    Ortega beef all the way.

-1 star due to limited seating and parking

    But everything else was great!

    Pros:
The people are friendly and efficient
    Food comes out hot!
Portions are hefty - enough to share, if you really like the person  : )
Pastrami Sandwhich was delicious, one of the best I've had!
There are plenty of other snacks you can purchase as it's also like a small convenience store with sodas/tea/energy drinks and plenty of chips to choose from

    What we ordered:
A pastrami sammie split for two : )

I wish there was a place closer to home that served their pastrami sandwhich!

I would give it a 6 if I could. First a little wine tasting and I purchase a bottle to drink while eating some of the best sandwiches made anywhere. Sitting outside on the picnic benches looking across the meadow up to Hearst Castle while eating our food and drinking a wonderful bottle of Hearst Ranch wine is one of the best things I get to do once a year. The burgers made with Hearst Ranch beef are to die for.

Long line. Got a turkey and ham club and the bf got a roast beef dip. Both were very delicious and worth the wait! I highly suggest this place when visiting the Hearst Castle!!

Huge servings, decent prices, bring cash (credit machine seems to be out a lot).  Great place to grab food for a picnic at the beach after Hearst Castle.  Highly recommend the burger.

This restaurant served me one of the largest and most delicious veggie burgers I have ever had.  Coming here to eat rather than eating at Hearst Castle was the best decision we could have made for lunch.  It's the only restaurant within a few miles of the castle so it gets a pretty serious lunch rush.  They were efficient none-the-less and we got spread our sandwiches over two meals!
    Would definitely recommend

Wow.  After three amazing tours at Hearst Castle, checked out Yelp and ended here.
    This place does NOT disappoint!

Had 1/3 pound burger with grilled onions, American cheese and top with a fried egg.  Enough for lunch AND dinner!   Turkey stack was delicious (needed a doggie 'box' for the 1/2 we didnt eat) and the French Dip was super generous in portions and tasty.

A few minute wait to order, but went outside, snagged a table for 5, and had a simply heavenly and VERY filling lunch.   Great selection of sodas, water and beer/wine.

This place is a MUST for any Hearst Castle Warrior.

There may be a wait as it's small... but WELL worth it!  Great burgers!  Will definitely be back!  You're our new guilty pleasure on Highway 1!

Great little stop that is perfect if you are traveling up the 1 or visiting Hearst Castle. Sandwiches are tasty and there is a nice porch to enjoy them on. My only advice is to split a sandwich with someone, as they are huge! the buns they use are the size of a salad plate and they Are piled high. When I visited on a Tuesday at noon, there was no wait to order and about a ten minute wait for the food.

Definitely worth waiting in the sometimes really long line! The sandwiches are huge and they use really fresh local ingredients! The Veggie sandwich is epic! If you are driving north, this is the last good affordable stop for lunch until you are well into Big Sur so don't miss it.

It's a good thing this is a great restaurant because it's the only one around...

Though, it's only a short ride into Cambria to find other places to eat.

We tried both the Beef sandwich with Au Jus and the Ortega, a hot beef sandwich with some kick from jalapenos and red onions.

Both were very tasty as the beef comes from the Hearst Ranch. You can't get more local than that.

Easiest 5 star review I've ever written! Best sandwiches ever!! After taking a trip to Hearst Castle, my partner and I were starving. With the help of Yelp, we decided to try this place and boy did it steer me to the direction of tastebud happy land!! They have a good assortment of drinks, extremely friendly staff, and pretty quick service (well the line wasn't that long). The burgers range ~$7-12 and the portions are out-of-the-world  more than I can handle! I tried the big sur veggie and my partner got the big melt? Super fresh, super yummy, and super satisfying! If we only had a place like this in the Bay Area!

They take visa, mc, discover, and cash.

