  For Barrow, very good food. Only stopped in for breakfast, but the bacon, eggs and toast were quite nice for around $14 bucks. Friendly staff and clean place. Would go back again if I ever go back to Barrow.

  For restaurants in such a small town as Barrow, AK, I give value to customer service just as much as the food that is being served with them. With that in mind, Sam and Lee's tops the short list of restaurants in Barrow that I would recommend to anyone. Whether you come for breakfast, lunch, or dinner, Mr and Mrs Kim will most likely be there to greet you with a warm smile along with their staff. The usual favorite is Mongolian Beef but there is a variety of choices in their broad menu.

  I went to Sam & Lee's because I got in a snowball fight with a bunch of little kids, who then told me to go eat here for dinner (Barrow is rad).
  
  Pretty yummy, HUGE portions! Similar prices to everywhere else in town. I like the giant booths-- it's easy to fit a big group in.

  We ordered the Mongolian beef, sesame chicken, shrimp with hot sauce, Kung pao chicken, and spicy duck.
  
  They were all really good!! Mongolian beef, spicy duck, and sesame chicken were my favorite. Shrimp was great too!

  Our tour group was taken here for lunch.  The food is average; but, it tastes OK and, if you do the buffet, then, you can pig out.  The buffet not only offered several Chinese dishes, but, it offered pizza too.  Go figure.   There are a lot of locals eating here and that includes the medical staff from the local hospital.  We took that as a good sign.  You really don't have much choice in Barrow.  My sense is this is as good as it gets.

  The cuisine at S&L's is on par with most anything Barrow has to offer. The Pan-Asian influence is obvious in this town and the quality of the food presented by this restaurant is above average in my opinion.
  
  I think my flight crew is addicted to this place because we pretty much have chosen S&L's for breakfast and dinner for the last week straight! For breakfast, their morning special (two eggs, bacon, pancakes) are wonderful for $13, and their special dinner of Hot & Sour soup, mongolian beef, sweet & sour pork, fried rice and egg-rolls is one of the better deals in down at $23.
  
  The true difference, however, is the waitstaff. It's a family run business with Mr. and Mrs. Kim doing everything they can to go out of their way for any special requests. These people work very hard and want to exceed your expectations.
  
  Special Consideration: When all is said and done with the meal, take your time with it and simply pay at the register downstairs. Also, if you dine upstairs be sure to give the goldfish tank a sprinkle or two or flakes - they're starving!

  Sam and Lee's is a popular place and the owner's are very friendly and warm. Their breakfasts are typical American breakfasts with great hash browns and eggs. Good coffee too. The one buffet in the state I can vouch for is their lunch buffet that is about $13. It will have their pizza on it (which is top notch with a great crust) along with all the traditional Chinese things, as well as shrimp usually served in a nice , garlic cream sauce, fried dumplings and good egg rolls. They have steamed rice and fried rice, soup and....sushi!!! If you go late the owner will insist you take a "to go box" and help her clear off the leftovers! I love this place. Oh!! Once I ordered the appetizer sampler and it was served on this 3-tiered set of elegant plates and there were TONS of different kinds of foods on it. Another time, I made caribou burgers for a party and couldn't find any buns in any of the grocery stores around town so I came here with a $10 bill and asked Mrs. Kim if I could buy some buns. She laughed and gave me a package and just told me to replace them when the AC (grocery store) got some more in!! Is the place clean ? No. The bathrooms are clean though. And the place, like a lot of places in the Arctic, can get ungodly hot in the winter time with the furnace blasting. But you can't get a bad meal here. They always seem to surprise you!
