This is THE place to go to dance in Bellingham.
Though I say that with some reservation--I only go here Thursday nights, for 80s throwback night. I think wells are $1 from 9-11 with 2.25 pitchers of Rainier.
It can get crowded around the 12-2 range, so come early and get your dance on! I'll probably be there =D
Also, there can be a few...extreme people here at times. But that just adds to the charm.
Rumors is as good as it gets for me, in Bellingham. Â The drinks are great, their prices are amazing and their staff is AWESOME. Â All of the bartenders are all very friendly and tend to remember your "usual" drink, which makes the experience so much better. Â The bouncer is very hot, yes Chris I am talking about you, I always appreciate a little eye candy at the front door.
For the most part the crowds at rumors are very tame and there are rarely any crazy issues.... which is def something that cannot be said for the other bars downtown. Â Most everyone is pretty laid back and down to have a great time. Â
The music can be hit or miss but the crowds are so into the music that it really does not matter most of the time. Â Their is no air conditioning so it can get very hot, but oddly enough I don't mind leaving sweaty after a few hours of crazy dancing.
Rumors is the one place you can go and just be whatever you want to be and not get judged. Â I love you Rumors you will always have a special place in my heart
Coming from san fransisco, this bar was so bad. immediately before walking into the bar I was already being judged by rumors patrons. I even had people say that they were leaving because me and my friends showed up, I thought this bar was friendly to all types of people but I guess not. This club is for mainly sober straight grunge type people. I don't even think this should be called a gay bar anymore. not to mention the fact that I had to wait in line for 20 minutes for a drink. This place is nasty and the people here are just as rude. I have lived in this area a long time and never have been treated so poorly...Horrible place with horrible ugly personality people. I'm sorry rumors I won't ever be back again, I'd rather go across the street to glow....
Review Source:I love Rumors. Â The pool tables rock, DJs are great. The third Sunday of the month is fetish night and that is just plain FUN. Â and Wednesday you can see my dad The infamous Betty Desire do her drag show. Â There is an eclectic mis of people straight (even though it is a gay bar) bi, gay, lesbian, punks, rockers collage kids, people of all ages. Â It is a place for everyone to be themselves. Â It is my home away from home even though I live in San Francisco. Â It is my favorite club in Bellingham (even though I haven't been to any of the others if I had I would still like Rumors the best). Â Oh and the Staff rock too they are nice friendly fun people. Â Â I love to go and play pool for a while then hit the dance floor, and not leave till they make me.
Review Source:After getting through the line I was excited, the only gay bar in bellingham! Heck yes! But my experience was bad.
I must have been on an off night because the DJ was horrible, it sounded like music was being played from a CD player, with breaks in between songs, and nothing you can really dance too. They have $3 dollar long Islands on friday which is a steal. But our drinks were so horrible that we couldn't even finish them.
Just a very bad experience, but I did like the feel of it!
Fun bar, cheap drinks, not very good music, but who cares!
The bartender the night I went was very respectful and hilarious. The bouncer at the door questioned my ID more than any other bar in Bellingham (it is real, but out of state)... He finally believed me after showing him other forms of ID (such as my passport) and poked fun. I didn't really care, but I wouldn't try going here if your ID is fake... mine is real, and I got held up at the door!
Overall, fun place though!
I got really drunk here once. Not just kind of drunk but black out in the bathroom and "wakeup" kissing your friend instead of your date drunk, go to the next bar and 5 minutes aftter paying a steep cover turn to your date and say "we need to go home cause I'm gonna puke" drunk.
i'm not sure how exactly I got so drunk considering I had only a couple of drinks that normally wouldn't have lit me up that much but I did. I had a lot of fun there; dancing with the girls, the boys, my date back to the girls, dancing with the girls and my date at the same time... WOOHOOO!!! it was fun.
The drag show was fun too of what I caught and who doesn't like a place with black lighted air hockey? I will say it is one hell of a dive bar but if you are looking for something other then your basic classic rock or top 40 then this is the place to go in bham.
just be carefull how much you drink, they creep up on you!
I hate this place.
The only good thing about it is cheap beer and karaoke.
But even then, the karaoke is shitty, the host is usually drunk and plays favorites to people that tip him and buy him booze, and his music selection is AWFUL... Â I mean he's really missing some karaoke classics. Â overall, the only purpose this bar serves is to give insecure straight college girls a place to go and feel sexy... because compared to Betty Desire... EVERYONE feels sexy.
