If you have kids then this is the best place to eat out on Marco Island. Â Full arcade room with grabber game, pool tables, and lots of other arcade type games. Â Now the part some people seem surprised by..... Its a bar and restaurant. Â Yes a bar with kids in it...... its ok though. Â Locals are there at the bar and tables are set all around the bar area. Â More tables loaded with family's are all around. Â
My kids are 7 and 10 and will stay here for hours while we enjoy dinner and drinks and then play a family game of billiards (pool). Â they have a jukebox as well to keep the music we like playing for a few extra bucks. Â Â
the food is mostly bar grub, but the Grouper sandwich is the specialty and worth it totally to get just that! Â Perfect grouper sandwich not to fried or breaded but its huge and delicious and fresh! Â Beers are cheap and flow readily, nice tap selection as well of craft brews. Â We were in marco for one week and came here 2 times to watch the Blackhawks win the playoffs!
Go for the $1 mini BBQ sandwichs and crispy wings that are 65 cents each! Since we are out of towners, it felt a bit awkward when we walked in and everyone looked at us but service was fantastic. We would definitely come back again! Great food and drink deals for happy hour; it goes 3-6.
Review Source:As soon as we walked in, saw the pool tables, video games, pinball machines, big open bar, electronic juke box, the t-shirts worn by the staff, and then, of course, the menu, we knew before we even ordered that we were coming back before we ended our vaca! Â
I had the Fingers & Toes (Fish & Chips) and it was wonderful. Â Same goes for the Cole Slaw that came with it. Â I also had the Cream Cheese Jalepeno Poppers (cream cheese poppers are hard to find - restaurants always put cheddar/nacho cheese in them). Â They were good, too. Â As was the homemade blue cheese or whatever it was. Â I'll just call it "love in a ramekin." Â
Want to try their award-winning wings this week before we leave. Â Bottom line - GO HERE - but good luck finding it. Â Better use your Yelp App or GPS on your phone. Â It's definitely off the beaten path and I think that's how the locals like it!
UPDATE:
Okay, came back and ordered take-out to head back to our condo and put our 3-yr old to bed. Â The wings are as advertised. Â Coming from a wing connoisseur, definitely "award winning" as stated on the menu. Â Try 'em!
Great dive bar with cold beer, great fish, and fun atmosphere. Â Wait staff is energetic, fun and friendly. If you are looking for an authentic local bar with good bar food, this is the place. Â Get your fish cooked any way you like as a platter, sandwich or on top of a salad.
Highly recommended.
My favorite bar, ever! When I'm up here in the cold, I WISH I was going to Sand Bar on a Saturday night. Every time we visit Marco, we cannot wait to go to Sand Bar. The atmosphere is so much fun, everyone is happy to be there, and they have an electronic juke box, games, and the BEST food at a bar I have ever tasted, for a very very good price! It's easy to walk to if you don't want to drive, and just a great place to relax, and  catch up with our Florida friends!
Review Source:We have been going to the Sand Bar for over 10 years during semi-annual vacations. While it basically provides "bar food", we have always enjoyed ourselves. We attempted to eat there Friday, November 10th at approximately 6:30 pm. The place was extremely crowded with no available seating. Â We were told there was no hostess and that the honor system existed. During our wait of approximately 30 minutes, many would-be patrons came and left, including some who had preceded us. We ultimately became the next to be seated, when 2 seats at the bar became available. We allowed two customers, who came in after us to take the seats, in as much as we saw a table opening. After seating ourselves at the table, a waiter that we believe to be named Johnny, started wiping down the table and told us he had promised the table to three other patrons. When we conveyed the absence of a host/hostess and the instructions we had been given about first come first serve, he rudely responded, "well you must be very disappointed". When we were told to leave the table, he said he would get chairs for a two-top located at the rear of the restaurant. As we were awaiting the chairs, we saw a highly intoxicated "local", that had come in 20-25 minutes after us being led to the table. The "local" upon entering the restaurant had told us "it's too crowded, you should leave". When we approached Johnny about the situation, he smirked and ignored us. Based upon this experience, it is highly unlikely that we will ever return.
Review Source:While in Marco for a wedding/vacation, we wanted to catch a game, so we ventured to the nearest sports bar. And we liked it! The Sand Bar has daily specials (including a weekly beer pong tournament) and menu specials.
