Serenity Farm Bread

I happened to come across Serenity Farm Bread's review here on Yelp, just as I was about 15 minutes away from their second location. I was instantly intrigued, as I am a bread lover of all kinds!

Their additional location is in a charming yellow house, surrounded by trees and flowers. The employee who was working was very knowledgeable and friendly,  and told us a little history about the company & what they offer. As the former reviewer stated, all items are made out of sourdough. They not only had multiple types of bread, but also pastries and a small grocery selection. We ended up trying the cranberry pecan sourdough bread, which was good, but a tad pricey.

This is a lovely place.  (To be clear, it is not the original/main storefront of Serenity Farm Bread, which is located about .75 miles away in downtown Leslie on Main Street.)  First, the location is wonderful.  Sitting right on U.S. Highway 65, about .50 miles south of downtown Leslie, it is housed in a 100+ year old Sears kit home painted yellow and green, surrounded by graceful trees, with a clear stream running by at the side.

This location sells the same bread that the other location sells, but in addition it has the most marvelous pastries.  And I mean marvelous.  The pain au chocolat easily rivals any that I've had in Paris.  The cheese danish is perfection.  And the cinnamon nut rolls, well, don't get me started.  And (this will sound odd, but it really isn't) all of the pastries are made of sourdough, as are the loaves that made the original place famous.  Don't worry.  The pastries don't taste like sourdough.  Rather, that dough gives the pastries a hint of wonderful complexity that contrasts perfectly with the sweetness.  I am very glad I don't live nearby, or I would be rolling myself to the place every morning.

As already mentioned, this location also sells loaves of bread- the traditional sourdough, some filled with nuts and fruits- as well as focaccia topped with things such as olives, artichoke hearts, sun-dried tomatoes, and feta.  All delicious.  It also sells pottery made by local artisans, and non-perishable organic foodstuffs of many varieties.

The place also has a little lunchroon, which serves good meals of the same quality as the pastries.  Or simply order a cup of coffee to drink with your danish.

If you are ever driving on 65 through the town of Leslie, be sure to stop at this wonderful surprise of a place.
