I ended up at the Red Horse Saloon for the Superbowl, and I'm glad I did, it's a cool little bar.  RHS is part of Carefree Resort & Villas, which I saw none of and that's why I made this a separate review. We came for the big screen tvs, and we stayed because of the food and friendly bar staff.

When we arrived at 415PM there was no one there, but unfortunately all the leather sofas and chairs had been reserved for groups already. We grabbed seats and pondered the menu, which is a newspaper. They handed this paper to us and we were all, oh no, we want to watch the game...yeah, we are brain trusts. Anyway, the menu is on the inside and I have to say, not particularly vegetarian-friendly. BUT Frank, our bartender and part time server, was happy to take meat out of any of the salads and quesadilla.

Between the two of us we shared the (normally chicken) quesadilla, sweet potato fries and a side salad.  The quesadilla was very cheesy, and stuffed with green chiles and other vegetables and came with salsa, sour cream and guacamole on the side. YUM. The order of sweet potato fries was huge, they were thin cut and not at all greasy. YUM. The salad was also enormous, for a side, and was topped with roasted red peppers, black beans, corn and tomatoes. The vinagrette dressing was really flavorful.

So we ate and watched the game, and as the night wore on the tables and reserved seats filled and everyone was very friendly and we noticed that extra help had been called in, presumably from the resort to help serve and bartend and bus tables. Oddly though it was the same 2 bartenders and 1 busboy still doing all the work. the two women staffers who showed up just walked around looking at people and standing against the back wall. which was pretty unhelpful. Service slowed down quite a bit, so when I ordered margaritas I had to go get them myself and when my cousin suggested dessert she had to go ask for it at the bar as well.

We were intrigued by the S'more of the Day (are you freaking kidding me?!!!) and each day does have a bit of a twist to it, but unfortunately it requires going outside to the firepit and roasting the marshmallows yourself. Don't get me wrong, that is totally awesome and I will be back there in a heartbeat to stuff myself with smores, but not during the superbowl. And when we couldn't find anything else we really craved on the menu, we were brought a complementary dessert: a frying pan full of sugared nachos drizzles with caramel sauce, marshmallows and three scoops of sorbet. It was the weirdest thing I've ever seen but it tasted good...and it was free.

Frank makes a mean margarita so make sure you drink plenty of water before you drive! Or just sit outside with a bag of marshmallows,  setting them aflame until you're sober.