There are lots of TVs, parking is easy, and the people are all friendly.
One of our must visit spots on Marco Island. Â
Be warned - it's a bit hard to find! The first year we came down to visit we tried to find it - but were so frustrated- we just gave up. Â
If you are heading north on Bald Eagle, turn RIGHT once you pass the boat shop - then you'll see it at the end of a large weird parking lot.
This is a great place to go after a day in the boat or at the beach. Â Flip flops, bathing suits and baseball hats are the perfect attire.
Food is good, drinks are cheap and there are a ton of games and activities for kids as well - a free wii, pool, video games and more.
The best part - happy hour!
You can get mini tacos for .25 each. Â They are SOOOO GOOD. Â There are really no words.
Mini-sloppy joe, mini hot dogs and more. Â I love a place that sells mini food!
This is a place where you won't find a lot of tourists - it's mostly locals; boat captains, deck hands, etc. and this is where they come after work.
They also have NTN trivia, video poker and beer pong for those nights when you want to pretend you are in college again.
You should also know - if you are a pickle fan, they have jars of pickles at the tables.
If you are not a fan, like me, you have been warned :)
We were desperate to find a place that didn't reek of tourists ... Stumbled on this place ...
This is the Florida that I remember growing up ...interesting people, great food, fair prices - we had Cobb salad and catch of the day sandwich - both delicious and huge portions. Â Very good peel'n'eat garlic shrimp ...likely even sourced from Gulf! Â Beer was cold and staff friendly and attentive.
If I was in Marco Island area for a week I would end up eating here a couple of times!
Went for dinner 4/17/12. Â Service was excellent ordered appetizers chili and potato skins stuffed, Â Chili was very good plenty of beef and flavor. Â Skins were kind of soft and mushy. Â Main coures clams and scallops. Â Food came rather quick we were still eating appitizers. Â Clams were strips and decent. Â Scallops were fried to almost marble consistency hard as a rock. Â Beer was cold. Â Will not go again there are better restaurant and bars that serve good food.
Review Source:When I hear the words "happy hour" I always think of Sand Bar. My only gripe about this place is that it's not in Michigan where a I live and the service is sometimes not very great. It feels like the kind of place locals go to a lot so the staff can be a little intolerant towards out-of-towners sometimes. For instance, a friend of mine waited at least 10 minutes after ordering drinks for her coke while the rest of us got our beer almost immediately. She even reminded the guy a couple times then we watched him go lean on the bar and chat with a guy for a few minutes. He then returned and asked if there was anything we needed. She said again, "yeah, I'd like a coke." He said, "Coming right up," as if it was the first time she ordered it.
However, the mini burgers, hot dogs, tacos, pulled pork sandwiches and raw oysters we ordered were very good. I believe all of the above items except for the tacos are $1 each during happy hour. The tacos come in increments of 5 and are 20 or 25 cents each. Add pitchers of beer for $5.50 each and our party of 5 adults and 2 kids was stuffed for $70 plus tip.
I know from past experience that their fried seafood is also very good. I've had the grouper and clam strips and was happy with both.
This place is great to go to if you want a break from the over priced places with the great ocean views, or to watch a game and play trivia on their many big screen tv's. Also a great place for kids with the mini food items and several arcade games.
I've known the Sand Bar for 10 years now and I've never left hungry or disappointed.
Friendly, delicious, affordable! Found this place with 'around me' iphone app. Â Sat at bar, spotted the help urself pickle jar and instantly fell in love. Had catch of the day (basa) blackened- filet was huge And tasty. Happy hour specials are shazam! From 3-6 and again 10- close. Pool table and beer pong on saturdays? Say no more, sand bar. You had me at hello.
Review Source:Pros: very friendly staff, generous portions, inexpensive compared to other places on Marco, variety of booze
Cons: food stinks. Sorry. Everything is over fried to the point of being bitter. The scallops and clams are terrible breaded and fried. As a bar, this place could be fun. As a place to eat, don't even think of going. There are far better restaurants on Marco.
Loved it.. was in an industrial park, or so it seemed..lol
The fried food was good, the beer was cold, the crowd was a mixture of everything, harley riding wanna be's to a family gathering from grandkids to parents and grandparents. The fish platter looked amazing . We had apps and were happy with it all. Wish it was on the water and not in the back somewhere.