Rumors Cabaret has been a Bellingham legacy for more than 20 years dating way back when they were located on State Street. The drinks, music, and atmosphere considered by everyone I know as the only place to go as far back as I can remember (and still to this date). Since they moved to this new location on Railroad Avenue, (an old converted Coca Cola bottling warehouse) this nightclub has prevailed as the best, and one of the biggest places to go on the weekends north of Seattle. If you're curious on what they have inside think of two separate night clubs. On one side you have pool tables, air hockey, pinball, large gathering tables, the biggest half moon full service bar, drink shot bar, coat check, etc. On the other is a very large modern laser/led dance floor with a huge stage lining one side the room. The DJ sit's above everyone out of the way right above several high bar tables. Expect top notch music from Seattle local and visiting DJ's, creative bartenders, and plenty of space to mingle and or hook up if that's your thing. This is considered a gay friendly alternative straight friendly bar open to anyone 21 and above. I've seen sooooo many different peeps in this place that it would take several years to explain everyone. You have to check this place out...
Review Source:This is one of the better venues to spend your night on the town. Really, the only night to go here is Thursdays (80s night!!). The music on other nights is weird and not very engaging. As for being a gay bar, I don't think it's specifically for  gay people so much as all people are welcome here. Everyone seems really friendly, the dance floor is hoppin', and the staff is awesome.
Review Source:I bumped this place up a couple stars because I had a BLAST!
What changed that criteria:
1. The staff were super nice. I've taken a recent vow in alcoholic celibacy-so I settled with having a Red Bull and water. Each time, they were friendly and asked me if I wanted another Red Bull.
2. Having a posse is a MUST here. The music was better too, but still a bit odd so it helps to have a group who will make the most of the music with you and dance anyways!
3. Game of pool with intoxicated friends--try this.
The decor is still a hot mess and so is the clientele is a hot tranny mess, but it can be a good thing or a bad thing or both at the same time! Either way, follow my criteria and go. Try a weekend evening over a week night too. Also the cover was $2. Fabulous.
I'm straight and my straight friend and I went there back in 2002. We didn't figure out it was gay bar until 8 drinks in. Â We were wondering why no women would dance with us. I remember sayng to my buddy, "Wow, people are really nice here. There aren't any asshole meatheads." Â Once we realized it was a gay bar, we still stayed because the music was ok and some dude kept buying us drinks.
I was dancing so hard I accidently slammed my nose against the wall and broke it. Lots of blood.
I guess if I was gay, I wouldn't like Rumors so much because it's pretty much a straight bar with fat chicks. Well, what do I know? I always thought all gay bars were like the Blue Oyster in Police Academy.
Anyway, I would probably go back.
On any given night i have a better mix on my iPod than has ever hit the speakers in this "venue". The general patrons are over weight county girls  drinking through penis straws for their bachelerette  parties or Bros with popped collars and puka necklaces. This is the most unfortunate drinking establishment i have had the misfortune of frequenting numerous times a week. Which brings me to my point Rumors Cabaret you will always be in business as long as no bar comes along with a slight possibility of ending my boozing with butt sex.
Review Source:if this is a gay bar. I am a giant heterosexual....(hold on looking for my cell in my man bag.) Rumors is a mess---so don't go expecting anything else....It is not cute, the music is so crazy bad it's almost good, and the clientele is a mixed bag of gross, scary, friendly and loud females. Rumors somehow has a GREAT staff. I mean...transport this staff to a cute venue with decent music and ambiance and you have a great bar. The drinks are amazing and very strong. I wish that rumors would stop saying they are a gay bar and start saying they are a fire hazard. This place is not cute....so get wasted, then go...it will ease you into the pain.
Review Source:Coming from the LA/Hollywood area and experienced frequent trips to the Vegas, I'm always interested in checking out the night life wherever I go. Â
Being on a couple of hip hop dance teams, I always appreciate a place to just feel comfortable dancing. Â This place was the best from my almost two years of experience of living in B'Ham. Â I can dance with someone and not have to resort to grinding. Â The music for me is a hit or miss sometimes with my own tastes, but I still have fun just jamming out.
The drinks can kick for a good price. Â I don't think I can give any club or bar in B'ham a full 5-star rating, but that does say something when I do give it at least 4!
Wow I can't believe no one else has reviewed Rumors! I loved this place when I lived in Bham. Â It welcomes all kinds and it has both a great bar and a dance floor. Â They even have airhockey and pool tables. Â Plus they have cute bartenders, who mix strong drinks and shots! Â
I have some stories to tell about this place! Man!
This place always makes me laugh when i walk in the door. Having lived in San Francisco for the last 5 years this place is such a joke as a gay bars go. But you have give them credit. They try, and for a gay bar in a town like Bellingham they're going all right.
One star off because last time i was there they had a cover charge!!! WTF?? Are you kidding me? Please. Â But they have Strong drinks and that's good. and cheep... I think it was $5.00 for a pint of Gin and Tonic. One was all I needed, Â but i had two because I just can't say no to cheap drinks.
