Great little joint, would've never thought a place like that existed in Portales.

    I dig it.

In comparison to the other places around Portales, RBC is definitely worth coming back to, time and time again. Seeing that I've only been to RBC twice, and the experience was great ranging from attentive service to tasty food, I'm pretty sure I'll be back again pretty darn soon.... oh, and I haven't even tried the Clovis stout yet, or their "delicious Starbucks worthy coffee" (as described by a friend). I've tried the black and tan and the Heffe and both were pretty good and hoppy. yummm..

Ordered the Greek salad for 2 and was pleasantly surprised. There was a mix of greens (not all romaine lettuce) and the MUSHROOMS were an even better surprise! YES. Mushrooms in the Greek salad! :) The dressing was super tangy which I thought was a nice change from the typical Greek salads that I've had. The "Greek Salad for 2" portion could have been bigger.. as I could have eaten the whole thing by myself, but I LOVE veggies, so, to each his/her own. Also, instead of pungent raw onions, I think their onions were pickled which added a nice mouthwatering "kick" to your normal Greek salad.

As for the pizza, it came out piping hot with ooey-gooey melted cheese and the crust was just crispy, thick, and soft enough to hold up the ingredients..shrooms. Yup. We ordered "The Shroomer" pizza and it was pretty darn good. Don't ask for your pizza to be split half and half here (one topping on one side of the pizza and another topping on the other half) as the cook in the back won't even consider it as an option. In my opinion, I think The Shroomer pizza could have used some roasted garlic but I guess they don't want people to leave here during date night with stinky breath. I, for one, love roasted garlic.

I digress... my friend and I split the check evenly in half and the check was just under 10 dollars for lunch (around $9.60-ish excluding tip). Not too bad. Now, in the words of Arnold Schwarzenegger, "I'll be back."

This brewpub is better than many of the brewpubs in Ft Collins, CO. The problem with many brewpubs is having both good beer and good food. The Roosevelt Brewing Company has a great selection of beers---including a great Black and Tan combination--Dirt Town and Portales Pale. The reuben sandwich and the pizzas were excellent. Don't miss it! This is the kind of place that will put Portales on the map!

This restaurant only has about 12 tables, so if you are going on a weekend or a large party call ahead. We had 3 in our party and were sat within 5 minutes of entering. There were two large parties there when we arrived, we were sat in a booth before them. Our waiter was prompt and conscientious, checked back often to ensure we had what we needed. We ordered 3 different pizzas, they are slightly larger than an individual pizza. I ordered the Dragon Breath and asked them to hold the habanero  peppers and it was still plenty hot. We all enjoyed ours and brought a few pieces home. All beers listed on their board were in stock. I had a porter and my wife had the Portales Pale Ale, both very enjoyable. Definitely would return and recommend to others.

Absolutely loved the pizza here. Do not understand all the negative reviews. Coming from Dallas and San Diego it was an absolute treat to find a place with decent atmosphere and fantastic food. Husband and I have been craving their pizza since yesterday and may even make the drive from Clovis just to get The Shroom. Service was great...really truly enjoyed it.

After reading so many negative reviews for Roosevelt Brewing Co, I felt the need to write one.  This is by far my favorite place to go to in the Clovis/Portales area.  We drive from Clovis all the time to come here.  The environment is great- there is no place like it in the area.  I have never eaten anything bad- the pizza, appetizers and cupcakes are all amazing!  Some nights it is busier than others- but it is well worth the wait.  Enjoy a freshly brewed beer or two while you wait to sit down or get your food!  Definitely recommend!

This is a great place with an awesome atmosphere.  Since it IS so great, of course there might be a little bit of a wait to get seated or to get your food.  That's expected, especially until they get the kinks worked out.  I have yet to have food that wasn't great tasting and the beers are really good.  A lot better than going to the local steakhouse and ordering a Coors Light on draft and getting served Keystone.

I have been excited to try the new brewery in Portales since I heard of its opening and high hopes (probably too high). I will just make a list to keep from boring with all the details.

-No beer list (at a brewery). It's on the board behind the bar. Problem is you could not see the board from our table.

-My pregnant wife ordered tea. They did not have tea. Drink options were water, sprite, or beer.

    - There pale ale was the worst I have ever had. It was warm, flat, and sweet with little hop aroma or flavor.  I couldn't even finish it. ( I drink lots of craft beer and I am a homebrewer)

    - We had to go to the bar to get our own beers because our waiter was in the back of the restaurant texting.

