We were driving through Gallup New Years day looking to eat and saw a bunch of cars outside.  I was with our daughters, and not wanting a smoky bar I was going to check it out when Sammy saw us outside and assured us it was a family friendly place.  You have got to check this place out!  They have a coffee bar with Starbucks.  A full bar as well and a separate dining area in the hall of champions.  As others have said, if you are any sort of sports fan, leave some time to peruse the sports memorabilia collection. Sammy personally showed us the Packer  memorabilia, including an original program from the Ice Bowl.  However, other teams are very well represented, including the Steelers, Cowboys, as well as Basketball, Hockey, etc.   Did I forget to mention the food was great, and we saw from the wall posters they have live music on many evenings.  Way beyond our expectations as far as looking for lunch in Gallup!

We pulled into Gallup last Saturday night while driving across New Mexico to watch the second half of a bowl game we were listening to on radio.  We fully expected a smokey bar with a half dozen people and a couple of 20 year old TVs in the corner.  Boy - were we wrong!

When we walked through the front door, the biggest problem we had was getting a seat.  This place is HUGE with lots of different rooms - and it was totally packed!  There was a blues band playing in one of the rooms next to a bar and we come to find out it's Bo Diddley's son singing.  Where the heck are we???

We finally found a table and asked the bartender to change one of the many large flat-screen TVs to the game we wanted to watch.  No problem.... the owner, Sammy, came over and quickly accommodated.

Bottom line - very good food and a great selection of draft beer.  BUT - make SURE you allocate enough time to walk through what is a veritable museum of sports, with a lot of music as well.  I have never seen a better collection of memorabilia anywhere.  This deserves to be in the heart of any major metropolitan city, and yet it's in Gallup.  Sammy's a first class guy who will take care of you.  He even took the time to introduce us to his wonderful family.  He loves music, sports and life - and clearly he loves what he does... and it shows in the details.

once you walk in the doors the sports memorabilla hits you in the face!  there is alot to see and wonder.  i like all the sports stuff on the walls.

the food was average to below average.  we ordered some wings, mushroom swiss burger and a chicken sandwhich.  all too greasy but i'm willing to try the food again.

    the service was great.

if you like tv's and ignoring your company while eating or drinking...this is the place.

Poor service, poor food. That's all you need to know about Sammy C's.

Nice independently-owned pub in downtown Gallup.  Made it here on a Sunday night for a blind date (Eeeee, that went alright.  Talked for a few hours, but that's about the extent of our connection.).  The joint was surprisingly hopping with Natives (mostly Navajo, I reckon, since Gallup is right next to the Navajo Rez), and I think that is the coolest thing I like about the joint---it's a Native hangout.  Very cool.

The staff here were super nice.  They checked up on us several times, and made sure we were doing good.  We were here late, so we went with just an appetizer (quesadilla) and water.  The quesadilla was pretty tasty.

As the night came to a close, we were greeted by Mr. Sammy C. himself.  He was very nice and wished us well as we were off.

All in all a very cool joint!

Sammy C's is probably the best sport's bar in Gallup,  but then again there aren't many.  First off the place inside looks great.  It would take a few minutes to check out all the memorabilia.  I went there, because I heard they had the patent on Pedro's Nightmare Steak which is a 8 oz steak with green chili and cheese on it.  I was suprisingly good.  The Chili was spicier than expected which is always a great suprise.  The rice and beans weren't too great.  What ruined the visit for me a bit was that the beer on tap was warm.  And I have heard that from a few people.  This place is great to watch some games and have some drinks.  It would be better if the beer was a bit colder.

I'm visiting Gallup from out-of-town and based on my experiences in ABQ I had very low expectations for any sports bar. From the front this place kinda looked like a dive but based on good yelp reviews I decided to try it out and I'm SO glad I did! Friendly bartender, a great mix of beers on draft, and lots of large flat screens to keep us entertained. Not to mention the tons of sports and music memorabilia scattered around - quite the impressive collection! The whole place is about five times bigger than it appears out front, and the menu is diverse and large. Now that I know this place is here I'll definitely be back for all my sport-cheering needs!

Mixed quality of food varying from average to above average.  Nothing was bad but some of the food was just ok.  Friendly service and a very cool atmosphere.  This is a great place to kill some time if you are stuck in Gallup.

This review is as good as it gets because of the total package.  If sports or music memorabilia delight you, this is a place to stop, gawk and enjoy.  Sammy Chioda spent 41 years in radio, collecting artifacts and memorabilia from entertaiment pros and sports figures of every kind, baseball to soccer.    Three years ago, he and his wife Marie unpacked their carefully catalogued collection and share it with the customers stopping by for a meal, drink, game of pool, game on screen, karaoke, or some dancing.

Nine of us tried Sammy C's.  Everyone rated the food on the menu of burgers, sandwiches, and mexican between three and four stars, mostly four.  It is good food.  Sweet potato fries, one of my favorites are served.

Sammy visits all tables, making sure his guests are happy.  If you're passing through Gallup and like the sports and sports bar scene, stop by.  Tell Sammy I said hello.

The food quality was mixed.  They have an extensive menu and bar drink list, but our party of 6 found the results mixed.  I had the Southwestern burger with the green chile.  Overall it was very flavorful.  However the other dishes at our table included a taco salad and the chicken fajitas which were lack-luster.

We stopped in Gallup on the way to Santa Fe and decided to try it based on the only other review at the time.  Overall it's pretty much what you would expect a sports bar to be.  However the first impression upon going in was that it's a lot larger on the inside than it appears to be from the outside.  Also the decor is very unique and nice.  The architecture inside is hard to describe, but utilizes original bricks made by a brick company from Gallup, and the place is a completely renovated JC Penny from over 50 years ago

The atmosphere was casual, and they had many separate rooms for kareoke, games, etc though they weren't in use while we were there.  Also, it's kid friendly for those of you with young children.  I would go back, but recommend asking the server for recs on the menu items.

Located in downtown Gallup on Coal avenue is arguably the best sports bar in town.  If you are looking for something chainy and a very limited selection of beer then Applebees might be more to your liking.  If you are looking for a little local color, with a broader selection of beer then you should definitely give Sammy C's a try.  They have plenty of wide screen tv's situated throughout the bar and restaurant.  The staff is friendly and service is good for the most part, as it deteriorates when things get busy on a Friday night, but then again isn't that how most places are?  They have drink specials, a full bar(One of the few places in town that carries Belvadere.) and a good selection of beer.(Alas no Mirror Pond)  As for the restaurant,  the food is about what you would expect for a bar and grill,  above average and I usually just stick to the appetizers if I am hungry.  On the downside they close early, 10pm on weekdays and 11pm on weekends.   They also have Karaoke some nights and live music on Friday nights.
