Fancy restauraunt without the upcharge!  Delicious food, made only with the best ingredients - the owner is real picky with where she gets things.  Lots of local ingredients.  But the prices are so reasonable!  Everything on the lunch menu is basically under $10.  And the desserts...mmmmm fresh made every day.  Get the vanilla bean cheesecake.

    ATTENTION!!!!!!!!!!

Don't waste your money. Which is exactly what you will be doing if you eat at this so called "fine dining" experiment.
My husband and I were excited to try this little place out after we had seen a special about it on tv.  We thought "hey if its on tv then it must be good!" but sadly that was not the case.
First off the cozy little restaurant is in a downtown historic building with hight tin ceilings. Quite lovely, if it weren't for the decor. Tacky comes to mind when the front of the building is covered in...Balloons? The place looks like you are going to a children's birthday rather than a fine dining restaurant. Inside carried out the tacky theme with a menagerie of wonderful details like Local art on the walls (not to mention the walls themselves, I'd love to know their painter) covered in sports memorabilia. Thats right! Steelers stuff haphazardly thrown everywhere. Because nothing says fine dining like football.
Though I can say that there was one thing this place had in common with a high class eatery, the High prices. The place boasts ridiculous prices for sub-par cuisine. I had Sage and prosciutto wrapped shrimp which sounded delicious on paper but was in fact 21 bucks worth of watery bland angel hair topped with 4 dry rubbery shrimp.  My husband had the fish special that evening and It was the highlight of the night It was so good (I regret not ordering that). But one good dish doesn't make a restaurant now does it?
I will say however that the waitstaff are amazing, You will never have an empty glass thats for sure! They may be the only saving grace for the place (if it could be saved)
After dinner we moved to the lounge for drinks and live music however the final offense in a long list of offenses was our bar bill at the end of the evening was outrageous! two glasses of wine (which listed on the menu were priced at 6 bucks apiece) were charged as 9 on the ticket not to mention an extra two drinks we never had. WATCH YOUR TICKETS!!! When we politely asked for the mistake to be corrected we had the pleasure of meeting the owner of this lackluster attempt of a restaurant in which rather than fix the issue, disputed with us that we did indeed have all the drinks listed.

All in all, Risto's Place was so bad that I had to write a book about it.
Save yourself some time and a TON of money just skip this overrated, sad attempt at a fine dinning experience.

We don't eat out much but my DH wanted to try this place out.  We went long ago when it was still Mayo's.
The waitress was wonderful though not terribly attentive. We ordered a bottle of wine and it didn't come until we asked two more times.
She talked me into the filet it was just okay.  My husband got the bolognese and thought it was quite good.  I'm not a veal fan so I didn't try it.  We passed on dessert so cannot speak to that.
After dinner, we went into the lounge and enjoyed the rest of the evening with the King Bees, a small ensemble from Todd, NC - very bluesy-rockish.  We thoroughly enjoyed it.
Now we'll be watching for what musical entertainment they have there.

I would like to begin with : I found this place on yelp and this is why yelp is probably the best app/website yet. I was driving down to Asheville, NC and had been driving for ten hours and desperately needed food. It was a Thursday night around 9 PM and rain had just begun to fall. Therefore, I wasn't expecting anything great or fancy - I honestly wasn't even expecting to be seated. But Risto's out lived all of my expectations! Not only did they seat us even though their dining room was technically closed, but they seemed excited to seat us! The place itself is located in a small, cute little town right off of where route 40 and (i think) 71 meet. It boasts its commitment to locally grown produce and I believe you can really taste that in the food. The food - well - this was probably the weakest part of the experience. Right off the bat, the bread wasn't that good.. it tasted stale but then again we were probably their last customers of the night - so maybe this had something to do with it? I ordered the avocado potato soup (it was a special) and did enjoy this although it was a bit salty. My dad ordered the ribeye which he said was cooked well but was very fatty. And my mom ordered the pasta primavera which was served in a red sauce with veggies and sausage, She did not care for this much. So all in all, the food was eh. BUT I think it says alot that the food was only alright and I'm still giving this place four stars! What redeemed this place was three things: the service, the atmosphere and the desert. The service could not have been better. Our waiter was super attentive and very friendly. The atmosphere was awesome. There is a dining room area and then a bar area which features live music occasionally. The night that we stopped in, there just happened to be an awesome show happening which was heard at the perfect noise level from the dining room. The walls are decorated with artwork from local artists that you can actually purchase and the color scheme of the place is just so warming. Everything looks so authentic and artistic - you can tell careful planning and dedication went into this place. Lastly, the desert. Wow. The owners mothers apparently makes all the deserts and god she is very good at this! We got the peach&blurberry crisp and devoured it within minutes. I'm sure anything would be good though!!