    - When we complained to the waiter about our server about his poor service his excuse was that there were only 2 servers (there were only 6 tables to be served).

-We had a table of 8 and asked him at the beginning if we would be able to split our check. He said we could but we would still have to pay the 17% gratuity. We agreed. When we were ready he brought us the check and refused to split it because of our table size.

Those were just the highlights of our experience. I have many other complaints I will not bore you with. The only positives were their pizza and the guest beers ( Marble and Santa Fe). To top it all off, they didn't even have toothpicks! Seriously, spend $3 on a box of tooth picks.

Beer was god awfull, service was slow, and heaven forbid you fill a growler with an out of state license (+$3 for being a guest....). This place is definetly missed the mark, the atmosphere is cramped with a poor layout and flow. All in All if you enjoy shit beer and slow service, have a ball. As for me I'll just find better service/beer elsewhere.

    A Portales 4.

Since the original hype from this RBC's opening has has begun to wear off, I decided to write a review.  I decided to break it down into bullet points for ease of consumption.  That said, I will start with the ugly and end with the good.  For context, we went on a Saturday afternoon at 1:45.

    The UGLY:
    - One of the customers/friend of the staff, who has performed live music there before walked behind the host station and messed with the cash register to start closing her party's check because the host was "taking too long."  She was part of a large party, but the host was by himself and the only cashier, and they were waiting for a while with no one taking their check.

    The BAD:
    - It took 30 minutes to seat a party of two at 1:45pm even though multiple small two seater tables were available.  We were eventually sat at a bar height table for four.
    - Clovis Point IPA seems to be a very popular beer produced at the brewery, but as a result, it seems to always be out.  I would really like to try it, but have not had it available yet.
    - At any given time that we have visited the brewery, only one person pours all the beer.  This has caused quite the backlog on busy nights.  This afternoon, however, we did see the host pouring a beer when the sole bartender was otherwise occupied, which is a positive sign.
    - From what we have seen, there is no bus staff.  Consequently, the host clears, cleans, seats, and acts as the cashier.  This afternoon, there was only one host, but at nights we have seen more.  Regardless, this tends to cause a slower turnover of tables.
    - There is a bar height counter at the windows, and they have served people there to increase capacity, but that is also where people wait to be seated, which causes the area to become really cramped.
    - It took 45 minutes to get a pizza and a reuben during an off peak time... BUT that brings me to the GOOD.

    The GOOD:
    - The server apologized for how long it took to get served, and gave us a 10% discount.  When this ended up being less than the price of a cupcake, she instead gave us the cupcake on the house.  Strong move.
    - The food, we ordered a pizza and a reuben, was excellent, and they update the menu seasonally to keep it fresh.
    - Flights of beer are available--a VERY unique service in this area.
    - The server was at the table near immediately after seating getting our drink orders.  The drink orders were very fast when they were not beer.  We had ice tea at the table within minutes of sitting.
    - RBC provides the WIDEST selection of craft beer in the greater area.  Because their own beers run out fast, they do a very good job of finding other microbrews from around New Mexico, and present their "Guest Breweries" very favorably.
    - In addition to being the widest selection of CRAFT beers in the greater Clovis/Portales metroplex, RBC has the widest overall beer selection in all of Portales.

To echo other reviewers' sentiments, I would rather have the RBC than not have it, but it is apparent every time we visit that they were not ready for the demand present, and they are still figuring out the right way to use their space... We are all waiting to see how the RBC continues to evolve.

Really enjoyed this stop in a sea of mediocre food and desert of good beer.  My girlfriend and I stopped in on a cross country road trip, and were really surprised to see a local joint with a focus on good food and beer in rural New Mexico.

We both ordered the pulled pork sandwich that was amazing!  Also we took a growler of the blonde ale to go which was really wonderful.  All around this is a must eat if you are in the area.
This is a new restaurant, so things seemed a little in flux and unorganized behind the scenes (though it didn't affect our service or food at all).  We were able to meet the owner and Mr. Anderson who is the matrix like beer ninja lurking behind all the delicious recipes.
They seem committed to making this a local food destination with world class beers so as time goes by I expect the food and beer quality to only improve!

Ok so every true Yelper knows that when you first visit a place and you give one Star, you have to come back to test the experience.

