This is a wonderful place to feed and drink. Â My favorite summer time drink is the Blonde with a twist of lemon. Â Super refreshing... Â I enjoy the selection on the menu, because there are healthy choices. Â No just your standard pub grub... Â My favorite is the salmon Caesar salad. Â The two piece is a BIG serving. Â There is always a nice selection of specials. Â I eat here for lunch on Friday. Â It is super clean. Â I like that you can see the kitchen and know the health standards are high.
Review Source:The staff is kind, the staff is groovy. I heart the IPA, for an IPA its not biter at all. Very smooth. The food is good, a bit on the greasy side but in this case it really helps to balance out the beer. They have most of the beers in 22oz bottles to go. I'm not from the area but I can tell that this is the small town spot I would be if I were local. That gives it a nice feel. I would definitely go back when I pass thru.
Review Source:Love this place! Great brews, good pub food and its a great addition to the town of Cloverdale. Would give it 5 stars if there wing size was bigger. Have had their wings maybe 1-2 times over the last few years and they've always been really good. This last time though they were pretty small and not very meaty. They gave you a couple of extra, presumably to compensate for the small size, but I would prefer less larger wings. They're still great in my book, and their breakfast of huevos rancheros is the best in town.
Review Source:Great staff, fun atmosphere. Â The house beers are uniformily tasty and well made. Â Happy hour is one of the best in the county, but dining during "regular hours" can sometimes be frustrating - the kitchen tends to get a bit backed up and the wait can be long. Â As long as you remember this is a down to earth locals hang, and that you might just have to have that "one more beer" while waiting for your grub, you'll have a splendid time.
Review Source:Stopped here after a long road trip from Seattle, WA.
It was Memorial Day is this was one of the few places actually open. Although the place was practically empty due to the holiday I could see how this would be a popular place to drink/eat any other day of the week.
I cannot remember specifically what I had but I believe it was a sandwich of some sort and I remember it being really tasty. I also split a plate of nachos with my boyfriend and they were heavenly.
I don't make it Cloverdale very often but next time I am in there, I will definitely stop by for beer and some food.
Love, love, love this place. The perfect place for a dad who loves beer and has kids. The beers are amazing. Â Try the monster brown. They take such great care of kiddos. Fancy character straw cups and animal crackers. We came with our two little girls and they made sure they had all the little things to keep them happy. Â The staff is no nice and friendly. Also, their happy hour specials are a steal. So glad we found this place. Will definitely be back whenever we can.
Review Source:Floyd IPA, 'nuff said.
I live in Healdsburg and just wanted a change of pace. GREAT burgers + fries, onion rings. Service was prompt and polite and the place was clean. If you're a local, definitely check this place out and support your local brew pub. I'm very happy that I can find their beers in 22 oz bottles at my local market.
We happened in on this place because our car was broken down in Cloverdale. Â We ended up killing some time here tasting their great brews. Â Completely inspired we ordered 5 delicious kegs at a great price for our wedding weekend.
Got great feedback from our guests. Â Got the Caroline's Blond, the Floyd IPA, the Kong Brown Ale and the Cloverdale Ale. Â Everyone liked a different variety, but all thirsts were happily quenched.
Support local, buy your kegs here.
We stopped in for the beer and for the big screen television to watch the basketball playoff game. Â It was excellent. Â Appetizers made up the entire meal. Â Small plates of food spread out over the course of the game and the beer was the best. Â Granted there is little else to do in Cloverdale but it is near enough to Geyserville to make it a nice change during wine tasting. Â I heard that they are adding more live music which is a plus. Â There is a separate room for the music so even with a band the main room should stay pretty quite.
Review Source:Cool little Brewpub we decided to hit up on our way out of town. It's Sunday morning and we've now been here a couple of hours, if that tells you anything about how comfortable and friendly this place is. Can't really comment on the food as all we had was the calamari (which is quite good with the supplied soy sauce). I had the Floyd IPA and was very, very happy with that. The wife had the mighty shillelagh and also was very happy. We'll be back next time we are in town for sure.
Review Source:This place has great beers and awesome pub food! Â We came in expecting nothing but left with a few pints of great beer and awesome burger food. The bartender Ruth was super cool and accommodating to try their local beer. We also got a nice landscape of where to go in town after they closed. Great place to grab a few pints!
Review Source:Stopped here after seeing their freeway sign and, despite lukewarm reviews on Yelp, thought we'd give it a try anyhow. I'm glad I did.
After a very long day of shopping we chose a western turkey breast and cheese tortellini for dinner. I liked the cheese tortellini but it was cheese tortellini, although there were nice pieces of tomato in the sauce and it was good.
The western chicken breast was incredible. It was one of those things you see from across the room and are amazed by before it hits the table. The thing was at least 8" high and was just terrific - that's what I'll get next time.
I'll also wash it down with their hefeweizen, one of the better ones I've had. I ordered the blonde beer and it was good, but the hef was outstanding.
