There are some things that you MUST experience if you live in the Delta: the Jim Henson Museum, the BB King Blues Festival, Doe's, Christmas on Deer Creek, and Rhoda's Famous Hot Tamales!
I have to admit, I'm not the biggest fan of spicy things, but these little babies are so yummy!! Â I devoured 3 before I knew it! Â The spiciness is just enough to create a delectable flavor, without overpowering the entire dish. Â
Once you've finished your coffee can of tamales, get some of Ms. Rhoda's equally delicious pie! Â You can purchase a full size pie or do yourself a favor and opt for her mini-pies! Â They come in a variety of flavors - lemon icebox with a homemade meringue, pecan, sweet potato, chocolate, coconut, and others - and all are incredible. Â Don't worry if you can't make a decision because they also come split between two flavors - like pecan and sweet potato. These little 4 bite pies are definitely worth a trip out to Lake Village on their own!
It's a bit off the beaten path and the building may make you nervous for a second, but trust me, you'll be glad you came!
We happened to be passing through the area and we were hungry. Â I told my dad "I know a place but you have to trust me". Â So I set the GPS and we pulled up to Rhonda's. Â Like most people I hesitated for a second. Â But you have to take the whole place as your experience. Â Its is what it is, an old shack of a building. Â We walked in to sit down and the lady behind the counter asked what we were having. Â No waitress service here! Â I got the fried chicken, mac n cheese and cornbread. Â My dad got 3 tamales. Â Awesome! Â Everything was perfect. Â The mac n cheese was some of the best I have ever had! Â I tasted my dads tamales and they were juicy with a kick. Â He wasn't feeling good before we went in and he said they cleared his sinuses! Â I'm so glad we went. Â This was PURE Arkansas Delta southern home style cooking.
Review Source:This is one of those "local dives" that you must visit if you want to experience the Arkansas Delta at its fullest. The building is quite dumpy, but inside, prepare yourself for some pretty ding-dang good soul food. Rhoda is a friendly woman too.
My lunch of tamales, sweet potatoes and rice was wonderful.
