Once upon a time, 2 friends of mine and I took a road trip to Whitney, TX.  We went to visit a little lady who lived in a real Texas house out in the country.  She has 27 dogs and a longhorn skull near the front.  It looks wicked western!  I had never visited her house and decided it would be a fun and exciting idea for a Saturday.  So we saddled up in my mom's sweet ride (she has a monster explorer with gas in it) and headed out.  We drove for about 3 hours, or so it felt, but really it was like a little over an hour.  We did have much to catch up on.

Once we arrive, and after some chit chat, we loaded up in Mom's sweet ride and headed to Blum, TX.  It was like 50 miles away, well more like 15, but the roads were filled with hills.  We arrived at the Redneck Bar & Grill for lunch.  It's a little place off some road.  There is a big sign and motorcycle creatively mounted on top.

    ATMOSPHERE:
It's a bar.  However, there are these big comfy chairs at the different tables.  You feel like you might be at your Grandma's dinner table.  It's a good thing they are comfy because you are going to sit a little while.  This happens when the food is cooked right there.  I mean, I know they didn't pop it in the microwave.  There are old signs on the walls.  It's dark and there is a bar that have bar-stools that look like someone's butt in jeans.  They are cool.  The lady behind the bar told us people fall off them every so often because they forget there isn't a back to the chair.  I really wish that would have happened when we were there, but it didn't.  There is a jukebox and it blasts county.  It's a little loud, so you might have to yell at your friends at the table to talk.  There is also 1 pool table.  I told you, this place is small.  There are also 2 TVs over the bar, no sports, but some horror movie was playing.  It smells a little like stale smoke, but I did say it was a bar.  So just suck it up and have a seat.  It will be worth it.

    FOOD:
The food is cheap for all that you get.  I ordered the chicken fried steak, because that is what you order in a place like this.  It was DELICIOUS!  I had a salad first and they bring you a ketchup looking container of RANCH.  So you don't have to tell them, "hey I love salad dressing, please bring me more of it."  You get to put however the heck much you want on it.  This is truly a bonus.  THEN, my meal came.  The chicken fried steak was a real one, with the GOOD gravy.  I might be becoming a gravy connoisseur.  Once back in college, one of my old roommate's made me a chicken fried steak.  She made the gravy from the grease in the pan.  I had never seen this done before because my mom was a nutrition Nazi and I am pretty sure my arteries clogged a little back then, and probably a little bit yesterday.  The gravy was not the fluffy white gravy out of the package.  It was awesome gravy.  This awesome gravy also came on the mashed potatoes.  The mashed potatoes were real too.  Plus, I got a piece of Texas toast.  We are in Texas so that should be a standard side.  There are some peppers jarred in Patron bottles on the table.  I thought that was a clever idea.  I didn't eat any peppers, but only because if it was hot, I would tear up, cry and probably whine until it the heat went away.  The ONLY thing that disappointed me was that my pop didn't come in a mason jar.  I was really hoping it would.  Mason jars make excellent glasses in dive bar type places.  It also means that the food is the focus.

Now 2 of my friends got a burger.  By looking at it, I could have eaten that too.  It looked awesome.  They got cheese fries and regular fries.  Both agreed it was delicious.   My little friend's Looney Tunes Grandma look alike, got a B.L.T. and onion rings.  I tried one of those onion rings, it was so hot it almost burned my mouth.  It was really crunchy and good.  Just wait a minute for it to cool down before you shove it in your mouth.  Note to self.

    SERVICE:
There were 2 ladies there.  They were both very nice.  I am pretty sure they might have also been the cooks.  They let you sit a bit, and then they come back and get your order.  Now if you want to leave, you will have to tell them, or they will likely let you sit there all day.  They have an extensive menu for a little place, so the bill takes a minute too.  They have just gotten what  you call a "computer."  If your food item was not one of the "regular" dishes, they must search for it.  Regardless, they are very friendly and they said to come back and try the Rib-eye.  I might just have to do that.