This place has amazing food . We stopped here after we finished two tour at Hearst Castle. The place has outside and inside seating, we chose to sit outside because it was a nice day. I ordered the Big Sur Veggie Sandwich and my wife ordered the veggie burger. We sat outside and we received our food in about 10 minutes. My Veggie sandwich was outstanding it had 8 different vegetables on it along with a pickle and chips . So go hungry and be wild and order something you have not had you won't be disappointed.

The food is absolutely DELICIOUS! We waited almost an hour in line, but it was SO worth it! For the turkey stack, a burger with a bunch of add ons, a fosters beer, vanilla coke, and basket of fries we paid $34. It was a very delicious $34. We will definitely be making a trip to San Simeon again for some of that food!!
The sitting area on the patio is beautiful!

1st time there I declared: "This is the best Greek salad I have ever had!"

2nd time: "This is THE best black bean burger I have ever had!"

My husband both times:" The is the best pastrami sandwich I have ever had!"

I was skeptical at first, but the addition of the wine bar only makes it better.

I can guarantee you will not find a better sandwich for at least 100 miles in either direction of this place. Sebastian's is the place to eat if you are going to visit the Hearst Castle or if you are in the area at all.
I ordered the French Dip that was made with the famous Hearst beef and it did not disappoint at all.
The sandwiches are LARGE so make sure you don't over order, but if you do it makes for a nice afternoon snack. If you do plan a trip here be sure to give yourself plenty of time because this is not fast food it is good food. Everything here is FRESH and you can taste it. The staff is warm and friendly even if they are working no stop to get the food out as fast as they can.
if you do stop by tell the cashier (Abby) George from San Jose said hi and I am sure you will get an extra smile from her.

The absolute BEST French dip...ever!  Only issue...too big!   I had to put away some bread and eat just piles of the greatest Hearst beef dipped in (not too salty) au jus.   Potato salad was great.  The selection of sodas is fun and mind-boggling.   Sweet owners.  Worth a trip there at any time.  I hope they keep it small and bohemian and quirky.

We stopped at this restaurant/store/wine shop/post office after a day at Hearst's Castle.  (Tip:  Don't eat at Hearst Castle.  Major tourist trap.)  Truthfully, the biggest reason why we stopped was because I wanted a picture with my son who shares the same name with the store.

And boy, was I happy we did.  I ordered the French Dip that was made with the famous Hearst beef that our tour kept mentioning.  I scarfed that mo-fo sandwich.  It was AMAZING!  Highly recommend it.  I felt sorry for my husband who, for some crazy reason, thought it a good idea to order the buffalo chicken sandwich.  His wasn't bad.  He seemed to like it until he took a bite of my French Dip.  Oh well.  Learn how to order, mister.  :-)

The shop is really cute in a country general store sort of way.  While we waited for our order we looked around.  There are wines and other gourmet items in parts of the store and cute country candy and such by the cafe.  There's some nice outside patio seating as well as a few indoor tables.  It's a "Seat Yourself" situation.  You do have to wait a bit for your food which, if you're in a rush, can be a problem.  Everything is made to order and the kitchen seems small with only a couple of employees.  If you have time, relax and laze about.  The atmosphere is chill.  And the French Dip is worth waiting for.

Oh Mah Gawd!  The FRENCH DIP SANDWICH is out of this world!  I seriously think this is by far one of the BEST french dips I've had.  Flavor of the whole experience was right on.  Oh, and the bread, ohhh the bread, was so soft and tender on the inside, covered with a thin crackle crisp outside.  I can't eat another french dip anymore without comparing to this one, and nothing else suffices.

Ok, so other than food, I also have to mention that there is outdoor seating.  It's nice to sit outside on a sunny day and stare at the cows out on the field while eating your french dip.  : P

btw:  I hear the line can get pretty darn long.  I went close to the time they opened.  As I was waiting for my food, I did a little wine tasting in the back, all from hearst vineyards.  You just gotta time your arrival if you want to avoid lines.

