Rego's Restaurant & Hotel

Best place to go in the Mon Valley if your in the mood for Italian. Get the manicotti with meat sauce.

For individual meals, this place is great. We've eaten here as a group on several occasions and the waitress was very unpleasant and difficult to deal with. Thankfully, a manager stopped by the private room to help her so that she could resolve her issues, but we all agreed just to let it go. However, for the sake of this review, I have to be completely open about the experience. It wasn't great, but the food was very good and the remainder of the staff was very pleasant. I highly recommend Rego's for pairs, but as a group, I wouldn't schedule business meetings here in order to avoid issues with clients having to see the waitress lose her cool because she didn't bring the correct food or was unable to handle the complexity of the orders.

This is an "old school" restaurant that has been a mainstay of Charleroi for many years. I haven't been there in the last decade or so therefore my expectations were "fresh" I had decided on my dinner selection before my dining companion had arrived.  However I spied they had gnocci on the menu and I was told it was their homemade gnocci.  I changed my dinner selection and never looked back.  Their homemade gnocci was the most amazing I've ever had in my life. They were pillow soft and fluffy but substantive if that makes sense but I don't care if it does because that's how they were.  They were served with their own tomato sauce and made for a delightful dinner.  

My companion had the spaghetti dressed simply with olive oil and garlic.  I of course had a bite which proved to be delish!!  It was a simple basic Italian dish that did exactly what simple peasant food should do and that is to shine by using great ingredients and let the food speak for itself.  

This was overall a great dining experience. Our server was very attentive and we were well taken care of. I'm not sure how she managed to do it but she talked me into trying a piece of their homemade blackberry pie for dessert and it was great.  

I will be back whenever I am home visiting family.