Had our farewell to Marco lunch here. Â BJ wanted to go here because it's a sports bar. Â I wanted to go here because I was hungry! Â It's basically located in a bit of a small warehouse type area, probably a hotspot for harding folks. Â The walls are littered with all types of sports memoribilia from all types of teams. Â And there are the usual array of TV scattered about. Â I was surprised at the number of people glued to the TV's watching college sports. Â Cool.
Service was very warm and friendly. Â BJ got a meatload burger. Â Yum. Â I ordered fish and chips, affectionately called "fingers and toes" at Sand Bar. Â I am sure that I am not the only customer to laugh again and again when I think of the name of my meal! Â Portions were huge and the food was good. Â An all around fun place to eat!`
Absolutely the funnest place to meet the real people of Fl. Football players dropping in, boat captains, regulars and irregulars add to this motley crew. Bartenders are easy going and informative just ask.
Raw oysters are always my favorite jumbo choice sized with deep cups for great tasting oysters and juice. I'm drooling again for pickles and oysters. Â Video arcade games pinball, darts and pool for kids.
We were told that this is where the service industry people went when they got off of work. Â We could see why.
The food was quite good and overabundant. Â Great wings and the pork tenderloin sammich was probably my favorite meal down there. Â (Yes, I went all the way to FL for a pork sammich, but sometimes you gotta eat things that had four legs.)
The service was a bit spotty, but they were clearly overwhelmed so we gave them a pass.
Good place to watch a game and have a beer. Â Plus free pickles. Â
C'mon... Â jars of pickles on the tables... Â that's a gotsta go situation.
To preface this, I must say that Marco Island was our "detour vacation" as our original plans to the USVI were canceled due to the weather. We had 6 young adults (all in 20's) and so we absolutely had a difficult time finding any semblence of "night light" on Marco Island.
After the reviews on yelp, we finally made it to Sand bar; we were not dissapointed.
The food is so cheap (compared to NYC) esp for happy hour, that we pretty much ordered one of everything. Julie, our server, was fabulous, attentive and really sweet (plus she put up with us).
The beer couldnt be cheaper either, but this isnt all about the price. Every staff member here is friendly and really concerned about your budget, which is nice. They let us know when happy hour was coming to an end and when a new one was about to begin. The beer was cold and delicious. The games were fun and worked; the jukebox was played loud enough to hear the music but not too loud where you cant talk. Mega-touch at the bar. Loved it. Id go back in a heartbeat.
It's 5 o'clock somewhere. This bar is a hidden gem! Tee-Shirt, Short and Flip Flops and you will feel at home. Very good service with a smile and bartenders that will talk to you - unless they are very busy which is often the case. Our server checked on us often and made sure we were OK. They all split tips so it's a team tackle. The servers will swarm you and it's common for a different server to ask you if you need anything, which is very nice. They have a BIG variety of draft beer and a TUB of bottled beer on ice. All of this waiting for the 2 happy hours they have each day from 3 to 6pm and 10 to 12pm. During the happy hours they have domestic bottled beer for $2 bucks and $1 drafts. This combined with a great happy hour menu rocks Marco Island and places them as the best happy hour on the Island. Really, when can you get oyster .60 and claims .40 at happy hour. How can you pass up a choice of 3 cheeseburgers, pulled pork or sloppy joe sliders for $2.50. C'mon I eat and drank for hours and my bill was $20 bucks. The place is diverse in terms of customers. A mix of locals (fisherman, captains and regulars) combined with families and tourist that have found the place (which is not easy). It's placed behind the Walker Marina and you may miss it as you dream about the boat you can't afford. That's what happened to me anyway. Sunday's during football season requires you to arrive early to get a spot in front of the 30 or so flat screen TV's . This BAR is packed with the Steelers Nation faithful so be ready to endure the Here we go Steelers chants from the crowd. Enjoy the grouper sandwich, local claim it's the best on the Island. Oysters were OK but  not as good as the servers T-shirts with Shuck it, Suck it and Eat it Raw on the back. I'm a BIG fan and spend time at the Sand Bar when ever I get to Marco.