I'll join the fan club!  I had an amazing burger - I could only eat half of it.  They advertised it as 1/3 pound but it seemed more like 3/1 pounds.  My friend had a roast beef sandwich which she also enjoyed.  We arrived early so had a nice table on the deck in the shade.  There is also a side yard with picnic tables.  On a hot day finding shade for dining there could be tough but you could always take your lunch down the road to the beach where I saw some tables.  If you come to Hearst Castle it is definitely worth the stop.

Really good food. My wife and I split the roast beef dip and turkey melt, both were outstanding. This place is really cool and I don't understand the people who rate it low cuz of the wait??? Good things come to those who wait and it's well worth the wait

My friend is a local to Cambria, so we ventured to Hearst Castle and then to Sebastian's for some grub before rolling out of town. The line was SUPER long, but that gave us time to grab a table (outside- beautiful day in October!) and to get the group their orders and situated.

Most of my friends got burgers, but I got the veggie and have to say it was one of the best (and I am definitely a veggie burger connoisseur!) I've ever had. I would definitley come back and I would definitely recommend it; don't come solo because then no one can grab you a table while you wait in line!

There was also wine, which I didn't try...

I have dreams about the sammiches here. Whether you're a vegetarian or a carnivore, you will not be disappointed with the bounty here. Piled high with fresh ingredients. Casual "mom & pop" atmosphere. It's like sex between bread. I can't think of a nicer day than getting full here than going to see the elephant seals, hearst castle, moonstone beach, and perhaps some wine tasting.

Good size burgers that come from the local grass fed Hearst cattles roaming the area so the patty is really fresh and juicy. For about $6, that's a good deal to get this kind of quality meat for a hamburger. And yes, just park somewhere on the gravel.

Crowded but fun. Picked up a grass fed eye steak for the wine we bough in Paso.

I over cooked the steak but knowing it was from Hearst' finest cattle made it delicious.

Sebastian's is always crowded and a great place to stop before or after the tour of the Castle.

It is amazing how they can fit a tasting room, a market, a general store and a fast food restaurant in 200 sq feet structure and still do a great job!

Lot's of happy people waiting in line for food and relaxing on the out door patio.

The line is ridiculously long and the wait is just absurd....they even have a sign that says they're sorry for the wait and they appreciate your business... That acknowledgement does not make me feel better..in fact it makes me angry because you would think that they would have figured out how to streamline this process... Is it their small kitchen? Is it the people? I don't know....

Aside from the slow service the people are extremely nice. Even with the long lines they serve with a smile on their face. It has a great local feel to it and the people in line are very friendly...surprising because all of them have had to wait as long as you

Was my burger worth the hour and a half wait? Not really....had I waited less than that....absolutely. The burger was juicy and they give you a lot of fresh veggies. It's rather large in size but comes with tortilla chips and a side of macaroni salad which I thought was tasty. I recommend adding a fried egg to the burger... Well actually I recommend adding a fried egg to a lot of things...rice, banh mi...you name it.

The food is definitely at least 4 stars...the wait is what makes me take one away.

Sebastian's store...lets get your act together

Was making my way to Hearst Castle for the very first time. I didn't realize food options was going to be so scarce.

I panicked and defaulted to Yelp. Luckily Sebastian's popped up with solid review.

We ordered sandwiches which turned out to be one of the best sandwiches I have ever had. EVER. It was insanely large and fresh. Turkey slices where thick and juicy. Bread was fresh as was all the veggies. My friend had an Italian Combo which I had a bit of, which was just as fantastic.

Definitely a must stop if you're ever in the area.

Great hamburger, good selection of beers. There's a wine tasting bar in the same building if you want to check that out, but a cold beer matches with a burger a little better.
Signs inside show that tour busses frequent the spot, so was lucky enough not to come during one of those times, but they also do phone orders, so you have that option.

Best burger I ever had and its huge!  Lines can get long since this is truly a family run shop.

    Prices are very reasonable too.

Location is a bit hidden but just follow your GPS and it will take you here!

