Ruby House Restaurant

Long story short: Best onion rings I've ever had. Good steak.

I had:

Rib-eye steak (cooked medium)
onion rings
side salad with blue cheese

$20-25 with tip

Atmosphere:

I was on the way from San Francisco to Madison, WI, a three day driving journey and was looking for a hearty meal. The Ruby House was recommended by the Econo Lodge hotel staff in Keystone after someone asked where to get a good steak. Went in around 8:30pm and there were plenty of tables. The atmosphere is western saloon style. Guns and ol' timey photos all over the walls.

Service:

Hostess was very nice to me upon entering although she seemed slightly surprised that I was eating alone. I was literally the only one.

My server was Donovan. Service was immediate. Was very attentive to my needs. Water refilled instantly. Checked on my frequently.

Food:

Rib-eyes are usually the best behind a filet because they have that fire grill taste and crunchiness on around the edges. Steak was very juicy, decently tender for a rib-eye, and was actually too big for me to finish. Steak was slightly too salty.

Onion rings were the best onion rings I've ever had. Thick batter on the rings which soaked up the steak juice very well.

Salad: just a house salad. Blue cheese was very good. That less viscous, but with chunks at the bottom blue cheese.

We had lunch here while touring Custer State Park. Food was excellent I ordered Indian Taco on fry bread. It  was huge and lots of chile on top of the beans. Hubby had the prime rib sandwich and said it was very good.Service was immediate. Perhaps because it is the start of the season so that may slow down with larger crowds.  We are in the area for the summer and would try this place again.

Bison burger was dry, french fries were not fried enough. The cole slaw was very good.
