I remember visiting Red Lodge Ales when it was attached to the bowling ally. Â When I came back to visit a few years later, I noticed the huge building just outside of town and of coarse had to give it a try.
Sam's Tap Room is a great place for a beer. It is the new (for me) tap room for Red Lodge Ales. The new brewery building looks great. It operates more as a bar than a regular brewery tap room. They serve food and wine as well, so I think that is why they can get around the silly brewery laws in Montana. Which means it can be open longer, and there is no three beers per person limit.
As you walk in, the room is very large and open with a bar along the back. There is a pool table and some darts. There is also a great patio to sit at outside. The brewery equipment can be seen to the left as you walk in the door. The service was very friendly and knowledgable. I did not meet the brewmaster, but the other people working knew their stuff. The patrons that visit are very friendly. There was a bicycle race through town, and a lot of the racers stopped in for a visit.
The bar has about 8 taps. All are Red Lodge Ale's plus one guest tap. You can get pretty much anything in a growler. Most of their year round stuff is available with some seasonals as well. I love the porter, hefe, and pale ale. They had the Sctoch Ale on Nitro as well.
I did not try the food, but it looked like a good place for lunch. Lots a sandwiches, salads and such. Overall, you can't beat fresh beer from the source. An excellent place to relax and take in the great local atmosphere of Red Lodge (brewery and town).
If they have it, try the broken nail IPA! It's a hoppier version of their bent nail IPA. This place is good to go to after skiing or hiking to grab a beer and a sandwich. The sandwiches are respectable and filling. Try the chicken salad, it's a little different than your average. I have to give this place 5 stars because I have stopped here every time I've gone to Red Lodge.
Review Source:Wow. On a trip to Wyoming to visit the boyfriend's family, we stopped in at Red Lodge Ales for some food. What a fantastic find! I had their porter and a Hell Roarin' sandwich and I could not have been happier. The porter was well balanced, not too light but just the right amount of heavy. The sandwich was wolfed down pretty fast since I was famished from a day of travel. Anyone who lives near Red Lodge or travels through it on occasion really must stop by here! The staff was super friendly to as an there was a dog to boot! Tasty and cozy.
Review Source:Great atmosphere and tasty food and beer.
My girlfriend and I stopped by on our way out of town during a late Spring visit. Â The building is well designed, a nice rustic/western/industrial vibe with rough wood trim beer bottle light fixtures all inside a metal clad building. Â One of the nicest breweries I've visited in Montana. Â There is a big outdoor area and also an outdoor stage where they host music in the Summer/Fall.
The menu was brief with sandwiches, salads and soup, but our Tuna melt on rye was very good. Â We also had a "scoop" of their spicy thai peanut salad which was indeed spicy.
They had a host of their brews on tap, as well as some bottled ciders. Â We opted for a sampler and tried 6 of their beers, all tasty.
We sat at the bar and our server was friendly and great answering our beer questions. Â I imagine this place is crowded on weekend nights during sky season, but no visit to Red Lodge is complete without a stop here!
I had a delish octoberfest beer, and a warm sandwich. Â The beer was, well smooth and delicious. Â I liked this octoberfest more than I liked Atlanta breweries' octoberfests. Â The close the kitchen pretty early, I think it was around 7pm. Â All in all it is a very friendly atmosphere, and if you are skiing in red lodge, you must make this a stop in your itinerary.
Review Source:Got to admit I only tried two beers and one sandwich here, but it'll get 5 stars for now, because that shit was perfect!
Everything about this place seems to me to be the way a brewery should be, starting with the smell.
Rather than smelling like food or something oversanitized, both the brewery and the taproom smell of malty wort. Delicious. Made me so thirsty for a beer.
The taproom consisted of a bunch of nice people sitting around a bar, chatting and drinking beers, just like it oughta be. The staff was very friendly as well.
For food, the options were very limited, which is the way it should be. I'm getting sick of all these breweries where the food is more important than the beer. They had a few things available, mostly delicious looking sandwiches. I had a cold turkey and provolone sandwich on rye with everything on it. The rye was tasty and the meat tasted flavorful and fresh.
But it's really about the beer, right? I tried the seasonal Oktoberfest beer. It was hearty and malty and I recommend it.
I also tasted my sister's hefeweizen. It was light, crisp, and fruity. I've had better, but I'm not sure this was their strong point. The Oktoberfest was awesome though. I'm gonna go back a few more times to try more of their varieties.
A+
We were in Red Lodge with family and decided to tour around the town while the rest went skiing on New Year's Day. A friend had recommended checking out Red Lodge Ales, and being beer lovers, we wanted to check out what the local brews were like.
The atmosphere of the cafe and bar was great. As my husband described it, it was a cross between industrial and western. We had grabbed lunch at Foster and Logan's before we went to the cafe/bar or else we would have grabbed one of their delicious-sounding sandwiches or paninis.
We sat at the bar and I ordered the Hefeweizen and my husband ordered the Glacier Ale. The Hefeweizen was good, but I had just had a Blue Moon at the bar, so I was hoping to have something different. My husband, however, absolutely loved the Glacier Ale. We also ordered the sampler and our favorites were: Jack's 90 Schilling, Porter and Chocolate Stout. We ended up getting three growlers of the Jack's 90 Schilling to share with the family after they were done skiing.
Definitely check out Red Lodge Ales for some brews and food.