This place is OMG delicious and the spot to eat at after your Hearst Castle visitation. Do NOT eat at the castle.

I ordered the Hearst Beef burger (medium rare) that came with chips and couldn't believe the enormous serving size. Talk about getting the biggest bang for your buck. The meat was tender/juicy and succulent. The long line is definitely worth the wait. I'm soo glad I've stumbled upon this place based off many of the reviews done by others. This place will not disappoint. =)

We stopped here during a trip up Highway 1 from Morro Bay to Monterrey.  I had never been, didn't know it existed, but my friend needed a bathroom!
So there we were...loading up on snacks that included baked/dried green beans...then we saw the sandwiches they were delivering to the shaded outdoor tables....huge, full of  great looking ingredients....we ordered one to split.

We were so glad we did!  It was awesome! Turkey, cheese, avocado, sprouts, tomato with spicy mayo, all on toasted (fantastic) bread!  Half was plenty for me, and it was so big I could barely get a full bite, even with my big mouth!

This is another California hidden gem.

PS: the kitchen can be seen right as you enter on the right, and it was absolutely spotless, even the floors, floor mats that the sandwich chefs were standing upon, appliances, etc.  They should be proud of that.

Had a great experience at the Sebastian Store. I had the double cheeseburger with bacon & avocado...Very good and could only finish half. The wife had the beef and blue cheese melt. She said it was fantastic.
Great spot for lunch on your trip up or down the coast. Oh yeah don't forget to do a tasting at the Winery next door. I promise you won't be disappointed...Cheers

We came to Sebastian's store after touring Hearst Castle.  The store is at the bottom of Hearst Castle so it is super close.

I am a fan of this place because of their huge burgers (they use grass fed burgers from Hearst Castle!)

The prices are fairly cheap, and the quality of the food is great.

When I was here, I sat in their patio and ate there.  There wasn't too long of a wait to order and get your food.  Maybe we were lucky.  You order you food ahead of time at the cashier.  Then they call out your name when the order is ready.

I got the chicken sandwich here and it was so big, I couldn't wrap my mouth around it.  There was one thick chicken breast patty, cheddar cheese, tomatoes, pickles, lettuce, great juicy strips of bacon, and some sauce.  I could only finish half.  Good, because I was able to enjoy this chicken burger twice!  Both burgers came with tortilla chips and cole slaw.  I loved the cole slaw that came with my burger.  Usually, I could care less for them but I liked the ones from here it may be because it was peppery.

I would come back here! It's a great place to grab lunch!

1.75 for a Cappuccino flavored It's It?  At a convenience store in the middle of nowhere???  Other ice creams were priced below other grocer stores also.  Did I mention they had Cappuccino flavor It's It???  This will be my regular pit stop from now on for every trip through the Big Sur area.

Friendly staff, they also had hot food available.  It's a part of the Hearst (Castle) estate, so that kinda tells you where it is.  If you've passed the long horns, you've gone too far!

Yes delicious!! But OMG!!  I highly recommend sharing a sandwich.  The burger is made of Hearst Castle ranch meat and is highly recommended... but the sandwiches are larger than any sandwich I've ever seen!  It could have feed a family of 4.  A burger and sandwich, 2 drinks = $23

I'd stop here every time, but from now on will share a sandwich/burger so we're not traveling for hours with leftovers.

This is a great spot for both locals and visitors - I make sure to come whenever I am in town visiting family. They have a ton of variety, and I have never ordered something that I have not been completely satisfied with. The ingredients and very fresh, and the portions are HUGE! If you order a sandwich, you may want to split it with someone if you cannot take your leftovers home. It does get pretty busy at lunchtime though, so make sure to give yourself plenty of time.

On my most recent visit, I cycled over from Cambria, which is really a great ride and a nice way to see the coast. It is a relatively flat 8-mile ride each way, and there is plenty of room on the side of the road, as well as many places to stop and take pictures. I highly recommend it to anyone who has access to a bike.