Bottom line, if you're traveling in the area and need some place to stop - stop here! I doubt you will be disappointed. .

Now called Risto's Place - sad story really - it is actually OPEN behind a bunch of construction gates on downtown's main street. So first off, do not be turned off by that!

I have to give Risto's 5 stars. They had brilliant acoustic music my Marie Reed at the Lounge, a super friendly bartender, and excellent food. I'm traveling on business and needed a classy subtle place to unwind.

The Nuts & Berries salad w/ Grilled Chicken was my choice for the evening. It was complimented with rustic crispy bread w/ hand made tomato and oil dressing, which was delicious. I have to say the grilled chicken was exceptional - juicy, warm, and REAL. You know what I mean.

The atmosphere was laid back, quiet (besides the music), and classy southern lounge/restaurant. You could not tell any of this from the outside. Which is what makes this trip out a treat, because it is like visiting the best kept secret in town on a Wednesday.

If you are looking for a new place in Statesville on your travels for dinner, make sure to check out Risto's, and enjoy your evening!

Service was good, food was delicious but 'entertainment' was TOO loud!

We dined at Mayo's for the first time last night and overall it was an enjoyable evening.  My salad was accompanied by a wonderful homemade honey mustard that was quite good and my entree was a goat cheese and spinach stuffed chicken breast that was really very very good!  The green bean side were delicious as well!  My date had bolognese, which I didn't sample, but he said it was overall pretty good too.

We had a cannoli and a chocolate tart for dinner and the tart was very good and the cannoli was okay...didn't wow me.

Our glasses were always full, the team of waitstaff were very helpful and friendly.  The 'lounge' that is adjacent to the dining area boasted live entertainment that sounded nice from the outside of the building, but rather loud inside and while the music selections being offered were quite varied, the volume level left me unimpressed.

If in the Statesville area again, I'd try this restaurant again, but wouldn't make a special trip.

If you're looking for a nice restaurant in the Statesville area, Mayo's is a good choice. I've eaten here twice now, for lunch and dinner, and have had nothing but pleasant experiences.

The decor is interesting and features original artwork by local artists. While I think they could benefit from hiring a decorator, there is a local charm that makes it work.

    A few menu highlights:

    +The Waldorf Salad is excellent.

+Their fried calamari was very well seasoned and cooked perfectly.

+The bruchetta was a little runny.

+Pork loin chop very good. It was served with a braised cabbage that was excellent. Loved it.

+Their tiramisu is sinfully good. Get. It. Now.

Service is stellar. My wine glass was full all night.

I stopped by here late on a weeknight as I was passing through Statesville. I had an amazing experience! The staff and patrons were all genuinely friendly and inviting. Local musicians were playing popular R&B hits from the 60's til now. Every one said hi to the out-of-towner. I ate a prosciutto sandwich and some lentil soup. Both were great. The food is made using fresh ingredients from local farms. The owner told me she makes all of her soup stocks from scratch, too. This place is seriously a one-of-a-kind gem.

I recently stopped in a small town in Pennsylvania and stopped by a pub. It was typical pub food, but it triggered me thinking about Mayo's again. The place was the opposite of Mayo's, so it reminded me of how special Mayo's is. Mayo's has great tasting healthy food served in a warm, outgoing, small town atmosphere.

I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS PLACE AT ALL!  If I could give it a negative star I would. The decor was interesting. Lots of local artist had their works for sale on the wall. Nothing there said Italian. We got there at 8pm on a Sat.  It was almost empty. That should have been clue 1. Most of the tables were empty but none were ready so we sat at the bar and waited. After a half hour and many "we're almost ready for you" we got up to leave and paid for our drinks. $6 for a glass of wine. It was ok.
As we left, they told us a table was ready. What a coincidence.   We took the bait and sat down. 30 min had passed. We ordered 3 times because each time we ordered they came back a few min later to say they were out of it. Clue #2  No joke we said "surprise us with something you do have". They brought out bolognese or at least their version of it  All it was, was spaghetti and meat sauce with a lot of water at the bottom of the plate. They didn't even drain it well. The owner/manager came out to say sorry but that meant nothing. In all, $6 for wine, $35 for the food. Total of $41 for the worst Italian food and one of the worst places I've been to. Service was bad, food was bad and decor was not Italian.  I really feel like they took me. I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS PLACE AT ALL!

We really had a great meal.  Wonderful bread, perfect filet  special with smooth creamy mashed potatoes and grilled veggies, the fish special which was something like bass was scrumptious. The  calimari was different than most with the pepperochini but I loved it.  The kids had chicken tenders which looked home made and tasted REALLY good.   The atmosphere was very cute and the service was very good.
