwich. It was OK, nothing special. It could've used either a sauce or some greens or something to give it a little pizazz.  Overall everything seemed a bit under-seasoned.

I love that they have local wines on tap from a keg.... It was a hot day, perfect for the local dry rose they have. That was the best part of the meal.

The menu had a pretty wide variety, something for everyone.

    Street parking was easy.

While not wowed by anything, the Red Dove isn't expensive and the food was probably still better than the alternatives...

    Wow
Great Wine on tap or rather from the cask. It was great
The wine was young and therefore not with great depth of taste but was fruity, fun and well balanced for young wine.
The ambiance is bistro like- dark and homey. The staff is friendly and unpretentious. The food is well prepared and nicely presented but again Bistro like. No fancy built up towers of food. The hanger steak was superb with great simple sides of swiss chard and shoestring fries. the duck was properly cooked with cherry sauce. Tart and perfectly balanced. The mashed potatoes were creamy and smooth. The swiss chard was slightly cooler than expected but flavorful.
A great eating experience.   The place was busy for a Tuesday.

After reading the review, I made sure we include it as a part of our the itinerary. The place is a flunky as described by others and has a nice chilled place to hang out with your friends. Unfortunately, the place is short staffed and when that happens, you know the service suffers. They forgot to refill my order and the waitress remembered she had forgotten to get me my hot sauce.

G had the clam linguine which turned out great because the size of the clam was good and it was loaded with many of them. I ordered the curry with vegetables and I know what am I thinking...ordering something Asian in a non Asian place...which even in the town of Geneva, we were the only Asians around. LOL. The jasmine rice was crispy...I think they used a stove top and overcooked it. If I were in a better condition, I wouldn't loved to have tried their duck wings but oh well...

If I am back in the area I may give it another chance...but overall it was an okay experience.

After one failed attempt to go to Red Dove(it was closed for the evening), I was able to make it back last weekend, and all the hype was much deserved.  What I love about a lot of the restaurants in the finger lakes is the food is from local farms.  Red Dove's menu changes so much that they don't have it printed on menus!  It is written on two chalkboards to reflect what they are serving that day ( although it was also slightly hard to read from where we were sitting)
Having not tried Duck wings before and being from Buffalo, I just had to order them.  They were quite tender meal and spicy, for they used coconut milk and curry in they mix.  No sauce, it was all in the skins which was different, and appealing.  For drinks I ordered wine ON TAP!  Yep, I read about this in an article, my beloved Herman Weimer Wine, Frost Cuvee, not from a bottle but from a tap at the bar!  Delicious and also slightly cheaper than a normal glass from a bottle.  I also had I believe Dinkel beer, it was extremely cheap for a craft beer at $3.75.
Onto our mains, I stuck with my duck theme by ordering the Duck & whiskey braised onions potato gratin while my lady ordered a salad(really) with a portabella on it.  The onions and second portion of duck were absolutely fantastic.  I wasn't all that much of a fan of the potatoes, but hey, I usually are not.  But the onions, ssoo darn good.  As bumed as I that the lady ordered salad, it was one of the better ones that I ever had with the porto being huge and full of flavor.
All in all, a great experience at Red Dove.  Love to come back to try a different seasonal menu.  Highly recommended!

The boyfriend planned a fantastic wine tasting weekend in the Finger Lakes for just after the holidays. Naturally, I was very excited about it and immediately looked up the area and what it has to offer. I decided to look up places for our first meal in Geneva, as we were staying at a BnB in the area. The Red Dove was the clear winner when searching online.

When we arrived we sat ourselves right next to the bar. We would have sat at the bar to strike up a conversation with the bartender, but alas, it was full. We were starving and immediately eyed the menus that were given to us and the menus all over the side wall. The menu is definitely creative, as others have said, and makes you a bit indecisive as to what you want to eat/drink. They have a good variety of draft beers, but to keep up with the theme, I chose a really good Australian white wine. Chardonnay, I think, a very refreshing mild table white.

I had the falafel sandwich with hummus and the spicy thai tomato soup. Both were very good, with the soup as the clear winner for the night. The boyfriend had the portobello sandwich with shoe string fries. I'm not a huge fan of that type of fry, but I had some anyway. The side salad was also tasty, but has slightly too much dressing. Don't order the fried chickpeas - they literally give you a bowl of them, freshly made, and it's quite strange and not really appetizing.

All and all, this was a great chill local spot that us NYers very much enjoyed. If we're in the area again, I think we will return!

The Red Dove is the perfect place!  They meet all of my requirements.

    1.  Creative menu using locally sourced, seasonal ingredients? Check!
I had the scallops & andouille sausage served with pumpkin polenta and kale.  The sausage and kale were from local farms.  I ate everything on the plate.  It was amazing!  The perfect combination of fall flavors.  I still salivate when I think of it!

    2.  Interesting signature cocktails also using locally sourced, seasonal ingredients? Check!
I ordered the cranberry apple margarita using juice from Red Jacket Farms.  It was super good.

    3.  Funky interior decor? Check!
They obviously did some work to the place.  I especially love the tin ceiling!

    4.  Awesome & friendly waitstaff? Check!
We were greeted and seated immediately.  Our server was present and available but never in our face.  Water kept flowing in the glass.

    5.  Good selection of low & high priced options? Check!
My meal was the most expensive option on the menu that night at $22 but you could also get a gyro sandwich for $6 and lots of other tasty sounding meals at various price points in between.  My husband got the chicken fried pork with cheddar grits & collards for $16.50.

This place has changed my perception of the Geneva restaurant scene.  Red Dove is my new favorite place in the region!

This is a cute little place with a menu that apparently changes daily. We had a nice portabello sandwich on toasted french bread with shoestring french fries (would've preferred real fries but as far as shoestrings go, these were fine). We also got the Veg Thai Curry which was lovely. The problem was the dessert- we should've left before we ordered because then it would be a 5 star experience. The caramelized banana split wasn't really caramelized enough. The banana was luke warm and a little dried out. and it took 15 minutes to get it :(  Go for the dinner, and leave before it gets crowded and you pay $8 for a blah-dessert.
