This was my spot for years when they played Texas Hold em tournaments. and it was called Scorz. I came back to visit friends and family in San Angelo and stopped by my old stomping grounds and had to make a stop here. Its been at least 6 years since I had been and they added new tables and it was awesome now that they dont allow smoking anymore.
BUT.. that being said the bartender (female blonde) was outside for a good amount of time rather than serving drinks. Granted it was a Sunday but most of the tall tables were full. I give her credit though for refilling our drinks without asking as soon as she came back from her smoke out back looked like.
This is the kind of place that no matter how much it changes you'll still come back, especially with all the new TVs they added. :)
Shenanigans thrives in the niche of dive-sport-bars.
In a world where speakeasies thrive (well in the real world, not San Angelo) ande bars try to make themselves more and more exclusive. Shenanigans stands out, summarized in a word, unpretentious.
Aside from ridiculously cheap drinks, they allow you to bring your own food in, and even provide bar food for free on occasion.
I have no idea how this business model stands alone, but if you're saying I can bring my own wings, chips and anything else I can think of, hang out with friends and catch a game while enjoying cheap drinks, I'm not going to question you.
Just don't be expecting anything fancy. (It's located in a strip mall across from the HEB, making it just as hard to find as actual speakeasies)
We spent a weekend trekking around Texas for the fun of it, and ended up in San Angelo. Â After checking the web for happenin' haunts, we saw Shenanigans and knew that's where we were headed.
We were so obviously not regulars, but that made no difference to anybody. Â They were welcoming and friendly and after only a few minutes we felt like we'd been coming there for years!
The beer is cold and priced right, the ambiance is perfect for a sports bar/dive bar/hangout, and the people are right on!
We are planning another road trip specifically to go to Shenanigans - got a couple of friends that just arrived for tech school and they've already been briefed!!
PS - bonus was the "play with me" shirt I got for ten bucks! Â Now everyone in San Antonio knows about them, too!