I'll definitely go back - service was good, food was good, prices a bit high but okay.
What a surprise! Last week I drove my forty five minutes north to realize that they are closed on Mondays and made my way to Russian River. This week I called ahead just to double check and yes they were open til 9pm. For a town that doesn't have a whole lot going on. Ruth McGowan's felt like the place to be. We ordered their sampler: 7 beers for $5. We tasted their:
Caroline's Blonde, Cloud 9 Hefeweizen, Cloverdale Ale, Floyd India Pale Ale, Monster Brown Ale, Oatmeal Stout, and McGowan's Dry Irish Stout. Guest beer was Moylan's Kilt Lifter.
I was impressed by their Hefeweizen, which I usually don't lean towards. I also really like their Floyd IPA because it wasn't aggressively hoppy, but very refreshing with floral notes.
The calamari was pretty good and the mac and cheese was so creamy and wonderful. I was really impressed with the service though. I don't expected much from brewpubs, but this was really stood out. I believe her name was Jessica and she was so attentive and friendly. Cheers! Will defiantly be back even if its a drive.
PS: They have bloody marys alone or with your favorite beer!
We stopped here for dinner on our way to the Boonville Beer festival and wow did we get some looks when we came in! Â I mean, who do these Cloverdale locals think they are??? Â Even our waitress was a bit rude! Â The food was just ok and the beers on tap were, well, the only good thing going for this place. Â Wish we would have seen the shuffle board before we waited 45 minutes for our food.
Review Source:Some friends of mine live in Cloverdale and are constantly lamenting the fact that I've never come to visit them. So last night, a few of us hopped in a car and made the trek up to their place.
"This drive isn't SO bad," I thought to myself, as we drove north on 101, somewhere just outside of Healdsburg.
Then I saw the sign on the side of the freeway.
It read:
Cloverdale 15 miles
When I arrived at my friends' home, I was greeted with surprise that I had finally come to visit. "There's a reason I don't make this drive," I told them. Living in Cloverdale is worse than living in the cuts. In fact, they might as well be living in Oregon, as far as I'm concerned.
But long trip aside, we decided to make the most of my presence in town, so our group of five made its way downtown, and ended up here, at Ruth McGowans.
Now, I didn't have any food, aside from the fries, but let me tell you, those fries were good and the fry dipping sauce (some ketchup brown sugar onion hybrid of awesome) was so addicting.
And onto the beers! Each of us ordered a different one so we could pass them around and test all of them. The result? The five house beers offered were all quite tasty, and even the IPA was kind of good (normally IPAs are much too hoppy for me). The Oatmeal Stout was savory without being molasses-y bitter at the end, and the Monster Brown was pretty fantastic.
The service was satisfactory, and the place itself was kind of dead (on a Saturday night) but I didn't mind terribly. What is fantastic about this place is the extra room furnished with three pool tables and SHUFFLEBOARD! So awesome. Suffice to say, we were entertained and shut the place down (at the early closing time of 10pm!) with style.
Now, this place isn't exactly something to write home about, but it gets four stars because I know that if I lived in Cloverdale, I would (realistically) be here most every night.
My wife and I came here to escape our god-awful motel room a couple blocks away. Â We only came for drinks, and I found the beers to be pretty good. Â I've been to a lot of brewpubs, and I find myself being less and less impressed by the house beers that are served at most places. Â However, the Monster Brown Ale was malty, nutty, and kind of strong. Â Nothing to schedule a stop in Cloverdale for, but I enjoyed it.
Review Source:The IPA is decent but I haven't had a chance to drink anything else or to try the food. This is mainly because the place seems to closed by 9pm. I understand that Cloverdale is a small town... but 9 o'clock?
I think this is a place you definitely want to check out if you're in Cloverdale but it's not worth a drive. Perhaps I'll be passing through sometime again when they are open and I'll be able to say more.
Small town, neighborhood brewpub where tye dyed shirts will out number blazers any day of the week. Â No corporate feel, no slick marketing and you know what? Â It's all good. Â For my first time there, I felt it could of been a local watering hole for myself, if I were a local, that is. Â
Beers definitely had that homebrew taste to it, most being full and burly. Â The Blonde Ale was okay but their Brown Ale had toasty flavors with a warm kick. Â Something I'd like to sip on during chillier months. Â
They had these fried jalapenos which were sliced rings of fresh jalapenos lightly breaded and fried. Â Very simple but quite fiery and made my beer go a lot quicker. Â Their wings are tooted to be "East Coast" style and if that is the case, I'm in no hurry to go to Buffalo, NY. Â Just basic Frank's Red Hot Sauce but with this annoying fake butter flavor. Â Not for moi.
If ever in these parts of the woods again, I'd stop in to tip a few. Â Hopefully run into some live music as they advertised a regular line up of live acts. Â Beer and music, now that is for moi.