Today, I came back about the same time, (Fri--off early time).  I was quickly seated just where I asked for, and the wait staff seemed very cheerful.  My waitress came over to me quite fast and asked what I wanted to drink.  Ummm Beer it is a Brewery!  I told her I like Lagers mostly, (Test from last time--read my review), she said at the moment they don't have any Lagers, but suggested this Green Chili beer that has the same color and density as a Bud Light.  Green Chili... ok I had to try this, she gave me a sample.  Yes, I think this is working out very well.

I choose the New Mexican Calzone, with (Green Chili) sauce. My thoughts were to marry it up with this nice beer.  Let me tell you about the beer, light, clean taste, but then slowly, and I mean very slow, the finish gives you a soft heat.  Does not in any way take away from the experience of having a beer.

The Calzone was large, very crispy on the outside and some good flavors on the inside.  I understand that this is cooked in a wood fire oven; very tasty.  I was so very surprised that they had a green chili beer, and if you have that with this green chili calzone, you will not be disappointed.  I think that they should recommend this combo for a norm.  If you are thinking that is too much heat, nope, honest--the heat of the calzone was cooled off from the crispness of the beer, but the overall flavors lasted. Great Combo!  We should call this combo-William's Green Chili Slow Ride!  Just saying, I did discover this combo. Lol.

Let's talk about the service and timing now.  This was extremely bad last time I was here, receiving an appetizer in 45 min and burnt. Today, I sat down at 3:45pm, ordered, chit-chatted with the waitress about beer stuff, and my Calzone was in front of me at 4:10.  I was very pleased and surprised, the waitress was on top of it all, I didn't have to wait for anything.

Ok so yes I would have to say I would come back. (rated Fan, but more like a 3.8)  From the other reviews, there are some issues here, the consistency needs to be addressed, but they have potential to be a huge hit here in this small town.

Well my husband and I both had heard the hype about this place, some good-some bad, but wanted to give it a try.  With it being new I didnt want to risk the long waits so we decided on doing a late lunch, we got there today a little after 1pm.  We still had to wait about 30 minutes and a group had walked out while we were waiting because they apparently waited too long for their comfort.  Well we reviewed the menu and it looked promising, the place was very very noisy, small (which explains the wait at anytime of the day).  We finally got seated.  Hubby ordered Red Chili Enchilada Pizza & I ordered the Alfredo Guero.  Then we waited...and waited, guessing aboout 20 min. and the waitress came and said they RAN OUT OF DOUGH????  Btw this is a pizza and calzone joint...why would you not be prepared on a Saturday to have enough dough??  So she says it will be about 20 minutes more..well, we then decided to get some chips n salsa..which came with quacamole...which was good, but we were very hungry too...didn't here back about the progress with the pizza until I got up to go to the restroom and ran into her and gave her a look of wonder and she said it was in the oven...yea sure...now it's 2:40 and pizzas come.  These are about medium size and frail, hubbies was sooo spicy he couldnt eat but 2 slices and wasnt good enough to take home.  HORRIBLE!!  I've never seen him turn away something for too much heat.  Not only that, but the "angus beef" that was suppose to be on there was about the amout of a tablespoon!  Same about of chicken on mine!  I really couldnt distinguish the chicken because it was so chopped up and few and far between that the onions were huge compared to the chicken.  No flavor in my pizza and it was like a piece of cardboard.  For $10 a pizza...anyone would expect more.  I could've ordered Pizza Hut's $10 special and would've fed all of us with leftovers and got everything we wanted with a smile!  We left there at 3pm very unsatisfied!  We didn't even get a comp for having to get the appetizer since they ran out of dough and we had to wait a total of almost an hour for our food, then nothing seeing that a pizza wasnt hardly eaten and we said we didn't like it.  Poor service!  We wont be going back.

