I love Runza restaurants. Â The Holdrege chapter of Runza (like other fast food establishments in the town) are a far cry from the rest of the chains in more populated communities. Â What I mean by that is a Runza in Lincoln or Omaha is going to put out a far better product than the one in Holdrege. Â
This place does pass as a Runza though just barely, they constantly get orders messed up, and every once in awhile, you'll get a chicken sandwich that tastes like it was marinated in turpentine. Â
The only reason this place is still in business is because the people of Holdrege have become accustomed to sub-par fast food establishments.
Runza is a Nebraska institution. If you ever find yourself in Nebraska, the bright side of things might be that this is the only place you will find Runza's.
Although I didn't have a runza here (best way to describe it is an empanada of sorts), I did have a runza burger and it was pretty damn good. My husband and I visited his college in Hastings the night before and were feeling mighty hungover--oh, how we miss our youth. Runza did the trick. It was just enought grease to sop up the transgressions of the evening before. Thanks, Runza's.