Well there are many reasons people open pubs and most are really great but always have the same type of food. We decided to see this place because we heard their beer was amazing and food would be great, and different. Well we went after lunch hour so there wouldn't be a line. We were seated and waited for a little bit until the server came by; when we asked about the beer she didnt seem to know anything; just told us to look at the board and she walked away. My husband had to stand up and walk to the bar to read the damn board =/ anyway he got the stout which was good but didnt have a head on it (same with the porter which didn't taste or look at all like a porter and was very disappointed). We ordered the Hummus (which when i pronounced it with the U not an A the server looked at me like I was stupid, and finally had to show her the menu and pointed to it, then she was like "oh you mean hammas!" She brought me my tea after taking that order for the appetizers and to be honest it was more like water with a lemon on the cup *sigh* more diappointment. Wanted the Philly Cheese Stake which they were out of, so ordered the pulled pork sandwich, and my husband got the ruben. When we got the hammas, it was so bland (believe me i make my own and it was missing a lot of seasonings!) and the Pita was suppose to be toasted which seemed like it was only microwaved. Anyway after disappointment after disappointment we were hoping that the food would be amazing. When she brought it out it looked really good, but it was a little cold :/ anyway after taking one bite from the pulled pork it burned my mouth it was so damn spicy and on the side (which when u hear chips u think french fries) had regular chips from a bag =(...it was the same story with the ruben, no sauce no french dipping sauce (and then the server said she never heard of it being served with aju sauce or however u spell it) and it was really spicy, we were so disappointed we didnt even want to take any food home with us when asked =( all in all the beer was okay but I could go to the Dog house and buy better beer then that (I also brew beer at home and it seemed like maybe they focused too much on the science and not on the beer itself); and I could have gone somewhere else and gotten better food =/ all in all will not be going back, and I don't think they will last for much longer...kind of sad =((

We took my parents who are visiting here today for lunch after hearing a lot of good things! Their food is good, definitely all about the pizzas and calzones which are wonderful! My mom and I shared the Hawaiian pizza which was great; they are about 12 inches in diameter, which was perfect for sharing at lunch.  My dad had "the New Mexican" calzone, which was spicy; he devoured it saying how good it was!  My husband had the turkey and avocado sandwich, which was great, he just didn't like how it came with plain tortilla chips (with no salsa) instead of fries or potato chips.  All in all we though the food was great.  It does take a little longer to get it than your typical chain restaurant, but knowing that it is cooked fresh and on the spot makes it worth the wait! We all tried their house beers which were also really good.  The Cole Porter beer which is a dark espresso beer was smooth, and tasted great.  The staff was very friendly and the place was clean with a nice laid back "pub" atmosphere.  Glad we have this place in Portales! We will definitely be going again!

First off, I saw a menu at my work for Roosevelt Brewing Company and they had a kids menu included.  So that night my husband, daughter, and I went to try this restaurant.  We walked in and there was no one else in the waiting area so we were told it was a 15-20 minute wait.  We were fine with that since we drove from Clovis.  45 minutes later we were seated.  When the waitress arrived I asked her for a childrens cup of milk to which she replied "we don't have any kids cups, and we don't have milk". I figured since they had a kids menu they'd have kid drinks.  Then we ordered and waited 30 minutes for one pizza and a salad.  The  pizza was delicious but I wish I had known it would be so tiny.  The Greek salad was good, although very heavy on the onions.   We had apiece of German chic cake which was also good, would have been better with milk! Our waitress was very nice but the restaurant definitely has a lot of kinks to work out. If the wait hadn't been so long and miserable I'd give another star. I'll try the restaurant again in a few months.

This review is from my first visit (Roosevelt BC has been open for approx. 10 days as of this review) to this brew pub, and I arrived with fairly high expectations. Unfortunately they missed the mark a bit. I didn't expect a full up business in the first two weeks of opening, but the first big miss is that there are only two locally brewed beers available. I was told (via their Face book) that an IPA would be available, but when I ordered it, I was poured a pint of Happy Camper (which is usually sold in cans in grocery stores). To their credit, their home brewed Pale Ale had good flavor and the right amount of hops. Another big problem is only one bartender (on a Saturday night). I sat at the bar while waiting for a table, and he was overwhelmed, at 4:30! Not to mention he came off a bit rude. The salsa & guacamole appetizer was unfortunately store bought, there was nothing home made about it. The saving grace was their pizzas. With the exception of half of the crust being burnt, it looks and tastes delicious. A big problem my table noticed was that the head chef just ran food out from the ready line, walked around and shook hands with patrons, and has now been sitting at a table talking with customers for the last 25 minutes as I type this. I have never seen a chef spend so little time in the kitchen before. That being said, it's not a bad place, and I'd rather have it here than not. It just needs to get its operation figured out to get to the next level.

Update: I received the below compliment from an owner (or manager?):

"Thanks for the feedback!  Our IPA was was brewed this last Saturday and will be ready ready around the 5th(January).  The chef issue has been resolved".

Their Face book page stated that the IPA is now on tap. I will be going back for a second try in about a week, but the latest reviews for Roosevelt brew co. is not building up much anticipation.
